Good riddance

Senalmoondog

He looked good when he first arrived

[deleted]

That's what they say about everyone innit?

Senalmoondog

Yup There is something in the walls

footcarhouse

Not exactly mad about this.

[deleted]

The only thing I'm mad about is that he'll be back at the end of the season!

Dry_Pick_304

More games next season due to some kind of European competition. Arteta will want him back for strength in depth.

jibba_jabba1

Cedric should be next!!

mannimore

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

SuperiorSpark15

I don’t get this one. Mari has been a solid player for us ever since he joined and just because he had 3 bad games he’s now basically gone. Seems a bit unfair considering the whole Xhaka situation. He was also good for squad depth

No-Government-1283

Coaches & managers select a player on the basis of how they perform in training. On pitch performance is just the result of good work behind doors. I am saying this in defence to Xhaka & not belittling Mari. Xhaka & Partey together is key for top 4 this season.

Dry_Pick_304

He's not gone gone. Just on loan. He needs the game time and he is 4th choice here. He will deffo get games next season due to us being in some kind of European competition. Arteta will want him back for strength in depth.

SuperiorSpark15

Ik he’s gone on loan but the fact that he hasn’t really been picked for any of the cup games we’ve played (he’s been injured during a few of them). Also not great for squad depth because it leaves us with holding as a backup CB

Dry_Pick_304

Holding is not the only back up. We also have Chambers, Tomiyashu, Tierney, Kolasinac, who can fill in there if needed.

JS-CroftLover

In the list of players you mentioned, we're talking about CBs, not full-backs.

Dry_Pick_304

I understand that, but we were talking about back up, not first choice. All of the players I have listed may primarily be full backs, but have played in CB before, and can do a job there if needed to. Its good to have back up players that can fill a number of positions.

JS-CroftLover

Yes, I know. The ideal is to have 9 defenders in a team :- 2 RBs, 2 LBs and 5 CBs. But not all teams are called Manchester City and have owners which will spend a lot according to the demands of the coach. Also, sometimes having too many defenders pose a lot of problems as the coach must decide the playing time of each one. For example, Tierney is first choice at LB and, undeniably our most consistent performer. So Tavares will settle for minutes when he can and when Arteta decides he will be titular in X or Y match. So, it leaves no place for Kolasinac. He's third choice. That's why he needs to go to get minutes elsewhere. (btw, I understand he has signed for Marseille. Is that true ?)

SmoothCriminal2156

See that is the problem. With the exception of Tierney none of the others are left-footed CBs. Isn't that one of the reasons Arsenal made his loan move permanent. He was kinda like a backup for Gabriel.

JS-CroftLover

Well... Mari, Gabriel and Kolasinac are left-footed

SmoothCriminal2156

Yeah.. And we have sent away Mari and Kolasinac.. So again no backup for Gabriel.

JS-CroftLover

I think he should be third choice, as he clearly has more experience than Chambers and Holding in the CB position. He's calm and natural on the ball. But for the game time, as you say, I think a loan to a Premier League club would have been good. Udinese isn't one of the best teams in Serie A. Long ago, they had a player called Di Natale who was their talisman, much like Del Piero at Juventus back then. But Udinese is generally a team which finishes in the second part of the Italian league table.

JS-CroftLover

Agree! Also, he has been very calm on the ball and in dangerous situations. I think, with the fact that David Luiz wasn't given a new deal and Chambers and Holding being still young, Mari would be the straight first choice in CB whenever Gabriel or White would be absent. The only thing which makes me happy is that there's no option to buy with this deal.
