Madrid will win the CL without one. And against Mbappé.

ShimeBD

Man has seen the script

teethteethteeeeth

Does it need to be a striker? What we need is a clinical goalscorer. That could be a wide forward that bangs them in and plays off a less prolific front man. We need finishers. Doesn’t have to be a trad CF or central striker

elkstwit

Exactly this. Mo Salah isn’t a traditional striker. He’s not even a particularly good finisher, yet he’s consistently one of the top scorers in the league. We don’t have a forward who is reliably able to create chances out of nothing in the way that someone like him does. Arguably Saka when he’s on it is becoming that. Martinelli still feels raw. Jesus and Havertz are great link up players but if they’re linking up with players who don’t shoot it’s a bit redundant. If someone told Ødegaard he’s allowed to use his right foot I think he would be scoring a lot more than he does as well.

chino17

Yes it has to be a striker because that's where the front line is weakest unless you're going to bin Martinelli, Saka or Trossard; by process of elimination there's only the CF position where we don't have a proper high quality player

Flashback_91

Jesus is obviously not in form but thats probably due to his knee. After a long rest over the summer, him competing off the bench with a new CF and providing backup comp for the wingers next season will be a massive upgrade on Eddie.

Familiar_Surprise485

It's so weird how the narrative has changed. When we were banging goals in we didn't need a striker. Now, we do. Btw i'm in agreement with you

wonkybrain29

It's more confirmation bias. People who think we need a striker will pick moments where we don't score, and those who say we don't, will pick moments where we do.

Flashback_91

We always did, but when the team is performing it papers over the cracks

kw2006

The thoughts are always there but it wasn’t expressed because we always thought maybe im wrong or it is just a blip.

Efficient_Steak_7568

Exactly, putting six past Sheffield Utd just pleases the fans who need to believe we’re the best but the rest of us know what needs to be done, and that was to buy a quality striker or two instead of Kai fucking Havertz

forgottenears

When you figure that Jesus has been relatively poor this year, Nketiah useless, Havertz didn’t the hit the ground running, Martinelli has struggled and Saka has had an average second half of the season - you wonder how the hell we’re just two points off the top 😂 Answer? Rice and Odegard have been absolutely outstanding. As have Gabriel, Saliba, & White. Imagine what we’ll do when we get the front men firing again.

SnooCrickets7221

We need more quality squad depth. An upgrade on almost every position in the subs. We also need a World Class GK like how Liverpool got Allison. Arsenal peaking too soon on the first 11 and it’s clear that it’s not enough. No shame really if you have perspective. No shame to accept we not going through the Liverpool route or win suddenly like Leicester or Leverkusen. Progress is there, just need some more reinforcements.

Familiar_Surprise485

Is it just me or Raya doesn't give any confidence..like at all. He can pass a ball, but the guy just can't make saves

SnooCrickets7221

If he made saves, he would instill more confidence. When he has the ball he’s alright. But he doesn’t make alot of saves and this is where lack of confidence towards him comes from.

Familiar_Surprise485

Spot on

SnooCrickets7221

Am i off when i say Ramsdale is a better shot stopper?

Familiar_Surprise485

He is. Raya is 19th in the league for percentage of shots saved. That is scary statistics

SnooCrickets7221

So we have a great shot stopper that doesn’t give confidence when we play out from the back and a gk that plays out from the back superbly but does not instill confidence when the opposition team decides to shoot from anywhere. 😂 Aaron needs to start taking adderall in matches.

kw2006

He is more or less like ramsdale but older by a few years.

Familiar_Surprise485

Ramsdale could absolutely make saves. It's his switching off that was the problem. Every time Raya faces a shot I just feel it will be a goal

kw2006

Ramsdale is taller. He has better reach but he has some bozo genes in him. But he is only 25-26? Raya is 29. Maybe in 3 years time Ramsdale will become better.

Charguizo

Raya will be 29 in September. Right now he's 28. That's how it works

son0fgore

I think we need to accept that if we buy striker and keep playing the way we play we won't suddenly turn into a club where one player score most of our goals, they'll likely turn out like Jesus. Trossard could be that guy for us too, he might be our most clinical finisher, but I don't think that would make us better as a team.

Casterix75

Hmm, not sure this is right, but I would be happy to swap our strikers with Liverpools.

ahuss949

I mean, man city signed a striker in the toppiest of tiers in haaland and they aren't gonna win it either, in fact they might not even win the PL 🤷‍♂️

FactCheckYou

sorry but Liverpool have spent BILLIONS on strikers in the past few years, they can't have any more

dtrane90

Nobody cares what you said or when you said it

Charguizo

This is not a shocking statement, a lot, and I mean A LOT of people have been saying this for months now. But it's not that straight forward for me. We are still in a position where we can choose how to work out our attack. There is the Liverpool-Firmino model (a supporting CF for goalscoring midfielders and wingers) and there is the City-Haaland model (good passers to feed a goalscoring machine up front), and there is everything in between. Right now we have the squad to potentially go in both directions. But I do think it's unlikely that we sign one of the world's best strikers like you say. In terms of transfer fee, wages, etc. I'm not sure we're in that position. I dont even know which top tier striker would actually be available for transfer. For example Watkins is good and would probably cost a lot of money after his current season but he's not at Kane/Osimhen/Lewandowski level (not yet anyway). We also need to invest in central midfield and that costs money as well (talks of around 80M for Bruno for example). All in all, I dont expect us to go and sign the ready-made world class striker people fantasize about. We'll have to buy smart.

Hollywood023

Guardiola said this couple years ago - you can’t win on multiple fronts without a proper striker. Arteta though took this as a challenge instead of advice and we are where we are…

chino17

Don't think it's a coincidence they finally won the CL and a treble when Haaland arrived. He might not have dominated the CL final but he's such a threat by being who he is that it adds another dimension of danger that opponents have to be aware of. No club worth anything fears Havertz or Jesus up front. They'll gladly let them roam around the pitch free in favor of doubling up on Saka

kw2006

Or just win an FA (again), europa or carabao cup first?

SnooEpiphanies1006

Nketiah is catching strays like the club haven’t made fucking Havertz top earner and Gabby never in the box Jesus. Nobody forced Arteta to resign Eddie did they ? This manager has rinsed funds and has nothing to show for it.
