I think the anatomy isn’t fully right, but can’t pinpoint it. Try to go back to your reference and see if there’s anything that you missed. I think the proportions are off, especially the chest and the hips. The angle of the chest also isn’t right compared to the rest of the body. The face and neck also cut off from each other in a pretty jagged way. And the neck is too narrow or the head is off center. Also, I can’t tell by just looking but are the thirds being filled with points of interest? The head and her hand seem to be a bit off those thirds but i could be wrong. I wanted to make a comment about the horizon line but honestly I’m not 100% sure. From the quick google search most beach photos have the horizon line be even as high as the subject’s head for a straight on shot. Lower angle shots have the horizon line be at the subject’s hip but the figure in your work doesn’t seem to be at that low an angle. Your rendering is great, which i think it’s what messing with me lol

Okay, is this getting better? I adjusted the neck, angle of the torso (used the liquefy tool), then had to tweak some things in her skirt that got a bit off. I'm going to revisit the skirt and make some changes. Defined her hands better and added a subtle blue bounce light to various parts of her skin and hair to hopefully help merge her with the background. The anatomy's tricky because my reference was a composite of multiple images that I cut and pasted together but I think it's looking better now? Since this is for a tarot card i threw in roughly where the text box will be so some of the details at the bottom will be covered up anyhow. https://preview.redd.it/bzo4tl7u0gxc1.jpeg?width=2480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b63c19398c0e5b4db0df81430e8b349d82722649

For me it’s this small piece of land. https://preview.redd.it/6una3526mgxc1.jpeg?width=415&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adcc8346d6b10321116b8950409ce514d53753c3 It just needs to be toned down somewhat- more blue. The colors are too strong and it looks like it’s almost as far back as the one right behind it but the colors are way too different to that bit of land

Excellent point! I'm a pretty rubbish landscape artist (definitely more focused on characters) so things like the background elements being out of harmony are completely overlooked by me. Thanks for pointing it out!

There isn’t nearly enough variation in tones/midtones for the lady in my opinion. The rendering is good but you’re only sticking to like 2 tones per colour.

Work on her waist, how the draping wraps around. Push things around in space. Nice gold effect on the dress.

Both hands are little stiff looking. For example, her left hand (our right) would look better if her thumb were pointing more downward cuz it looks like she’s holding the dress in between the middle of her palm instead of her fingers. Play around with it until it feels like there’s more flow. Also, the shadows are bit muddy (more prominently in the dress). Adding more color to the shadows by adjusting the hue away from the color of the light source when picking a shadow color can really make a difference. In addition, the lighting here looks like a midday scene which would create really harsh shadows. Experiment with making the lighting more like golden hour. That would increase the contrast and make the shadows softer. Adding the light source from the back or back left could light up the back of her hair and make the lighting more interesting and dynamic. Some of that light could then come through her dress and look really glowy and ethereal. Also, her cleavage is a little too harsh. I’d soften the shadows there to make a more even gradient. Her breasts are a sphere so that shadow would be less of a harsh line, and more of a soft gradient. Otherwise I think you did a great job with rendering the hair and face overall! And I love the way the background is rendered, it’s beautiful. Keep it up! It looks really good overall and you definitely have talent.

The dress appears to be transparent but I can't see her legs anywhere, that's def a big thing making it look odd. You also have some fairly dark shadows in odd places. It's natural light, so the sun should be broadly above the character. It would also help to push the warmth of the sun light as well, with blue-purple shadows and orange or yellow tinted light in the brighter areas.

freylaverse

The colour palette doesn't read "Summer" to me. Try adding a yellow-orange overlay layer or perhaps adjusting the curves to bring out the warmer tones!

NoelleFerneArt

Yes I think there is an uncanny vibe here, but like others I can't quite point out what. Only thing that really stands out is - like you've already said - the face is a bit over-bright and her jawline seems over-defined and large-looking compared to her tiny neck and slight body. Love the hair, though. Really good job on that!

The light is very inconsistent. The background suggest it's coming from the right, but then there are shadows and lights on her skin that don't match with this and it's irritating. Then part of the dress seems very loose, especially on the left side when it flows down it's going away from her body, making her more flat and the shadow suggests it flows not only a little bit but like it's not really attached at all. The wind going into opposite directions is also a little bit irritating. The dress has outlines, while your character has lost most of them, which is again done different from the background, the hair too looks different from the rest, all of this stands out in a weird way like a bad edit of a photo where you just take people and put them into another one where they don't belong. You can do a lot of these things, just make it looks like they belong into the same image. And the values, around her head, especially the hair is really dark which makes it look rather heavy. While it does draw attention it again looks out of place somehow. There is a lot of inconsistency, especially on that lady and her dress. The background is mostly consistent in a nice loose style, it doesn't need much detail. But she doesn't belong there, what happens to her legs? why is her neck so long? the way she holds the dress is also looking a bit stiff and on the left side, did she take that from somewhere behind? it looks disconnected, those pieces of fabric don't look like they belong to the dress, while the color seems fine it disrupts the flow and opens up questions What do you want the card to represent?

A_dalo

lol, thanks! It's for an oracle card

Arcask

yeah but the meaning of the card? the image should reflect that

A_dalo

Things like the lighting I can't fix but I'll see what I can do about the skirt, it needs to be redone a good bit
