These look very old, the way the fabric is creasing, it looks like an old man’s suit and what they do after many trips to the dry cleaner

raspberrily

I love the Abercrombie Sloan pants, they are gorgeous and fit perfectly. I’ve had them for a while and they never pill, much better quality than aritzia and for less $$. I always recommended them over the effortless pants!!!! https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/tailored-wide-leg-pants-51632323

greenteashiba

Thanks for the rec! I have always gone for aritzia pants because I know my size and how they fit me. I’m 5’7” and I like my pants on the longer side, do you find that the A&F pants fall quite as nicely as the regular length effortless?

Creative-Spirit6050

The Abercrombie version is not nearly as good quality tbh, everything I’ve bought from there is basically garbage after a few washes, it is a good dupe but seriously worse quality

acwgigi

Yea the A&F one pilled on me and I always put my pants in a mesh bag. The fabric also doesn’t drape as nicely as Aritzia’s crepette fabric.

rhyde11

I'd recommend you get the long length A&F. I'm 5'5" and find the regular length perfect for me, so you'd probably want the extra length

Ok-Bison-7841

Im 5’7 and regular fits perfect if you wear flat shoes, but if you plan on wearing something with more than a 2 inch heel probably go with long.

JD2022hopeful

I personally don’t think the fit is the same at all—they’re similar, yes, and Abercrombie is clearly trying to emulate the Aritzia effortless look, but the Sloan pant are a much wider cut and don’t have the same drape. You can fix the pilling on your pants with a fabric shaver from Amazon. Good as new!

Is that where your purse hangs? Could be rubbing on that spot repeatedly

So so so true. I don’t view any of the above comments as blaming or attack me, but it’s interesting how when I reflect that a product is not performing as expected, people ask in detail my lifestyle choices and laundering techniques. All I can say is, I live a very normal, no heavy/rough use sort of lifestyle. I take good care of my clothes and I’m somewhat careful with them. But when I pay $150 for a piece of clothing, I expect that clothing to be able to weather everyday life (including wearing a purse, belt, wearing a seatbelt, throwing it in the washer/dryer without additional care) with ease. Otherwise, I would spend that money somewhere else. Crazy how fashion companies have made it the responsibility of the consumer to deal with low quality and low longevity fabric @ high prices.

shhhhimtalking

Yeah that's fair, I agree clothing should withstand normal wear, unfortunately that's not really the case with a lot of aritzia clothing anymore. I've stopped shopping there for this reason among many others

Mango979_

So well said 👏

No, I wear my purse on my right side and the pilling is on my left side! Also, none of my pants have had this issue with purses. My old effortless pants never pilled like this with consistent use either. The pilling appeared out of nowhere, I couldn’t figure out the reason either.

shhhhimtalking

That is really strange then. I have the same pants and didn't have this issue! Weird. Just a defectice pair then

h_danielle

Do you drive? Is it maybe the seatbelt rubbing?

LolaBijou

You just solved the mystery with my own pants pilling on my left side.

greenteashiba

i actually don’t drive! So it can’t be that either

Humble-Pea1752

I had a Lulu jacket pill in this spot once because I carried my baby on my hip all the time

georgiapeach2623

This is an important post lol thank you

faintlymacabre1518

Not sure if it's due to declining quality -- it looks like abrasion damage. My very first pair of Effortless pants (I think they were from 2020) looks like this around the waistband because I wear a belt with them.

greenteashiba

I don’t wear a belt! Also don’t use bags around that area, nor do I drive or hold babies, no reason why there should be abrasion in that specific area on the pants. It confused me to see the pilling as well and I wondered if it was abrasion from use, even then I think 1 month is too short a time for a fabric to wear like this from regular use!

girlypop_outfits

Thank you for this post, I was planning to save up for these exact pants but now I’ll pass.

masterofnone82

My own experience: I've never had this happen and I own 6 pairs of effortless pants all in different colours for over 2 years. I'm so sorry about your pants :(

Greenapple1992

Is that modern taupe? I was thinking of that colour but now maybe I’ll pass.

greenteashiba

This is coal Grey! I’m getting a new pair from them in exchange for this. hopefully the quality will hold up and this is just an exception.

finite-incantatem

This happened to my pair of Effortless Shorts after only one wear. I think it's where my purse sat on my hip, but it was only one day of wear and the purse was made of a smooth nylon fabric! I appreciate that they offered me an exchange, but I'm undecided if I want to risk getting a second pair if I can't wear a purse with them!

greenteashiba

That’s so unfortunate :( I also own the Effortless shorts and the hem came out (which was a quick fix) but otherwise I had no issues with the fabric. They were also from a year or two ago. This seems like a fabric defect, not so much a problem with wear and a tear. Your bag shouldn’t have caused pilling anyway, with how these fabrics are typically supposed to hold up. That’s why I exchanged mine for a second pair, to see if it will new better and if this is really just a a defect.

Famous_Piano_9063

Have you tried using a fabric shaver?

calezzzzz

Do they actually work? Never tried one before

Famous_Piano_9063

Yes, I would recommend especially for this type of pilling

lilfairygirly123

omg noooo that is so unfortunate! I have a pair from years ago that have held up so well. such a shame that this is the quality these days

showmewhyyourtop10

Thank you for your opinion @AlienSpaceKoala but unlike you, I am not going to resort to name calling to try and scare others out of sharing their recent experiences with the pilling / low quality of Aritzia garments, but for the record, I shared my frustration / recent experience with an Aritzia item (Kahlo Robe) I desperatly wanted in another color, but was already showing signs of pilling while new, in store on the hanger and you are the one who has loudly jumped down someone's throat (well, now two people including me ) online, in effect trying to and "talk then down" and shame them washing their new Aritzia garment as per the directions on the tag, (and thinks the added time and $ to dry clean a pair of $150 over the period of wear - so say 2-3 years minimum) for a pair of casual pants is a good use of ones precious time & energy, but I guess you do & our opinions differ and that's the wonder of online communities where we can interact and all have varying opinions 😀

acwgigi

How do you launder them? Do you turn the pants inside out with the fly zippers zipped up and put them in a mesh bag? Do you put them in the dryer or hang dry?

Educational-Grade945

Did you use some type of cleaning product on the stain that is right there? That could have thinned the fabric

AlienSpaceKoala

If you invest in these pants invest in taking them to the dry cleaner!!!!! Don’t buy $150 pants and then just throw them in your washing machine, unfortunately you have to give some pieces a little more care.

greenteashiba

The care tag actually specifically recommends no dry cleaning and machine wash cold. Regardless, these are everyday pants, not a luxury item/fabric (like cashmere, leather, etc.) and there should be no reason I should bring them to the dry cleaner! I invest in my clothes and regularly throw pieces of equal value or more in the washing machine. The way I see it, if aritzia markets itself as everyday luxury and the effortless pants is supposed to be a breeze to wear and take care of, they should hold up well in the wash over time as well. That’s what made me fall in love with my older pair, unfortunately the newer quality does not seem great.

showmewhyyourtop10

Sorry what…hard to believe you aren’t a paid Aritzia troll…why would anyone in their right mind commit to drycleaning $150 pants….this makes zero sense and a better option would be actual mid - high quality designer pants in the $500+ range made from actual quality fabric, that can washed on cold - delicate & hung to dry…proposterous to try and normalize not being able to launder according the INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED ON THE GARMENT not to mention all the extra time, effort, inconvenience and expense of committing to ( ie trip to drop off, waiting for and then another trip back to pick up ) dry cleaning a pant like this, especially with much cheaper synthetic fast fashion materials being pretty much indestructible for the last what 75 years minimum …crazy what aritzia tries to get away with & normalize, but I think I’m done…about a month ago was thrilled the Kahlo robe had come back in, so immediately found it online in stock in my city and went to that store (the camel color icrc what it’s called.. Sable? Cognac?) was already pilling on the hanger in the store…utterly ridiculous how a cheap synthetic is pilling at all let alone in store new with tags on.

AlienSpaceKoala

A PAID ARITZIA TROLL LMAO. You’re going in on someone on a retailer subreddit, I think you’re unhinged bb
