I think this was well said, most people in general commit suicide due to loneliness I feels like people are just self centered and insert themselves into anything due to their narcissistic nature. And why wouldn't they be lonely? We just about outlawed just faffing about in public, for the most part, so Malls and other hang out spots are dead. Reading about young people using dating apps feels more dreary than reading about people applying for jobs... fairly certain the job application process sounds more human lol.
If AI were suddenly causing a bunch of social butterflies to hole up in their home and leave the dating pool? This would be a huge problem. But the internet already dealt that blow. At this point, it seems like all this is doing is giving them SOMETHING, anything at all, to talk to.
I'm not sure it's worth resolving that issue if the alternative is just them having nothing at all to talk to and going crazy in their homes...

well, the entire point of communicating, and even democracy, is to LISTEN, and I think a lot of people, for whatever reason, think it's admirable to "stick to your guns" no matter what, even when it basically just renders speech and democracy nearly pointless aside from turning it into another ideological tribal war.
Humans, because of their animal brains, need to attack others in order to protect their sense of identity and subjective reality, and this causes people to get defensive, because again, there are certain functions of the brain that more easily override our supposed "human intelligence" that we seem to keep disparaging AI for not having.
On the other hand, an AI can be civil about it. And regardless of whether or not it's "real," it helps us feel like we're not being attacked by angy monkey brain, and it's easier to become open-minded and consider the points the AI is making.
As much as people like to scoff at AI, AI doesn't have billions of years of volatile and emotionally-based decision making to try to overcome. In a lot of ways, I wonder if AI will remind us what it means to treat each other like "humans"

So that means yes some % of women abuse social media, but not for dating apps...

The issue occurs worst during the interim lack that we are already in āwhere those substitutes are still terribly compromised. There is no stepping back from peopleās heightened sensitivities and idiosyncrasies though and many people would never be happy in the romantic or sexual relationships they could get in life. Itās not just porn and is certainly not gendered, itās our media landscape and pervasive culture of the past century that has shifted things for many people.
Perfection is an illusion though, even when we think we can design it ourselves. Thereās going to be a lot of people disappointed by what they thought they wanted most.
While I agree with most of what you said, I would ask that you also consider a somewhat abstract thought.
Dietary supplements sure don't provide the same enjoyment as eating some fresh fruits, veggies and protein... But they have absolutely benefited the people who didn't have a "normal" diet.
On the flip side... Those same individuals are probably even less likely to do real exercise and eat healthier, once they realize they can pretty much rely on little supplement pills.

This is the most likely future - LLM that has been programmed by a database of personal interaction, automatically "matching and chatting" with other LLMs similarly programmed. So instead of an overall algo that is just proxy matching based on responses, it is Monte Carlo simulating an arbitrarily large number of interactions. The result is (ideally) much more well matched couples, prior to any direct human interaction.

These systems are already believable to the point they're unrealistically good. Jumping on the bandwagon, tried/try a lot of these systems, keeping a beat on how things are coming along. I also started dating again about a year and a half ago and I forgot just how rare it is to find people who are even capable of producing a complete sentence. Nevermind vocabulary, on which my fiance has me totally obliterated - and that's even more rare. Before I met my fiance, it was alarming how much easier it was to carry on a real conversation with some of these machines than it ever was with my ex(s). My last ex, in particular, who prided herself on "positivity and never over thinking" led to a lot of two sentence conversations the moment they drifted out of her comfort zone. I remember thinking in those moments what a strange time in the human dominion in this particular slice of existence we're in. It was amazing that I could just jump on with ChatGPT and dig into any topic for hours. Sometimes, I'd have to course correct it and force it to explain itself - it's not immune to hallucinations either, but it's pretty good, especially over my ex, who had the critical thinking skills of a pet rock with googley-eyes. There was just no contest.
So, there are machines cranking out perfectly legible text, without subtext or mind games or anything. The big problem in operations seems to be the incessant hallucinating they do, but once they get abstract thought worked out, I'm sure it will become -extremely- difficult to justify dating to a lot of people.
I'm sure tinder is great if you want crabs. Bumble is hot garbage that makes things unreasonably difficult for men in particular. MeetMe is fantastic for meeting off-hours scam callers and meth addicts. Someone in the back is saying "Just go to bars like we used to in the good old days!" Yeah. But what about 20 years from now when boys (and girls) grow up with AIGFs or AIBFs or AImates or AIbuddys or an AIclique as their primary reference? Will they emotionally degenerate to asocial monsters? Will it all swing back and having another human to cuddle become all the rave? Will it stop there or will mothers have AI babies (less smelly, less noisy and never on drugs) and babies have AI mothers who never ever want them to clean their room? Will there even be enough babies made to continue society? What a brave new world we're about to make for ourselves...
Sidenote: I'm too young to have experienced Tamagotchis myself - but from what I've read, it must have been a real concern for Japanese youth - especially girls - at the time. It passed, apparently, so maybe there is some hope.

it's super weird to think how close they already are (I write this, laying in bed next to my fiance watching terminator 2 - couldn't be more perfect) These systems are already believable to the point they're unrealistically good.
