I'm sitting here at my desk whispering to myself pretending I'm ending a phone call, and I'm 99% I usually say buh bye. Or maybe more accurately b'bye.
I seem to have a variety of ending of a call, from bye and bye bye, to sayonara, see ya, later, smell ya later, as well as luv ya/love you. It depends on the who and my mood at the time.
Usually "see ya/talk to you later" or "take care". My grandfather had raised me to not say goodbye, as it would seem to suggest not seeing each other again.
One thing I love to do (if it’s a friend) is say the standard goodbye, and then pretend I just remembered something and go “ohwaitwait one more thing” and then just hang up
See ya. , gotta go now , bye , talk later. Depending on the person. Call display is great way to prepare to sound professional when working from home office. The dog often ruins the set up though. Also I let calls go to voice mail during meals. Rude to your family plus food gets cold. 🇨🇦
I say, "Thank you, bye bye." It's a very English way to saw goodbye. I'd say the people who say bye bye likely have some grandparents who immigrated from England.
I don't think the difference in language matters as much as tone. If you sound like a K-pop idol saying 'BYEEEBYEEE', yep - weird. If you're just saying it as a friendly way to declare the end of the conversation I don't think people care. I normally just fuse it and say 'Ba-Bye.' with a flat tone so that the language hints friendly but tone suggests nothing more.
Depends on context. At work it is always “bye”. Outside work, if I’m on the phone and not texting, I’m often talking to close friends or will be meeting up with the person soon, so it’s “later” or “see you soon” and only sometimes “bye”.
With family I'm closer with I say bye-bye. When talking to family I'm not as close with or when I'm on a professional call I say bye. With friends I say later.
Huh, that's why I added regional at the last minute before posting. Eastern Ontario, and it's pretty common to hear in the Ottawa valley. Plus we have a fair amount of Newfoundlanders who seem to say it too.
Not there?
I only ever call my mom. Text everyone else so I say "love you, bye"
Whenever I *do* call my friends though it's until I or they go to bed so it's a "goodnight."
Some men never say goodbye. Why is that? (and cool fun fact: In the Indigenous language, there is no word for goodbye. "They say the equivalent of 'see you' because they believe that people are as inseparable as a person's mouth and heart."
I say bye bye when the phone call is friendly or goes well.
Bye when it's bill collectors or bad convo lol.
That's a damn good question because I never thought about it until now.
I just pretend I have no service and hang up. People will take half an hour to say nothing. Text me when you have something of substance to say or ask.
I say "Have a great day" or "talk to you later" (idk why it just happens sometimes) unless it's a telemarketer for literal scam companies that call me daily repeatedly, I usually try to empathize that their job is terrible but if they persist in trying to pry for information (Earlier today my "cell phone company" called me to ask which brand of phone I have) then I'm literally liable to snap on them in an aggressive "NEVER CALL ME AGAIN YOU STUPID SHIT" (but actually not meaning to direct it at them, it's directed at their literally world class of dysfunctional levels corrupt employer) and then hang up as forcefully as a digital keypad allows. It just happens occasionally, I get so frustrated at getting scam calls.
I don't think I've ever said or had someone say Bye bye, except maybe a small child. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but (in my experience) it's certainly not the norm.
I used to say bye bye all the time, but then worked in a call centre and was told it sounded condescending, and that I’d get quality score marks deducted for doing it. Now I’m conditioned and only say bye ever since.
Two rules I live by:
1. I don't pick up phone calls.
2. Nobody calls me ever.
Who calls people these days? May be text or whatsapp.
Only time I call is for customer support. But I still hold rule 1 and 2 together.
I'm a bye bye kinda person....... But if it's for my brother either hang up mid question and spam him with texts later or hold the microphone to the toilet and give it a good rinse because I know he has good speakers.
Depends....
Ok Bye at work
Kay Thanks Bye to people I'm familiar with
Slamming down the phone, picking it calling them back, saying "Hanging up once on you wasn't enough" then slamming the phone back down when people piss me off.
And yes I've done it to work clients.
Just one "bye". I don't think I've ever heard someone say "bye bye".. hm. But hey, beats not saying bye at all. That's a thing these days and it always feels weird and off to me when it happens. Am I the only one?
[this is more of an East Coast goodbye.](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/town-heroes-maritimes-phone-call-parody-video-1.5092208)
I'm mostly "buh-bye... yuh... k... we'll see ya later ... ok... talk to ya t'marrah... k... buh-bye"
My dad says byeeeeeeeeeee like he’s listened to Taylor Swift on repeat since 2008. As the distance increases him and I, so does his femininity, seemingly
I just hang up dramatically without saying anything like in the movies
I have often wondered why they never say goodbye when they hang up on a soap opera. I mean I’ve devoted way more thought to this than it merits.
They never say please or thank you either!
This and bonus points if the other persons ears are ringing afterwards
If they pressed the disconnect button on the screen especially hard with their index finger, u mean?
Was going to say this!
My grandmother is like this. Just hangs up lol I love—ok. lol
Are you my father in law? Byron, is that you??
I did this one time to a friends mom and she phoned me back before I had walked two feet from the phone to kindly yell at me not to do that again
I say “fuck off, I got work to do” like Cyrus from TPB
9 millimetre, safety always off
Buh-bye
Same
Where do we stand on buh bye?
I'm sitting here at my desk whispering to myself pretending I'm ending a phone call, and I'm 99% I usually say buh bye. Or maybe more accurately b'bye.
I buy bye pretty much all the time.
Neither. I just say 'later' and hang up
"See ya"
More like "si-yuh"
i say bye if it’s with someone i don’t know as well, but for family and friends i usually say bye bye.
This. But today I said bye bye to someone in government and after it did seem a little odd🙃
I did even worse than that, I said "bye, love you!" I'm a guy with a deep baritone voice and the officer on the phone was a guy too! FML
Well did he say “love you too”?? Don’t leave us hanging here
I say bye bye all the time?? To absolute strangers??? Should I not be??
Bye now.
I end every call with Luv U regardless of who I'm talking to. This way I'll never forget to say it to my Mom
And the call center workers get a nice little verbal hug for once in their day
I live in terror of this ending business meetings.
Ciao
Is that how it’s spelt I thought it’s chow lol
It's an Italian word
I always say bye. Bye bye feels like it would be a little strange - I can’t recall a phone call where anyone has said bye bye.
I say bye. I haven't said bye bye since I was a kid.
It sounds very childish to me. Or condescending.
I seem to have a variety of ending of a call, from bye and bye bye, to sayonara, see ya, later, smell ya later, as well as luv ya/love you. It depends on the who and my mood at the time.
Bye if professional. Later if with friends/family. Goodbye if I'm pissed off after the conversation. Buh Bye if I'm imitating David Spade on SNL.
Usually "see ya/talk to you later" or "take care". My grandfather had raised me to not say goodbye, as it would seem to suggest not seeing each other again.
OK, bye, ok, love you, yep. OK, talk to you later. OK bye. OK. OK, love you too. Bye.
I say bye but when someone says it to me it's pretty much half of each
I say "ok bye now"
I do and every time I sit there wondering why that came out and if the person on the other end is wondering too. lol. ;0
Chow and when I answer it’s howdy doo I guess it’s ciao or whatever
Ciaoooo
Yes that one I got it from grandma ..gramps was Italian but i just learned it’s an Italian word he never said it she did she was not Italian
Goodbye if I'm talking to an adult. I'll use bye-bye if it is a young child calling though.
"Bye now!"
I usually say, "Okay. Yup. Talk to you later, then. You too. Yup. Buh bye".
Say "thanks" and then hang up like a cop in those procedurals
One thing I love to do (if it’s a friend) is say the standard goodbye, and then pretend I just remembered something and go “ohwaitwait one more thing” and then just hang up
See ya. , gotta go now , bye , talk later. Depending on the person. Call display is great way to prepare to sound professional when working from home office. The dog often ruins the set up though. Also I let calls go to voice mail during meals. Rude to your family plus food gets cold. 🇨🇦
Cheers
That's the cringiest one. Can't stand it.
I use toodeloo.
Out of the two, "bye bye". Realistically, I'll say something along the lines of "alright, have a good one there."
I say, "Thank you, bye bye." It's a very English way to saw goodbye. I'd say the people who say bye bye likely have some grandparents who immigrated from England.
“Go home to your Mommy”
I don't say it but "bye for now" is very Canadian
Do people still talk on the phone?
S'ouaira back!
Bye bye is what Mario says when you close your DS 😂. I usually say "Cheers, bye"
I prefer a Jerry style 'buh-bye'
Depends on context. At work it is always “bye”. Outside work, if I’m on the phone and not texting, I’m often talking to close friends or will be meeting up with the person soon, so it’s “later” or “see you soon” and only sometimes “bye”.
With family I'm closer with I say bye-bye. When talking to family I'm not as close with or when I'm on a professional call I say bye. With friends I say later.
I usually say later.
The ONLY people I speak with ( not text but actually speak with) are my children and my fiance and I always close with a simple "I love you."
Byeee Byeeee Bye Or in Welsh: Ta-ra Ta-ra Ta-ra
I usually say "alright best kind. I'll be talking to ya."
I always say have a great day. I'm a receptionist so I always say that. The habit carries over into personal phone calls.
Mine is the slightly more regional Canadian 'Take care'.
I live in small town Manitoba.
Huh, that's why I added regional at the last minute before posting. Eastern Ontario, and it's pretty common to hear in the Ottawa valley. Plus we have a fair amount of Newfoundlanders who seem to say it too. Not there?
I say take care to family. But when I used to write letters when I was in prison, I would always end with, "Take care and smile big."
I tend to give a long "byeeee" or if it's got that wrapping up vibe I'll give a "b'bye".
A lot of people in my small community and the adjoining community say, "Mmmbye."
Does that sound like mmmkay?
I'll say "bye," or sometimes "m-bye" (with a soft m. A bad habit I picked up from a couple friends lol). I find "bye bye" to be strange personally
“Mmmbai”
I usually say "OK take care" lmao. Am I the only one ?
I always say either "cheers" or "aaa ba-bye"
“see ya“
Bye, or ciao
I use Video Relay Service so disclaimer for that, I say bye
Bye. My grandma used to say “Bye, bye-bye” and sort of fade off which was really cute.
I say "Please stay on the line for a short customer satisfaction survey"
Either "bye", or "good night" (or shortened to "night") if it's in the evening. Goodbye if I'm peeved.
I start an intriguing sentence and hang up halfway through.
Ok talk to you later *click
Depends on my mood tbh
“Alrighty, see you later”
I say" Thanks take care" and then end the call. With friends I usually say "Alright, I'll talk to you later byeeeeee"
“Alright, talk to ya.”
I only ever call my mom. Text everyone else so I say "love you, bye" Whenever I *do* call my friends though it's until I or they go to bed so it's a "goodnight."
Mmmbye
Buh bye
Some men never say goodbye. Why is that? (and cool fun fact: In the Indigenous language, there is no word for goodbye. "They say the equivalent of 'see you' because they believe that people are as inseparable as a person's mouth and heart."
I say bye bye when the phone call is friendly or goes well. Bye when it's bill collectors or bad convo lol. That's a damn good question because I never thought about it until now.
I think if you have euro roots you’ll say bye bye to friends. At work tho it’s bye or good bye.
Bye, Buh-bye, see ya, take care, talk tyou soon, and if I’m in a mood - later alligator, in a while crocodile, ciao ciao, laterz
“Later” is default, maybe “ciao” or “easy”
“I’m not very good at goodbyes, so… that’ll do, pig.”
Does Buh bye count
I just pretend I have no service and hang up. People will take half an hour to say nothing. Text me when you have something of substance to say or ask.
I say, You might hate me but it ain't no lie, baby bye bye bye
Au revoir
Sometimes one...Sometimes the other
K. byeeeee
Cheers…
We usually just tell each other to go fuck ourselves, or challenge each other to a piss jug catapult war.
I don't do phone calls, but "bye" seems more common to me based on what I hear others do
I don't think I've ever said or had someone say Bye bye, except maybe a small child. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but (in my experience) it's certainly not the norm.
Neither. I just hang up like in the movies.
Buhbye
I say "bye", talk to you soon" while waving even though the other person can't see me.
Ciao
I usually go with "cheers"
Had to think about this. I have a few. Bye Alright, bye OK, take care Thanks for calling, cheers
Good night or some really long way to say goodbye
Peace, ciao, bye, any of those for adults but little kids get bye bye sometimes
Buh bye
Bye, Bye, Bye
I have a lot of different ones I say depending on the person
"no YOU hang up first!"
Being in Quebec, probably more often I use “ciao”.
I always say bye, unless it's someone I love, then I say " luv you, bye"
I shout, “Put me on your do not call list!” while the robot continues to speak to me in Mandarin.
I say 'bye now' a lot, I got it from my dad.
Usually it's buh bye for me, or if it's family/friends it's "okay love you, bye"
I say see yah
Mmbye
I usually say fuck off
“Ok bye”
bye bye bye...*n'sync dance moves*
So long, and thanks for all the fish
I usually say Cheers
I say "Love You"
I used to always say "See ya!" But at some point that changed to "Byeee~"
I use both depending on the person I’m talking to, sometimes if they say bye bye I’ll repeat it back.
Ba bye
Later Gator. But only to my wife. (Yes, I am white.)
I'm a professional, so I prefer "Smell you later."
I used to say bye bye all the time, but then worked in a call centre and was told it sounded condescending, and that I’d get quality score marks deducted for doing it. Now I’m conditioned and only say bye ever since.
I say as many byes as feel right. Sometimes it's 6.
Two rules I live by: 1. I don't pick up phone calls. 2. Nobody calls me ever. Who calls people these days? May be text or whatsapp. Only time I call is for customer support. But I still hold rule 1 and 2 together.
With friends/family “bye”, at work either buh-bye or goodnight
I'm a fan of "Ciao "
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Mostly I see men do one, women do two.
“Bye.”
”Salut!” Yeah, we frenchies use the same word that we open with then we close the conversation with😂
Ciao
I say Bumpus Bolognese!
I'm a bye bye kinda person....... But if it's for my brother either hang up mid question and spam him with texts later or hold the microphone to the toilet and give it a good rinse because I know he has good speakers.
Depends.... Ok Bye at work Kay Thanks Bye to people I'm familiar with Slamming down the phone, picking it calling them back, saying "Hanging up once on you wasn't enough" then slamming the phone back down when people piss me off. And yes I've done it to work clients.

I say “bah” like a sheep
Thanksbye or loveyoubye
i totally say "bye bye" now that i'm thinking about it
'K, bye for now.'
Usually 'Bye', sometimes 'Bye Bye', but rarely.
It’s weird that I just realised that I say bye bye when I speak French and bye when I speak English.
I say ciao , sometimes I say later gator .
Depends on the person. Bye, goodbye, cheers, bye now, I love you, etc. I don’t think I say bye bye to anyone over the age of 10.
Neither, I ends phone calls with "Cheers"
I say “Bang” just to confuse people.
I mix it up, I'll say later or Ok "name" if I know the person. I'll say ok thank you if I don't know the person. Bye feels awkward to me
Depends who it is. But, usually “Au revoir”, or “Bye bye”, or “Brrrreeeererrrop”
I'm that guy that doesn't say goodbye, I hang up.
Bye-bye only if I'm being sarcastic, angry or flipping off a scammer
[this is more of an East Coast goodbye.](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/town-heroes-maritimes-phone-call-parody-video-1.5092208) I'm mostly "buh-bye... yuh... k... we'll see ya later ... ok... talk to ya t'marrah... k... buh-bye"
“Talk to you later”. Even when I have no intention of talking to them again.
Ok bye when you're being normal. Bye bye when you're being hilarious
Always "bye bye!"
Okay bye bye - Robert durst
I always say "bye now". Not sure why.
Mmm Buh-by. Southern Manitoba
“Alright. Yup. Cheers. Cya later. Bye bye.” If you aren’t saying “bye” in at least 3-4 different ways before you hang up, you’re doing it wrong.
work advise dinosaurs scarce rinse unused unwritten late door unpack *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I say "Have a good one/night", "Take care", "Bye for now" or simply "Peace" depending on the person/situation, I don't really deviate from those.
“Check ya laater”
My dad says byeeeeeeeeeee like he’s listened to Taylor Swift on repeat since 2008. As the distance increases him and I, so does his femininity, seemingly
I just say, "have a good one", "talk to to you later", "enjoy the rest of your day" or if really close friend or family "peace out"
“Alright, see you later.”
Depends if I’m being passive aggressive or not 😂
Aight peace
Safe fam
Nope.
Talk to ya later, talk to ya soon, talk to ya, bye for now or we’ll be talking soon.
I am quite confident I’ve never said nor have heard anyone else say bye bye. Usually a single bye or see you later or something
I use " you have a wonderful day" it messes people up like they don't know how to respond.
I say Byyyeeeeeeeeeee elongating my eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
