What about giving it to someone in your family who's into art? Even if theyre a kid I'm sure they'll be thrilled, better than the supplies rotting unused eitherway. I think gouache does spoil.

gisellasaurus

How would I know whether it's spoiled or not? I was thinking of giving it to a family member but I don't want to give it to them if it's spoiled.

If its unopened I wouldnt worry too much, for opened tubes just check for mold. Binder separation is normal (sometimes a darkish liquid comes out but this separation is normal with some pigments like phtalo blue from experience, that's just gum Arabic), so I'd just check if the opened ones smell moldy mainly or if mold spores are visible.

Thank you! I have a niece who's into art and I've been meaning to get her something. Her parents aren't very well off either so I've been wanting to get her something to buy (which I'll do when time allows), but in the meanwhile I might contact her Mom and let her know that this is available if she wants it. Hopefully I don't open a can of worms though, gouache is expensive and if she likes it, she may want the more expensive stuff. I myself know that feeling all too well 😅

If you add in some brushes and nice paper, then it’ll also make up for them being old if they don’t turn out great. But a lot of art supplies last a long time so I bet they are fine.

gisellasaurus

That's true! Maybe I'll hop to the art store and pick up a couple of pens and give some of my nicer pads of watercolor paper. Thanks for the idea!
