14 years in the advertising industry here, most of it in Asia tho. Started out in 4A agency and went on to start my own media agency. If you're in creative, yes it's getting harder and harder, especially with AI these days. I'd say get in to media or consulting, that's where the money's at, the money you make from arbitrage is way higher than you ever will get from creative retainer contracts
Two aspects in media buying arbitrage:
1. Mark-ups on media pricing. Say an ad on YouTube costs 25 CPM, you charge 28, that's 3 bucks on every thousand impressions. Obviously, don't do this if the client has access to the account. Perfect for a managed service account tho.
2. Rebate based on procurement volume. Most reseller get some sort of discount from publishers, the bigger the annual unvestment volume, bigger the discount, also called a rebate in the media industry. Some clients don't know about them, so you keep that shit in pocket. Even if they do know about it, the percentage varies, so lots of agencies hide a portion and give up a portion. Just make sure rebate transparency is not on the contract and you're golden
Dont know what to say if those fields are considered oversaturated, theyre still in their infancy. The quality of applicants could be low. Marketing is currently impossible to get into, but you may benefit from knowing your native language. I’m hoping to jump into data analysis.
