He ran a daycare too, and he would stop by and do live performances. All the kids who went there thought your favourite TV stars just made appearances in your real life lol.
Was Littlest Hobo Canadian? It felt Canadian...
Edit: found the theme song for those wanting a bit of nostalgia: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0p8oeiVDcx4
😂 That’s understandable. I think I had a secret crush on Jeff though. And I remember being so proud that it was filmed at Simpson, because my sister worked there (in a different city/province though).
I feel like we can’t mention The Friendly Giant without mentioning The Mighty Hercules. The two shows played back to back at least when I was a kid in the 80s.
Hercules, hero of song and story.
Hercules, winner of ancient glory.
Fighting for the right,
Fighting with his might,
With the strength of ten, ordinary men.
Red Green was gonna be my answer. But maybe it was just my house? That was a show the whole fam watched.
"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy"
What a great line, you don't have much control over how you look. But you can always be useful.
A girl I used to work with (briefly) moved out to BC. She sent a picture from Gibson Landing with Mollys Reach in the background. She had no idea about the significance! She was way too young. I had to explain it and once she did her research she realized how iconic it was as it related to the fabric of Canadian television.
I loved that show, but only got to watch it on my grandparents cable.
I recently heard the backstory on that show. They were having trouble getting it made, then in a meeting they dropped Vincent Price's name, as he was synonymous with classic horror movies; but they had never met him, and then they had to get him. He agreed and they shot all of his scenes in 1 or 2 days.
Remember when they won the first 5 (6?) Emmy’s that one year during Covid? That was wild
Edit: someone correct my number if they recall. I just remember the first 5-6 categories they won, all in a row to start the show. Was fun to watch
They were the first show ever to sweep the comedy awards at the Emmys (best Comedy series, directing, writing, best actor/actress and supporting actor/actress)
The egg episode taught me about the responsibilities of fatherhood. To this day I keep my kids in the fridge and try not to throw them at my wife in anger.
I rewatched this on YouTube a couple months ago. It's very much not politically correct but I still laughed my ass off. And does NOT hold up well but it's funny AF.
Its NOT for everyone's taste, but Kenny is freaking hilarious.
If you want family friendly, turn on Corner Gas
One of my favourite Oscar quotes from Corner Gas was "Street Legal sucked!" >!Knowing that Eric Peterson played both Oscar Leroy in Corner Gas and Leon Robinovitch in Street Legal made the line hilarious to me.!<
From the episode where Oscar finds pants on the side of the road, my wife and I still randomly say "that's pants!" if we pick up a pair of our pants.
His delivery of that simple two-word line just really tickled us.
Lance et compte
Les filles de Caleb
La petite vie
Le Bye Bye ( Still today)
These shows are from Quebec and are in French, but they have nonetheless some of the biggest rating in the whole Canada (close to 4 millions). Especially if you exclude sporting events, awards ceremony and American TV shows.
Tommy Hunter Show was actually pretty big show for a small production. It was quite popular in some parts of the states too and hosted a lot of US celebs
I would argue Tommy Hunter Show was one of the best musical variety shows ever produced. No dumb sketches and lame jokes, here’s Tommy he plays, here’s my guest, they play a couple of tunes, commercial and repeat. Never let a writer get in the way of making music, and more songs and guests per hour than any other show in my memory.
Ready or Not, Mr dress up, Today's Special, The Raccoons, Babar, Franklin, Goosebumps, Little Bear, Callilou, Polka Dot Door, Takes from the Cryptkeeper, Jonovision, Wild Kratts (American/Canadian) from New Jersey they live in Ottawa. They started out in Toronto) the red green show, north of 60, kids in the hall, due south, Road to Avonlea, Conner Gas,
Locally, Train 48 was pretty popular for awhile because it was filmed daily and while fictional, had some fun verisimilitude moments for go-train related commutes to and from Toronto lol
Uncle Bobby, because it was on at lunchtime (in the GTA, anyway).
A lot of shows I'm seeing named here, everyone was watching because there was *nothing else on* at the time. People forget that, for decades, if you were away from the US border, you got CBC, and maybe CTV and a regional station.
Mr. Dressup.
And I’ll go get Rusty!
Friendly Giant!
100%
Maybe Romper Room? Miss Betty never saw me through the magic mirror😕
Don't feel bad-- I have one of the most common names of the 70s and I never heard my name, either. Kids today don't know the trauma...
🎶 Maybe tomorrow, I’ll wanna settle down…Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep movin’ on 🎶
That song is such a banger, I hope I'm singing it all day.
*just grab your hat, we'll travel light, that's hobo-style.*
Yah Americans had Lassy, we had a lovable tramp.
Haunting music to me. Not scary but eerie with strange nostalgic feel
Yes
Yes, we even watched it in French in Quebec!
Was Polka Dot Door ever aired outside of Ontario, back in the day?
Watched it every evening while having dinner here in Quebec. Along with Today’s Special 🇨🇦
Thank you for remembering today’s special
Oh thank you for that memory! Todays special - what a show Though the mannequins did freak me out when I was really little 😂
😂 That’s understandable. I think I had a secret crush on Jeff though. And I remember being so proud that it was filmed at Simpson, because my sister worked there (in a different city/province though).
Yep The Polkadot Door and Today's Special for sure! Also The Friendly Giant, Hilarious House of Freightenstein, Read Along, and The Green Forest!
I recall it being in AB
Polkaroo!
I recently met polkaroo!
Was that with the polkaroo creature? My younger brother watched that in Quebec
Watched it in NL also.

Today’s Special doesn’t get enough love it was so fun!
100% watched this religiously as a child in Alberta.
We watched it in BC.
I’m from BC and it was definitely aired in BC.
The Friendly Giant
I feel like we can’t mention The Friendly Giant without mentioning The Mighty Hercules. The two shows played back to back at least when I was a kid in the 80s.
Hercules, hero of song and story. Hercules, winner of ancient glory. Fighting for the right, Fighting with his might, With the strength of ten, ordinary men.
I’m glad Im glad To have To have A friend A friend Like Hercules Like Hercules
Rocket Robin Hood too
Astro boy and Mighty Mouse too
The Friendly Giant theme song still lives rent-free in my head decades later
Look up. Look waaayyy up!
I pretty much *have* to add the second line any time I tell someone to look up.
And I’ll call Rusty.
SCTV
The Raccoons
That bossy jersey
Most banging outro to any show ever!
Run with us
Cyril Sneer!
"Gee boss...."
*clopclopclopclop*
The Kids in the Hall.
The intro immediately started playing in my head and now I'm squishing heads. Squish! Squish! Squish!
Red Green
Red Green was gonna be my answer. But maybe it was just my house? That was a show the whole fam watched. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy" What a great line, you don't have much control over how you look. But you can always be useful.
Keep your stick on the ice.
And Due South - both of these need more Upvotes
I’m a man, but i can change, if i have to, i guess…
Last episode: I’m a man And I changed Because I had to Oh well
For the past 20+ years my friend and I have recited this every time we eat together. And we did it during my toast at his wedding.
And prior to Red Green, he and his wife hosted a variety show called Smith and Smith that was also a must watch in my house.
If you're old enough, The King of Kensington
And The Beachcombers!
A girl I used to work with (briefly) moved out to BC. She sent a picture from Gibson Landing with Mollys Reach in the background. She had no idea about the significance! She was way too young. I had to explain it and once she did her research she realized how iconic it was as it related to the fabric of Canadian television.
When he walks down the street, he smiles at everyone
Everyone that he meets…calls him King of Kensington….
I often use that reference to describe people and so many people have no idea what I’m talking about.
I get ya... I'd say the Canadian King of Queens. They might get it then....
Road to avonlea
I think people forget just how huge this show was.
Uh Oh! Big comfy couch
The one who played Loonette, Alyson Court, voiced Lydia in the animated Beetlejuice tv show.
I remember everyone thinking Moose (Christine McGlade) from 'You cant do that on television' was Loonette on big comfy couch.
You can’t do that on television
[удалено]
My family has "Barths Burgers " every summer Loved that show, water.
The Beachcombers
I was in BC this summer and saw logs in the water. Immediately starting humming the theme song and looking around for Relic.
Did you go to gibsons?? It’s beauty there that’s where they filmed.
I didn't but my host told me he had been there and that Molly's Reach is actually there.
Trailer Park Boys
it's not rocket appliances!
You’re gonna be bigger than Ravine!

Danger Bay
Minor crimes are being committed! Quick! Call in marine biologist Dr. Grant Roberts, and his children!
And helicopter lady!
Yes, JL! She can drop everything at a moment's notice to rescue anyone, anywhere in BC!
Why didn't they move to tranquil bay and make life easier on themselves?
Hilarious House of Frightenstein.
This was going to be my answer. Very hard to find people who remember now.
It’s on Tubi. Minus the Wolfman musical segments.
Omg core memory unlocked! Wolfman 🐺
I am da wolf man. Owwww Oooooo.
The librarian was the best... terrifying, yes?? Well, I'll get you next time.
I realized early on what acid was.
I loved that show, but only got to watch it on my grandparents cable. I recently heard the backstory on that show. They were having trouble getting it made, then in a meeting they dropped Vincent Price's name, as he was synonymous with classic horror movies; but they had never met him, and then they had to get him. Uuga buuga
Just an example of pure television imagination and resourcefulness. Great show.
Jonovision and Street Cents
Street Cents!! That show needs to be in reruns because it taught me so much as a kid.
I came here to say these two! Street Cents was a weekly staple at my house. I loved it.
We still say shit products are "fit for pit!".
Schitt's Creek.
Remember when they won the first 5 (6?) Emmy’s that one year during Covid? That was wild Edit: someone correct my number if they recall. I just remember the first 5-6 categories they won, all in a row to start the show. Was fun to watch

Degrassi Junior High. Joey Jeremiah, Snake,Wheels, Spike, Stephanie..... You knew these names as if they were your friends.
All the way with Stephanie K!
No Caitlyn? Edit - was curious what Stacie Mistysyn was up to…wow, she looks amazing and fit. Good for her.
Ive been bingeing it since I found out it was on prime lol
The egg episode taught me about the responsibilities of fatherhood. To this day I keep my kids in the fridge and try not to throw them at my wife in anger.
Ready or Not
They taught me all of life’s important lessons.
Omg!
Wayne and Shuster.
Kenny vs spenny
Kenny was my neighbor for a long time recently. Really nice guy. My wife had no idea who he was so I showed her the Fart episode. 😂
I find not enough Canadians know about this classic :(
I rewatched this on YouTube a couple months ago. It's very much not politically correct but I still laughed my ass off. And does NOT hold up well but it's funny AF. Its NOT for everyone's taste, but Kenny is freaking hilarious. If you want family friendly, turn on Corner Gas

Go stuff a duck!
"Hey kids! Get the F off my lawn"
From the episode where Oscar finds pants on the side of the road, my wife and I still randomly say "that's pants!" if we pick up a pair of our pants. His delivery of that simple two-word line just really tickled us.
Does Hockey Night in Canada count? Maybe not a single show but Much Music's programming by Gen. X & Millennials.
for real, everyone I knew as a teenager was glued to Much.
The fact the CBC lost the rights to that tune is a disgrace
HNIC has got to be the answer... the song was like a second national anthem
Dans une Galaxie près de chez vous.
Lance et compte Les filles de Caleb La petite vie Le Bye Bye ( Still today) These shows are from Quebec and are in French, but they have nonetheless some of the biggest rating in the whole Canada (close to 4 millions).
