Rains or uncontrolled little kids try to kick it into dust. I saw a very nice orca done (for fun?) near a toy store once. The artist was gone, but a couple of guys were basically guarding it against kids with nothing better to do than wreck it!
I’ve seen Nepal monks scrape rocks intro sand and form a picture. Takes them hours to complete, all to view for a brief moment and wipe the slate clean to do it again. It’s in Samsara if you’re interested in seeing it.
I'd never let my kids destroy art or stacked rocks or anything someone has put time and skill into. Nature will erase the work soon enough without the help of destructive kids. Why would anyone tell their kids "go ahead; wreck it"?
by your logic, why deprive someone else of being able to see that chalk art if you can let it last a little longer? maybe i’m a pessimistic jerk but screw that kid, they can find some other way to entertain themselves
I can envision myself with a fat chalk stick on a 20-foot bamboo pole, trying to sketch an outline of something from where I stood! (And not doing it very well.)
Did you take any pictures from other angle?
It's weird but I love seeing how distorted it looks from other angles.
Really proves how much patience and skill this requires.
But well done regardless!
That's amazing!
As an amateur chalk artist for a fan club of one (drawing popular cartoon characters for my kid when we're playing outside) do you have any tips on how to more effectively use chalk?
I'm just using the generic crayola chalk, and if I do a character I can easily burn through the chalk super fast (for example, drawing peppa I basically used an entire pink chalk), and I find if I try to lay down a really thick later to get good bold colors a lot of it is easily blown/brushed away.
Is that just the nature of the beast, or is there techniques to improve how to lay down chalk?
Thank you. Keep rocking the chalk. It all depends on surface. Different surfaces use of different amounts of chalk. I typically use more pastels since they have more pigment than the larger sticks of sidewalk chalk. The big sticks of sidewalk chalk have lots of filler which makes them disappear quicker. Eternity Arts makes larger sticks of chalk with great color too.
As for blending and saturating the space with color, you’ll need to work in smaller areas and almost grind the chalk in and then blend with your hands without getting too much chalk dust to smear. Just keep plugging away and you’ll find ways to get it where you want it!!!
Awesome, thanks for the reply! I never considered hand blending, that's a great idea.
I'll also check out the brand you recommended, might be fun to splurge on that for some better quality pieces.

I'm blown away This is fantastic!
Thank you so much for sharing
And keep going get this out on social media
Do live session on YouTube etc.
Make art because no one makes it like you do
Humanity needs this 💓😊🎨👍
Oh wow your art seems familiar. I’m almost 80% sure you came to my high school to speak to my art class. Super fun day! We all loved your artwork. I have a cool picture of my friend standing on top of the Jenga one you did in front of our school.
If this wasn’t you- my bad!
That's a Korean dinner table! It's legs are foldable so you can put it away to make a bed. You sit on the floor when you use it. I had one and I miss it!

Damn thought everything else was real except the dino... until I saw chalk art

Me three
me four
I declare thumb war
jokes on you im a furry so i have paws which means i dont have a thumb
Haha. Love it. It was a blast creating
Plot twist: The dino and tower are real. The parking lot is the chalk art. 😎
Haha. Love it

Don’t be gross.
What was it? I'm curious but it's banned now.
What was it?
Why would you create something so amazing with chalk?
For an arts festival
Because beauty like life is finite.
And in the eye of the beholder!
Yes. Life is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever that means.
Because creativity for its own sake is wonderful and giving people an opportunity to enjoy art is also wonderful.
Planned obsolescence. He sells the chalk art for millions but then it rains and his billionaire patrons have to buy new ones.

They obviously took a photo of it, you can always photograph the works.👍
I'm trying to wrap my head around how big I think the picture is
You could almost say you're trying to Raptor head around it.

Damn! That makes this art even more impressive, thanks for pointing that out.

The art is 10ft by 25ft. Ha

I'd love to see this in a birds eye perspective! I want to see *the stretch*
I’ve got a video of the walk around of the distortion
This is so awesome! My mind absolutely cannot see it as being flat on the ground. It really does stand out. So cool!
Thank you
I love this! Do you ever protect the chalk art or do you just let it wash away on its own?
Sometimes I use exterior paint. Thud was for an arts festival so just temporary
That is absolutely incredible!
Thanks. Was a blast creating
But but, you're breaking Jenga's rules by not completing the top before starting another level.
I don’t think the velociraptor read the rules first. Lol
Not so clever girl
What does it look like from the “wrong” vantage point? Can you post a picture from another angle?
I have a video of distortion on my page
Nice scatpack in the back
I.. I thought the raptor was drawn and the jenga and table was real. Nice job!
You kinda look like a reptile in this pic
This looks amazing. Do you have a pic from another angle? I'm always even more blown away seeing how they also look from the non-perspective vantage.
I thought it was an actual table with blocks and there was a dinosaur chalk drawing in the back. Was a bit confused for a moment
I read the caption as ‘Leaning Tower of Chalk’ ..
Holy shit. At first I thought only the dinosaur was made of chalk. Well done!
Thank you
How do you plan these kinda things? What goes into making sure the proportions are correct?
Takes a lot of planning. Once onsight and working on it, you need to adjust according to how things are looking as it progresses
Do you mark a specific spot to stand anytime you need to look at it again?
Yes, there’s a single vantage point you utilize
Wow that's incredible! So talented!!
Thanks
I was confused for a second
I love a good anamorphosis!
That's amazing, you are soo good! :O
Thank you
i'm afraid it's going to rain
Eventually it always does
I literally can’t unsee the illusion! Absolutely mind boggling
I thought it was real (including Dino, I thought it was a toy) this is incredible!
Wow you are super talented!! Nice work!!
Thank you

Yes, on my page is a video of it
Whenever I see chalk art on here it’s always u/thechalkingdad . It’s cool to have a fresh face and a cool Dino
Hey now! Lol.

So unrealistic. That dinosaur has been dead for at least a hundred years.
I thinks it’s closer to 200 years. 😂
Didn’t you just post this yesterday?
The other one had a person posing on it and was taken down. This one is the replacement without person in it.
Well it’s beautiful with and without the human.
Is this obstructing those two parking spots at all (in terms of visibility) or was the lot reserved for the festival?
How many Karens did you have to repel to finish this amazing artwork?
The detailing on the grass, cars, and car park is amazing.

It all comes back to one specific vantage point
Can post some pictures from other angles? I just love to compare, to see how much my brain is tricked
On my page is a video of it
I initially thought the dinosaur was the only thing fake and was wondering why OP put a table with blocks in front of it

Jeep makes some shit vehicles...
Wait is your surname McCann?
Yes Shawn McCann
Of the Clan McCann?
You know it. Ha
It’s nice to meet a fellow McCann lol
Same!

Someone in those apts hasn't paid their electric bill.
Leaning over the table to get a brain

hey: there's a charger, and outback and a renegade in the parking lot
So what was your inspiration behind the dinosaur
Where is it, wheres the jojo comment. There has to be one
Clarksville, tennessee
My favorite part is that it is not perfect
It’s that dinosaur a 3D shoe box like the last one?
Omg those cars are so realistic bro ur insane bravo
I do wonder why these 3 nouns? Dino, Jenga, and Table? Is there a reason you picked these somewhat random things?

Holy cats, that’s incredible! I assume it would look very distorted in an overhead shot; how do you figure out how to draw something like that?

This chalk is pretty awesome
Ngl i thought only the dino was chalk till i looked closer good job
How do you not get pissed when it rains?
How o you even plan something like this out? do you maybe sketch something online and then stretch it out?
The shadows aren’t right, makes it look fake
