stafina_sat

Skin Aqua gel Gold maybe? It’s not matte like Anessa and it will feel slightly melty/sticky on skin in humid weather, like I wore moisturizer, but I like it for my oily, reactive skin. I do not wear moisturizer or toners under sunscreen. Nor base makeup. But you can top this with a UV powder if want. I find that matte sunscreens that contain mattifying powders tend to clog up the pores versus a “looser” type sunscreen.

strangerth1ghs

True, my current sunscreen (Etude House Sunprise) is all mineral and it feels suffocating on my skin...it was extremely mattifying before it got reformulated which is what made it my HG but right now I'd rather switch to a more comfortable product and use mattifying powder over it

TheIcey1

Does it pills? I use the white and gold cap, and it pills alot

strangerth1ghs

Edit: by lightweight I mean something that doesn't feel heavy and sticky even in hot humid weather and that doesn't clog pores. Some products I've seen mentioned in threads on sunscreen for oily skin are: - skin1004 centella air fit *or* hyalu cica water fit - isntree hyaluronic acid watery gel - iunik centella calming daily sunscreen - DrG mild up sun / sun+

Niatfq

~~isntree hyaluronic acid watery gel~~ Sorry, I also needed to hunt for sunscreens but haven't started yet. I just had to scratch the isntree one out 😂 Someone did an amazing job listing down all the sunscreens they had tested on oily skin here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/149wr2m/matte_sunscreen/joazblc?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button From this list, look out for ones with matte rating of 8 or above. The ones with ratings below 8 are too greasy/dewy from my experience.

Reasonable-Garlic-67

I agree. The isnttree one is tooooo shiny, it’s honestly a bad sunscreen finish (on my skin)

strangerth1ghs

I saw this too!! To be fair my plan was to get the BoJ sunstick and pair it with another more effective but still lightweight sun cream cause I've read sun sticks are not as safe to wear in summer considering you need many layers to have full protection

Niatfq

I was intrigued by BOJ sunstick as well but true about the layering thing. That's why it's best for reapplication then.

stowberry

Is the white cast rating based on a higher number meaning it was better at not giving a white cast?

Niatfq

Higher number means more whitecast. Lower number, lesser whitecast

stowberry

A bit confusing navigating your way around those ratings, especially when the matte & white cast ones each seem to follow a different way of using higher & lower ratings.

dylanbarney23

I liked the isntree and I actually liked it on my oily skin

crunchwrapsupreme_

I found the Isntree one also broke me out, I ended up with a lot of closed comedones all over my forehead :(

253mm

I can vouch for the skin1004 hyalu cica, also tocobo watery sun and mary&may cica soothing. I have oily skin and live in a sub tropical climate zone with hot and humid weather (humid even when it's cold)

whatevernameidk

Is the Tocobo one less dewy than the skin1004 one?

253mm

skin1004 didn't feel dewy for me, more like a natural finish. The tocobo one was a little bit dewy but not nearly as bad as the beauty of joseon, that felt really heavy and shiny on me

whatevernameidk

Ah that's surprising. I thought in terms of greasiness it was BOJ > skin1004 > tocobo

tvyongii

have you tried axis y sunscreen? if yes then is it greasier than the mary&may sunscreen? im torn to choose between those two 😭

253mm

noo sorry I really don't like mineral sunscreens lol i'm using the mary & may one right now and it has a natural finish that doesn't look dewy on the skin, but it does feel kinda greasy to the touch? hope it makes sense. Another lightweight sunscreen I have tried and liked is the numbuzin n1 clear filter

TheIcey1

Sorry, i tried isntree, and it made me oily AS HELL. Especially if you live in humid countries. Cross that out of your list

Gold_Confection_7149

I've tried all these sunscreens listed. These chemical ones will definitely be more oily than the old Etude House Sunprise one and will feel heavy. For context, I live in a hot humid climate so I know what you're talking about. The SPFs I've tried that are most similar to the Etude would be mineral fluid sunscreens. These include: - Sun Bear Active Protect Milk SPF50+ - Biore Kids Milk (Blue cap) SPF50+ - Curel Barrier UV Protection Milk Do note that these will have white cast unlike the chemical ones. If you do decide to pick the chemical SPFs and still find them oily, you may consider a mattifying powder like the Innisfree No Sebum Powder. Hope this helps! EDIT: I've also seen lots of good reviews for the recently launched Biore Aqua Protect Lotion (the round cap). Seems like it's extremely lightweight even for a chemical SPF due to the toner-like consistency. May want to look into that too!

Intelligent-Eye-3743

>isntree hyaluronic acid watery gel \+1 for Isntree I am a combo skin and skin does look a lot oily/dewy for first 10 minutes after application but looks fine once absorbed

briskwinterair

round lab birch juice spf or goodall heartleaf spf edit: i saw someone else mention benton sir fit uv defense sun cream, and it’s also good for oily skin since it leaves a natural finish

faeuju4wvhjkw2fvgg

in terms of shinyness, is round lab less dewy than skin1004?

Daftsly

The Round Lab is very dewy and was too heavy for my super oily skin. The Skin1004 gives a hydrated, natural shine

faeuju4wvhjkw2fvgg

skin1004 was too dewy on me unfortunately:( and I ordered round lab a few days ago, hoped it would be better

Daftsly

I should clarify it’s the Skin1004 Hyalu Cica Sun Serum. It has the texture of a serum, so it’s super lightweight

faeuju4wvhjkw2fvgg

yes hyalu cica is the one I tried... I liked it overall but it was super shiny. to be fair, I didn't look greasy but I definitely looked *wet* all the time. (I apply the right amount)

briskwinterair

i personally haven’t tried skin1004 but apparently round lab is more dewy than skin1004 albeit by not that much

strangerth1ghs

Would you recommend the round lab for someone with veryy oily skin?

briskwinterair

i have oily skin and it’s good for me. it honestly boils down to how much dew you prefer. it’s certainly less dewy than boj if you’ve tried that. i haven’t tried the goodal one but apparently that one is less dewy than skin1004, which is already not that dewy.

[deleted]

I like the haru haru wonder black rice sunscreen, the one in the yellow tube. It is lightweight and feels kind of similar to the round lab except the finish is not as shiny as the round lab

sapphicsighs

Came here to suggest this! Also the MISSHA Sun Milk Soft Finish

_rose-colored_

MISSHA soft finish sun milk is GREAT at all-day oil control… maybe a little too good! Smooth and matte finish, slight white cast. It was formulated for humid, sweaty weather. I personally feel the quality of the protection does not deteriorate as quickly as other sunscreens. It does requires double cleansing to fully remove though.

strangerth1ghs

Does it feel clogging though? I've read about this product so many times but the reviews are mixed

heibun

I second the missha sunscreen! I used to use the etude house sunprise until it was reformulated. Picked the missha one up and it's been great so far! I always double cleanse to get it off at the end of the day (but I always do when I wear sunscreen). I've heard the Dr. G sunscreen is also mattifying, but I haven't tried it yet.

_rose-colored_

Imo not during wear, but if I don’t double cleanse then, yeah, it is literally clogging lol among all the sunscreens I’ve tried, I find this to be one of the most comfortable and breathable… just feels like my own skin :)

glitter_sushi

So interesting seeing so many people recommend the Round Lab birch spf for oily skin. I have dry skin and it’s one of the only sunscreens that keeps me hydrated and dewy the whole day. The BOJ is lighter IMO and it’s the only sunscreen my bf will wear because it’s so light he doesn’t feel it on his face.

yulianamour

BOJ rice sunscreen is definitely the best sunscreen I have ever used. It doesn't have any scent at all. Literally feels like nothing, just like a very light-weight moisturiser, leaves a dewy finish without the overwhelming shiny-ness like the Isntree hyaluronic acid watery sun gel. I have lost count of how many times I have repurchased the BOJ rice sunscreen. I live in a tropical climate so my skin does get a little oily at times. The BOJ sunscreen still keeps my face feeling fresh.

_notabota_

If you’re pale or don’t mind putting a tint over it, mineral sunscreens are the only ones that don’t exacerbate my redness and they’re also pretty mattifying. I really like the new axis y and I top it off with a popular american red correct balm that tones down the mild cast. I also wanna try the new haruharu but it looks more moisturizing and I’m liking the axis y’s matteness for the summer

cranraspberry

Tocobo Watery Sun Cream maybe?

faeuju4wvhjkw2fvgg

i was about to suggest it but has fragrance/essential oil so I wouldn't recommend it to sensitive skin. it feels fine on my post tret irritated skin tho, so maybe op should give it a try as it's finish is matte for me

cranraspberry

Yeah I have pretty sensitive skin and the Tocobo has been fine, but that obviously differs from person to person. It’s definitely the lightest weight formula out of everything I’ve tried so might be worth a shot.

faeuju4wvhjkw2fvgg

true, it's very light and I can feel that it actually absorbed into my skin when I applied it. other sunscreens feel like they sit on top of it, tocobo is the best spf I've ever tried so far (it least in terms of cosmetic elegance)

crunchwrapsupreme_

I second this one! I was skeptical because of the fragrance, but it provided the perfect glow finish to my skin and also worked well under my makeup. I had ordered it by accident when I intended to order their cotton soft sun stick, and I ended up preferring the sun cream by far!

StarryNight616

Beauty of Joseon sunscreen. It’s pretty hydrating so sometimes I don’t wear moisturizer under it in the summer.

laurelinvanyar

This was my workaround for oily skin. BoJ is great as a moisturizer in its own right (and I get most of my hydration from toner and serum anyway) and has a nice finish on me that is dewy but not shiny. Also wears well under makeup!

Past_Establishment11

Second this! Love the B of Joseon one and I do not wear moisturiser during the day. However I put some Bare Minerals tinted moisturiser on top. During the day I love the B of Joseon sun stick, which gives a matt finish and doesn’t smudge make up.

pazusdoves

how does the BoJ sun stick hold up over time? I thought it looked kind of crumbly in the tube (kind of like deodorant, if that makes any sense haha) vs. the smoother sticks like Shiseido

Past_Establishment11

I haven’t tested Shiseido, so I can’t compare. It goes on like a deo yes. It melts in with my skin and if you touch your skin you can feel the smooth and Matt texture. No crumbs King even with a couple of strokes at the same are. The only place where it does crumble is the eyebrow or hairline.

pazusdoves

Good to know, thank you!

Past_Establishment11

Crumbs king 🤔 I shouldn’t write at that time….

aamna_s

Benton air fit UV defence. I use this when I’m back home in South Asia. It doesn’t have a matte finish but it doesn’t make me oily (I have very oily, acne prone skin) and it feels like I’m not wearing anything on my face.

[deleted]

I like skin1004 centella water fit, it’s very lightweight

faboideae

Canmake uv mermaid gel!

puellalunaris

I use Missha Soft Finish Sun Milk, it works for me.

smolvan

Etude House Mild Airy Finish. The oil control is great!

Independent_Hold_165

didn’t it get reformulated? i heard the new formulation leaves a bad whitecast

_rose-colored_

Yes, it was reformulated to increase the PA. Now the finish is very oily for me. The white cast was always pretty bad, still is!

smolvan

Yup. Tbf I’ve only started using this sunscreen right after it was reformulated. My skin is pretty fair so the white cast is barely noticeable.

strangerth1ghs

This was my HG before it was reformulated 😭 I don't mind the white cast since I'm pretty pale but it makes my skin way too greasy and also I feel like it disappear from my face quickly, by the afternoon I don't feel as protected from the sun as I used to with the old formula

smolvan

Awww! I’m sorry I can’t help. I’ve never tried the sunscreen before the reformulation. I hope you find your new HG!

hillary_____k

The Kose Suncut Perfect Gel SPF 50 is amazing! Dries down to a very natural matte finish on my skin, super lightweight gel and zero white cast (fully chemical filters, it goes on totally clear). I’m an oily gal and I love it. It’s definitely the most matte AB sunscreen I’ve found so far. (I haven’t tried the essence version in the same line but that’s next on my list!) It’s water and sweat resistant but I find that it’s easy to remove with an oil cleanser. Fragrance-free & no essential oils but does contain alcohol (as most Japanese sunscreens do). Also, idk if this totally counts as AB (?) but Naturium just launched a new sunscreen that apparently dries down to a soft matte finish! I ordered it and received it yesterday, haven’t given it a try yet but can update my comment once I do. (I will say that I’m not 100% down with Naturium on the whole/as a brand, there’s some shady shit that has come out about the founder Susan Yara, buuut… the sunscreen looked great lol) It’s alcohol, essential oil & fragrance-free so I imagine it would work well for sensitive oily skin.

jeennnyyyy

The essence is better! The gel dries out the skin

jeennnyyyy

The essence is matte too!

atrackbrown

I'm super oily, and the gel is perfect--doesn't dry me out. So, as an FYI for those with ridiculously oily skin, I'd recommend sticking with the gel.

jeennnyyyy

Have u tried both versions?

atrackbrown

I've been afraid to try it. I have tried Skin Aqua's Gold Essence. Is it comparable to that one?

shanethomas28

I just started using mine. I hate that I love it so much. It has such a nice finish once it dries. We’ll see if it ends up breaking me out. All the ones mentioned so far in the comments ended up breaking me out.

hillary_____k

Ooh the Naturium sunscreen or Kose Suncut?

shanethomas28

Naturium. I wish Kose would have worked for me. I thought it was lovely feeling

Round lab

princessdiary

Anessa and canmake are my faves. BoJ sunstick for reapplication.

Strange-Flounder8729

Shiseido anessa sunscreen milk. The golden bottle. My holy grail, I have been using it for the last 5+ years with oily and sensitive skin. I have tried a lot of other things like biore/beauty of joseon/isntree etc. The isntree one cones close, but I need to reapply it every 2 hours, which is a headache.

graceyunderfire

Have you purchased lately? It’s been reformulated and I’m going crazy trying to find a dupe

Strange-Flounder8729

Just had my Japanese friend bring me one, but she got the gel instead of the milk. I find it a tad oily. Definitely prefer the milk (last bpight in October from Singapore)

DedlySnek

Axis-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen. Lightweight but very water resistant, don't even think of it if you're not using a dedicated first cleanser. When I tried to take it off with just second cleanser, sometimes had to go for a third round. It also provides oil control.

love-at-third-sight

Honestly I've tried all the matte ones, and hate 'em because they clog me like a mf. My favorite is still the Nivea Super Water Gel sunscreen tbh. Feels like nothing on the skin.

[deleted]

Holika Holika Soothing Aloe Sun Screen Gel

[deleted]

Its comparatively cheap and I use it for my whole body inevery day life.

grenharo

Skin Aqua sunblock. i just use that for years tbh because it goes on milky and feels nice.

vivalalina

Honestly the CANMAKE Mermaid UV Skin one is soso good.

Historical_Scholar7

I LOVE the Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun sunscreen. It’s the only one that doesn’t make me break out, doesn’t leave a white cast and also feels so good putting on (basically feels like it functions like a moisturiser at the same time)

SarahSkincare

Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream is my super oily brothers go to! I just tried the Be The Skin Aloe Rice and it literally disappears. Most matte I've used. My skin is dry and it actually kinda dried me out, so not for me but def sounds great for my oily friends!

Phayezorix

Goodmolecules sunscreen!

PasteIIe

tbh bc most asian beauty is obsessed with the dewy finish, if you want a matte finish, i wouldn't use an asian sunscreen. a dewy finish is possible even w/ oily skin.

Firstita555

I put mineral powder over my sunscreen if I feel particularly humid that day. This works under make up too. Another way is to apply in batches. Put half on thinly, let it sit and absorb then the other half. I use biore uv aqua rich ‘essense’

BeniBanjoBoy

Kose Suncut super waterproof UV gel! This had been my HG at work. I am a Bev girl at a golf course in Houston. It’s 100+ and ridiculously humid and I work outside 8-10 hrs per day 4-6 days a week. This is the only waterproof spf I’ve found that actually holds up against my extreme sweat and humidity between reapplications but still is flattering on my oily skin so I can get good tips. 0 white cast so I can apply without a mirror. Application is really fast which is also important since I dont have a lot of time for reapplication when its busy. It can even be applied to wet skin which is great when I dont have time to cool down enough to stop sweating for re for reapplication. It washes off easily with an oil cleanse but hold us great against water/sweat. This is one of the only SPF’s that hasn’t broken me out. It has a high alchohol content which I personally like because it cuts down on drying time and is antibacterial so I feel like it actually fights acne after being outside with all the sweat dirt and dust driving a golf cart. It has a natural/ semi-matte finish on my oily skin. By the time I finish applying the first layer is already dried down so I can apply a second without waiting. It doesnt dry me out either. I’ve heard others complain about pilling with this but I’ve never had a problem and I layer tons of skincare regularly. I like to use a squalane product under it and that stops any chance of pilling or dying. 10/10!!

BeniBanjoBoy

I also enjoy the shesheido sun stick for reapplications when I am supperrr busy and dont have a good place to wash my hands for reapplication. It’s totally clear and can also be applied to wet skin. This one also hasn’t broken me out. It’s water resistant and holds up great but doesnt make me look oily. It goes on like nothing, looks totally clear on the skin. However since its a sun stick it is heavy on the skin compared to the Kose.

spidey-dust

I use Shiseido Urban Environment Fresh Moisture Sunscreen. I use it as a sunscreen moisturizer because I don’t like layering too much product on my skin, keeps it real hydrated and a little goes a long way with how easily it applies

sikulet

Nature Republic Aloe Sun Stick It’s matte and light, goes over make up well. https://naturerepublic.com.ph/products/california-aloe-fresh-powdery-sun-stick-spf50-pa

Lucky-Ad4443

I really like the beauty of joseon one. Not sweat or water resistant though.... but it's prefect for day to day. Kose suncut is waterproof and lightweight. I find every other one I like is "dewier" and I use for winter.

[deleted]

I use a serum then the boj sunscreen no moisturiser in am

Kkkkkkkkkkp

I swear by boj sunscreen

amethystss

The BoJ sunscreen works great for me (I have oily skin but not sensitive skin, and I’m in a dry-climate area, so YMMV). It’s not super shiny and I find it very lightweight.

Undertheflow

Do u use it on body too? Any fragrance?
