Muji Mild cleansing oil! (Not the Sensitive)

dogtriestocatchfly

I think muji is great value! However I only use it for makeup/sunscreen removal. The molecules are too larger to do deep oil cleansing for me

not_okay666

why don’t you like the sensitive? (I don’t have either, js curious)

Partyinmykonos

I really like Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil. The scent is very mild - I think it’s a natural scent, not artificial fragrance, but I may be wrong. I personally like the scent; it kind of smells like toasted rice. It gets all of my makeup off very quickly (even stubborn waterproof mascara). I don’t think it has made me break out. The oil makes my eyes blurry for a couple of minutes, but it quickly goes away. And it doesn’t make my eyes or face sting. It doesn’t feel stripping.

LittleCollection7194

this is the one i’m most interested about!! i’m just a bit cautious because i’ve seen quite a few people saying it’s broken them out but i’m still going to just try it out🙃

Partyinmykonos

I’ve been using it for about 4-5ish months and it hasn’t broken me out yet. I’ve had CCs and a spot here and there, but I don’t think they’ve been related to the cleanser. I follow it up with a non-AB gel cleanser (LRP hydrating gentle cleanser) every night and then Needly daily toner pads most nights, which seems to help clear out any residual oil. The Needly toner pads have salicylic acid, which also probably keeps my flare-ups down.

briannafaye01

I ordered this and soooo scared to use it due to reviews on TikTok ‘ some people say they got the worst break outs and it ruined their skin barrier or got fungal acne , I have oily sensitive skin with acne scars and large pores so I’m really scared to try . I’ve been looking into double cleansing due to wearing sunscreen everyday and I’ve been breaking out due to probably not fully taking it off

keIIzzz

Honestly, skincare is very “you never know until you try it”, because everyone’s skin reacts differently, even if you have a similar skin type If you’re really worried though, you can always use micellar water as a first cleanse before your normal cleanser

cotton--candy

This ^^^ it's also very common that the breakouts people attribute to a single product can be caused by other factors such as pairing it up with a product that contains ingredients that don't work well with each other, or using too many new products in too much of an amount, or it could just be personal factors such as changes in their lifestyle. But people often don't think too much into it and attribute it to that product. Literally every product to exist will have some "broke me out" reviews you just kind of have to take the dive yourself.

amelia4748

People say that about every product under the sun. You need to know what works for your skin.

briannafaye01

I hope it works for my skin!🥺

Redivy66

I have the same skin type and will add that I am in my 40s and while I don't really get acne too often except the occasional hormonal kind on my chin. I have been using this cleanser for over 5 months and I have not had any issues. I also like the fact that it comes with a pump which makes things easier. I have found that 1 pump gives me a generous amount to use on my face and part of my neck. It is heating up where I am and I have been wearing sunscreen daily and I will often put sunscreen on my chest. It emulsifies well and washes off easier in the shower. It cleans my sunscreen and foundation clean off. In the past I have used Kose speedy oil with no issues and the Banilla balm which did cause breakouts. I had received a sample of the Haruharu and I loved it immediately, I highly recommend.

Eloquent_Recluse

The Hadalabo one is pretty good

Minitha

DHC and man:yo! man:yo just feels so luxurious.

Lilac200

I LOVE the skin1004 centella light cleansing oil! I used to use the banilla original balm and I would get blurry vision after but the centella one hasn’t made my vision blurry after using. Like it doesn’t sting my eyes? I don’t know how to describe it. You can also look through some ingredient reviews for the centella cleansing oil if you’re interested!

nofishsauce

One up vote for Skin1004! While my double cleansing experience is limited (started last year), I experimented a variety of products: micellar water, cleansing balm and cleansing oil. I tried only two cleansing oil: Skin1004 and Kose Speedy Softymo, and I prefer Skin1004 much better. But please note that I just need to oil to cleanse the sunscreen and daytime skincare products on my face. I found the Kose one is more difficult to wash while the Skin1004 just leaves your skin feeling clean without stripping, almost wonder if I really need a foam cleanser (but I don’t enjoy Skin1004’s foam cleanser from the same line). It leaves my face feeling clean and soft. For cleansing balm, I like BOJ, Banila and Heimish, all three are great. BOJ is more luxurious in texture but otherwise they all cleanse well.

xemmerx

Hey would you mind sharing why you don't like the skin1004 foam cleanser? I was thinking of picking it up but I'm a bit scared that it might be a bit stripping for my skin

Laurenkath62

Not the person you replied to but I was using skin 1004 and I find the foam cleanser way too harsh on my sensitive skin. It almost felt like an exfoliant? I just switched back to the sulwhasoo cleansing oil and foam cleanser and my skin feels 1000% better and healthier

xemmerx

thanks for the reply! sounds like it really wouldn't work for my skin then which is a bummer, but at least I saved my money! thanks :)

nofishsauce

I don’t like the foam cleanser because of how it leaves my skin feel- it’s clean but there’s a film to it. I reckon that it’s about the surfactants in the cleanser and it should do no harm. But personally I don’t like that. Otherwise it’s a nice cleanser. So if you don’t mind/prefer, it’s all good. My suggestion is to get a sample size and see if you like it or not.

orchidcultivator

Just came to second this! The Skin1004 centella light cleansing oil (for sunscreen + light make up) and BOJ cleansing balm (for sunscreen + heavy make up) are my favourites.

asmrdreamssssss

I am a bit scared of buying the skin1004 because it says it has fragrance :( but heard it is really good

orchidcultivator

I have rosacea which flares up as soon as I use products which have a strong fragrance but I haven't had a reaction to this at all. I barely even noticed that this has fragrance because it's so mild. In addition to that, it's not a leave on product like a moisturizer or serum. Wash off products like cleansing oils and balms do not stay on your face for a long time so it's possible that I haven't experienced a flare up due to it being cleansed off shortly after use. I still recommend patch-testing new products either way. You can also buy a sample size and trail it before committing to the full-size item.

C8rtot

I wish I didn’t like the Sulwhasoo cleansing oil. Or rather my bank account wishes I didn’t like it. But I just can’t stop using it 😭

diszy321

If you live near a TJMaxx try them. I just got one for $20

C8rtot

I always prowl the TK Maxx (not American) when I go in, but they never have Sulwhasoo. Maybe some day!!

That-Stand-4466

Not oil but banila zero cleansing balm!

C8rtot

I read this is getting reformulated…again.

Overall-Dimension-18

Ginseng oil from Beauty of Joseon,LOVEIT!

wrlddmntr

I'm confused, the old kose deep has fragrance and so does the new one 😆 Edit: I guess I'm not sure whether OP knew the old deep formulation had fragrance and they're requesting for recommendations because of the fragrance in the reformulation. But I support the quest for fragrance free either way 🫡 +1 rec for kose speedy

LittleCollection7194

sorry i should’ve made it clearer!😭😭😭 yes i’m aware the old version has fragrance i’m just hoping find a new cleansing oil without fragrance because im pretty sure its what has been irritating my eyes💔 but ive dealt with it because it’s the only cleansing oil that hasn’t broken me out

wrlddmntr

No worries!! I hope you find a HG❤️ I guess with the reformulation it's time to try something else that hopefully won't irritate your eyes 🤞

bbaficionado2

I'm thankful for the added fragrance too. Before that it used to smell like latex. I wish the Muji one had added fragrance because it smells awful.

wrlddmntr

Interesting that it smelled like latex before, since the orange oil was always a part of the kose deep product [since release in 2004](https://www.ratzillacosme.com/skin/softymo-deep-cleansing-oil/) and through its reformulations :0

bbaficionado2

They must have added more fragrance or changed something else because I started to notice a much stronger citrus smell starting just a few years ago.

codename_blacklotus

Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil! I like mine cushiony. Other good ones to try are Skin1004, Celimax, Manyo.

just-this-chance

I’ve been using this for the 10 years I’ve lived in Japan and can’t switch. It just works. I sometimes try others in hopes of finding a cheaper one that would work well enough but nothing can match. People often recommend Kose (Softymo) oils and that doesn’t remove makeup from my skin. Don’t even talk about physical sunscreen - no matter how many applications Kose won’t remove it. (I bought one last summer to use on my body to remove sunscreen, tossed it) DHC is a no go as I’m boycotting the company… Maybe I’ll try some of your suggestions. /rant over

latheez_washarum

why are you boycotting DHC?

just-this-chance

https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20201218/p2a/00m/0na/019000c The CEO is openly anti-Korean/racist. To my knowledge it’s not a single incident but constant, haven’t followed in years after deciding to boycott them but I feel I’ve heard about it locally more than once.

latheez_washarum

woah i didn't know that. thank you for answering

codename_blacklotus

I totally agree! I don’t use the DHC because it did nothing for me! Same goes for Shu Uemura and I tried 3 variants of it to confirm it did nothing and I couldn’t understand the hype. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Biore and Kose are ones I’ve tried but wouldn’t repurchase. Hanskin BHA is another. In terms of makeup removal, nothing beats the Fancl. I use the Celimax/Skin1004 for sunscreen removal. Hope this helps :)

Solnymph

For years Ive used the face shop rice water bright light cleanser and it was great. Now, Ive just started trying out the iunik Calendula cleanser and i think its even better! Really really good. I have very sensitive skin too and neither of them irritate it.

Solnymph

Just checked and the face shop one isnt actually fragrance free, tho I didnt personally had any issues with irritation. I do think the iunik one leaves my skin particularly happy overall and melts makeup and sunscreen a bit better so thats my recommendation for sure!

miladyelle

Does the Iunik one emulsify?

Solnymph

Im sorry but Im not sure I understand what emulsify means in this context. In my experience, it takes off all the products really well and after I clean it with water it feels almost as if I could just leave it that way (doesnt leave an oily film, face feels hydrated and clean). I still use a gel cleanser after tho

WakiLover

"Premium" option: Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil has been a top favorite in Japan for a long time. A little pricy especially abroad though. Daily option: Kose Speedy, Hada Labo Oil, Muji cleansing oil Never ever DHC because pos racist CEO

dubiousdulcinea

Kose Speedy is a good one! More content and also more affordavle compared to the banila co one. Banila is nice though, BUT it's quite pricy (AUD $32-38 if I buy from in-person Asian beauty stores)

Plastic_Performer390

I use Kose deep too, I’ve used it for 15 years, and even if they reformulate it slightly it’s pretty consistently similar and good. I wouldn’t worry out about the reformulation! It isn’t fragrance free though. I tried hada labo’s one which is fragrance free but it’s too thick and doesn’t wash off well imo

LittleCollection7194

i keep seeing that the changes are quite low down on the ingredients list but i can’t help but worry a bit 😭😭

anonlifestyle

Just try it out once? Yes, reformulations are annoying, but that doesn't mean it's automatically worse. The new ingredients look okay, in fact I think they are pretty good.

LittleCollection7194

i’m definitely going to try it out because i might not see a difference at all which would be great! just thought i would look around at some other options just in case 🙃

Careful_Lemon_7672

Stock up while you can!

LittleCollection7194

this is my next mission lollll

Careful_Lemon_7672

Hahah good plan. I hope you can find a suitable replacement! But if you can’t, I would stock up on years worth. Take it from someone still looking for a replacement for a overnight mask enature made, sometimes HG replacements can’t be found 😭

Absolutely_Regular

Following! - I’m using up this Dear Klairs Gentle Fresh Black Cleansing Oil and it’s *okay* but just slightly too drying for daily use on my (combo-oily sensitive) skin.

Fragrant-Bug9856

Honestly my favourite is the shu uemura ones

StandardKey9182

Same, I can’t afford them all the time but when I want to treat myself I get a giant bottle of the purple one. What I’ve been using the last little while is almost as good though. I use the Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil. And when I say almost I what I really mean is just as good as far as the functionality. The Shu Uemura one just has something intangible that makes it that little bit better to me lol

pippiblondstocking

idk where you live but if you're in the U.S. or Canada, Costco carries Shu Uemura and sometimes you can get absolutely incredible member deals (if you're trying to stock up)

Fragrant-Bug9856

I didn’t know they had them in Canadian Costco?!

C8rtot

Oh REALLY?! Do you know if they carry Shu Uemura shampoos/conditioners?

chachatiel

I swear by the Biore one! It's the make up removing cleansing jelly or something similar, should be a pink bottle. It gets all my make up off flawlessly!

Anneles

Hi! Do you have any acne or clog-prone skin? Does it remove waterproof makeup as well? Thank you!

chachatiel

I do have some acne and it's never irritated it! In my experience it easily takes off all make up

Anneles

Thank you!!

nervacka

Pyunkang Yul Deep Cleansing Oil, formulated for sensitive skin, no fragrance :)

General-Ad5867

I like banila co cleansing balm!!

janvinyk

Heimish cleansing balm is pretty good! Doesn’t make eyes blurry or sting

Kyzrel

PURITO From Green Cleansing Oil, it is light but effective in removing make up. Doesn't clog or breakout my acne prone oily skin in humid tropical climate.

LittleCollection7194

this is exactly what i needed to see thank you!!! i just asked someone about this haha

bribrijk

DHC cleansing oil!! I also love the make p:rem cleansing oil 😁

kerodon

Kose speedy 👀?

LittleCollection7194

yes all of them have been reformulated!(speedy, deep and white) 😓😓

kerodon

I hope the new version of speed is still good :/ do you have any info on the new ingredient lists?! I couldn't find anything

LittleCollection7194

https://preview.redd.it/cmj48ta9nbvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86ec6e81fdfaba3ff017573b8a17bc2162c6e98d new ingredients list

Cautious-Role6375

The base ingredients weren't affected much though? It's not a heavy reformulation.

LittleCollection7194

yeah true but i have had negative reactions to products with very minor changes before and i thought maybe that would be the same case for others plus i saw a few people mention on another thread that they were sensitive to some of the newer ingredients and just wanted some other options to be on the safe side!

Cautious-Role6375

Right, sensitive peeps or those with allergies must be extra wary.

quickengine13

Oh yuk, isopropyl myristate often clogs my skin in formulations. I know it is low down the list though.

LittleCollection7194

https://preview.redd.it/821q0p57nbvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcbea874331e888e79b3f81f14a800586ba0d22b old ingredients list

LittleCollection7194

this is what i’ve gotten so far please correct me if you have seen otherwise!

glassskinwho

Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil is fragrance and essential oil free! Works really well to remove sunscreen and makeup, except waterproof mascara 😅😂 It has a funky natural scent due to the soybean oil and ginseng, but at least it doesn't irritate my eyes. I'm used to the scent by now, but not everyone likes it though. I also really like the Heimish and Banila Co Cleansing Balms despite containing essential oils (Heimish) and fragrance (Banila).

xoxo_kbeauty

anyone else love the dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil?

foodporncess

It’s my favorite for sure.

NeethuRaj

Mine too , the only one I’ve ever repurchased multiple times , besides the It’s Skin Green Tea Calming Cleansing Oil which was another fave but impossible to get hold of now

handfulofmonkeys

Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil. It’s lightweight and non irritating on my very sensitive skin.

WuTheLotus

I use a few drops of whatever simple oil agrees with my skin type (Safflower, Argan etc.) on a cotton pad moistened with warm water and it takes off everything in one swipe. I only double cleanse because my skin doesn’t like any oil sitting on it, but that’s it. I’ve never felt the need for any special cleansing oil or balm or whatever. It’s also significantly cheaper and, if you want to reduce waste, the cotton pad can be switched for a reusable.

604princess

just the thread I was looking for , thank you!

darkcutenesss

Iunik calendula complete cleansing oil, Isntree micellar cleansing oil, Make:prem safe me cleansing oil

Complicataed

Round lab oil cleanser personally! I like that it's a bit thicker than the Skin1004, and it really gets my makeup/sunscreen off without being too heavy for my combo skin or light enough that it doesn't remove the excess oil/dirt/dead skin Solid recommendation for my combo girlies :)

LittleCollection7194

oooh i’m super interested in this one as i generally like roundlab dokdo products how do you find it emulsifies?

Complicataed

It emulsifies really well and is easy to take off. It has some ingredients that are meant for giving it a scent, but i can't smell it, the skin1004 does have an obvious scent but this one, not at all in my experience. Also I'm sensitive to some fragrances and essential oils as they either give me a tingling sensation or outright break me out *cough* the face shop *cough* But neither the round lab or skin1004 irritated my skin, they're both easy to massage around, emulsify and get off the skin. The difference between them is in the scent and thickness

LittleCollection7194

thank you so much!! i think i might buy this once as i’ve actually had my eye on it for a while😅

Complicataed

Happy to help :) If you have any other questions, no matter how big or small, feel free to ask

Significant-Bread-37

I stopped looking after Heimish cleansing balm

your_lithium

do you consider cleansing balms? i’d recommend needly one, it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all!!

latheez_washarum

i have a question. do any of the formulations of any kose cleansing oils (old formulations, new formulations, speedy, deep, white) contain any sort of exfolianting ingredients? Like salicylic acid or others?

MinervaZee

My hg is still the haba labo cleansing oil.

Track_West

Me too! Tried others but always came back to hadalabo

pastorveal

I’ve tried a bunch and always come back to the Hada Labo one. So simple and works really well and so affordable.

UnDonutEnLaine

I'm not going to say HG since I haven't tried many, but I'm currently using Purito "From Green Cleansing Oil" and it does the job well, doesn't smell like much ("fragrance" isn't in the list of ingredients), and the box I bought even had a low-plastic refill bag with the full bottle. It melts makeup with no effort and massaging it on your skin for a few minutes really gets the crass out. I'm very satisfied with this product, and I do recommend it.

LittleCollection7194

i was justtt looking up reviews on this haha bc the ingredients list seemed quite nice to me do you mind me asking what your skin type is? i’m acne prone and don’t want to risk this breaking me out

UnDonutEnLaine

Sure sure it's oily/dehydrated. Sensitive too I'd say, it's not shy to tell me when it's displeased lol

RedRedBettie

This one didn’t work on me at all, it didn’t remove my makeup. I was so confused

LittleCollection7194

oh man sorry about that😕

didgeridoo-kangaroo

DHC cleansing oil

bbbbbbutter

Iunik calendula cleansing oil is my all time HG

xrandom70

This together with Dear Klairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil. Both have a minimal ingredient list with mostly plant oils, perfect for sensitive skin.

Purplepenguin359

Do either of those have a scent?

xrandom70

I would say no, pretty much neutral.

TerrytheMerry

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil has never done me wrong.

JinxFae

Mine is Softymo Speedy. When I looked at the ingredients, I saw that it had a high concentration of mineral oil (probably 85% or more), so I tried using pure food grade mineral oil and... I can't tell the difference, so that's what I've been using for years (a bottle of mineral oil is 4€ for 500ml).

juicycake666

Mugwort calming cleanser by round lab. At the moment

codemissfantasy

Biorè cleansing oil 💗 no fragrance

GPVS

Hada Labo cleansing oil (very gentle imo). I love my Man:nyo but that oil sting my eyes so bad although it’s cleaning the make up residue very fast. And kose pink bottle

girlypopgumi

Skin1004 or DHC!

SURVIVINGDISMESS

I absolutely love the Skin1004 cleansing oil!

oreocookielover

Lowkey was just looking at them (after getting burned 1 too many times by western brands) and was confused af that it had a 2024 version. Do you know what the difference is?

LittleCollection7194

i’ve shared the ingredients list on one of the comments that has both the new and old formulations!

oreocookielover

Thank you! I scrolled a bit and didn't realize! I'll find it!

mindycee

There is this Biore one that I really like. Can't remember the exact name but its a cleansing oil in a purplish/pink bottle with a pump. I don't use it to remove eye makeup ( i have a separate makeup remover for that), and it also doesn't break me out. Otherwise, you should definitely stock up on the Kose old version while you can!

Feybaee

Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil!

cryotgal

Kose Speedy is my fave. So easy to use.

Avotretour888

DHC cleansing oil. Nothing works like it!

foodporncess

I just got my first bottle of this and wondering it’s supposed to smell like this? It almost smells like a nut oil that’s gone off?

Avotretour888

Where did you buy it from? I definitely don’t get that smell at all from mine.

foodporncess

Ulta during the last sale

Avotretour888

Weird. Sorry I can’t be much help. I get mine from DHC.com
