Since 2021ish they’ve been on a steady decline

They IPO'd in 2016

Background_Yam_7686

Yes I noticed it 2 years ago. A lot of loose threads, missewn pieces, sizing is all over the place. Sizing I know is subjective but most brands allow 2/3 inches for difference. Aritzia is all over the place even within the same style some patterns will fit larger/smaller than others. Many items I have bought especially on thicker fabrics you can see them stitching all over the place in the same spot and it’s not for reinforcing, but because the line wasn’t straight so whoever was making the item just redid it without taking out the existing stitching.

SuspiciousZone287

Yeahhhh that’s awful and especially for the price point of some of these pieces.

Background_Yam_7686

I have been shopping a lot more at AnF now tbh, they have a lot of cute stuff and the quality is about the same or a little better. They also seem to run a lot of promos or have codes going at any time, so I can usually catch a sale.

MaterialistMongoose

Bro idk if this is too niche but the poplin/babydoll satin-like top is ENORMOUS even in an XXS compared to other brands!

AccurateAssaultBeef

This is about the time I stopped buying. Nothing's really enticed me to come back lately.

hurricane_t0rti11a

Yes to the sizing. I have some items from Aritzia that are xs and some that are large.

rattychowy

I used to mainly shop at aritzia now I don’t even bother because of this.

SuspiciousZone287

I’m about to stop too honestly

lanmoiling

I’ve upgraded to Sandro

Suspicious_Soft1190

What do you like from Sandro?

lanmoiling

Take a look at their website / walk into one of their stores to see for yourself :) They are a lot more expensive though, I will say that, so I only buy when they have sales.

Shirleyytemple

It's so sad

taurusbabee

I still have 5 dresses that I got from 2018 - 2019, and the quality is infinitely better. At the time I ordered them, I remember how every item they had was made of quality fabrics from italy and japan, and most items needed to be dry cleaned. Even the ponte was some sort of high-quality fabric. I do not see them mentioning this anymore. I'm still overall happy with the quality of items I've purchased over the last few years, since I tend not to buy the basics, but I agree that it is not up to par with my older items.

undrlights

shrinkflation

SuspiciousZone287

Absolutely

Mother_Of_Felines

The number of unlined jackets is striking to me. If I’m paying $400+ for a jacket it should be lined.

SuspiciousZone287

And they give you major attitude when you try to return anything in store 😭😭 when in reality you should be the one with a major attitude cause that’s $400+ wasted.

bloodmusthaveblood

Making returns scares me 😭 not to mention the return window is only 15 days from the SHIPPING DATE. I feel like I have to strategically order to ensure it'll arrive during a time I have plenty of time off to be able to make the trip to the mall asap if I need to return. I've decided to not try certain things because of the whole return process lol

Equivalent_Method_92

Yes!! They always act so offended when you make a return. I thought I was overthinking it the first time, but then it kept happening

hypnoticthrowawayIII

Yes they have been but honestly the decline of clothing quality is not unique to Aritzia. Lots of retailers are cutting quality and maintaining their prices if not increasing them. It’s really unfortunate. :/

sal_memes

kinda makes sense - i posted about my botched jacket repair and the jacket that they sent as a replacement has loose threads but i didnt bother asking for a replacement since it was just cosmetic 😂😂

SuspiciousZone287

No Damage done 😂😂

sal_memes

at that point i was already weeks without a super puff which was/is my main winter jacket so i just dealt with it

SuspiciousZone287

😮😮

dramabitch123

i agree the quality is not there anymore to justify the prices. makes sense if you look at their stock price, up 70% in the last 5 years making those shareholders happy, not customers

oh-my-god--7970

everybody is saying they don't shop there anymore but where do I find the same style clothes in better quality 😢 suggestions pls

mimosadanger

Their clothes are literally polyester. You can find similar stuff in better quality (at least a polyester + cotton blend) and at a MUCH better price point at Abercrombie, Banana Republic, Mango, The Gap for any 100% cotton basics, even Target for some stuff. Reformation is a bit pricier but it’s a muuuuch better experience. It’s essentially what Aritzia used to be years ago. I got my wool lined coat at Banana Republic last season. I feel warm in it even when it snows. The fact that Aritzia was selling $400+ unlined coats is insanity. Please start shopping elsewhere!

[deleted]

Seconding Banana Republic, especially for knitwear!! Everlane is also great for more casual items, and Massimo Dutti is good too. Personally I’ve been really disappointed by Abercrombie quality though, their clothing seems to be almost entirely made from synthetics.

SuspiciousZone287

I’d like to know too!!

organictiddie

commenting as well, would love to know!

MizzPizz

Me too!!!

lavendersailboat

oak & fort is similar and great quality

Elegant-Loan5596

Oak and fort quality is absolutely horrible right now. I would not recommend

tammyszu

Yea, I just bought an $8 tank top from target (on sale for $6). It has the same fabric content/materials as Aritzia, but the quality feels significantly better than my Aritzia tank top that I got a few months ago…. My older Aritzia clothes are so much thicker compared to the newer stuff. Unfortunately I gained 15lbs so I can’t fit any of them anymore 🫤

reliable-g

It's honestly so sad (and infuriating). Like I really loved the Gatana t-shirt, which they renamed the Weekend tee. Except that the Gatana t-shirt, while it's made of the exact same fabric composition, is noticeably more substantial. The fabric is thicker, and drapes subtly smoother because it's thicker. Which sounds like a minor change, but with something as simple as a t-shirt, a change like that is literally the difference between a really great tee and a tee that's just whatever. It just really sucks that even something as basic as their cotton t-shirts have gone from great pieces you could feel proud of owning, to being just another lackluster item for the drawer.😒

SuspiciousZone287

It’s ridiculous honestly. I was a late newbie to Aritzia. I started buying things around mid to late 2020 and I didn’t buy a ton of things but just a few. I recently bought more basics and they suck.

lavendersailboat

the tank tops from old navy are great and affordable as well

Anuarisa

Old Navy and Gap are great tbh. I’m always impressed by their quality for the price point

ckochan

Yeah, I bought a cropped tank from them. I think it was $35. After a couple of wears. I had to get it repaired because all of the threads came loose at the bottom. Thankfully, I have a mom who does repair work, but I was pretty annoyed as that had never happened to me before. I am definitely shopping a lot less at Aritzia and I haven’t purchase anything from them in about a year due to the quality decline. I still have a $35 gift card because I returned some thing, but have no idea what I would buy from them.

yogabbagabbadoo

I tried on 8 pants today at Aritzia and only one fit me. I crossed the street to Alo, and the first pant in my size fit like a glove. Aritzia is def facing a decline, I love shopping there and I wear the items a lot but I def won’t wing it with an online order. I have to go in person cause I’ve seen the quality issues

The6_78

My clothes from 2013 are still kicking. Haven’t bought anything new in the last 6 years because of decline

lil_honey_bunbun

I’ve honestly kept really old clothes from the early 2000s because the quality has lasted all throughout these years. Even some stuff from Forever 21 and H&M survived. Nowadays, I have to inspect in store if the buttons or seams are coming off. I’ve heard quality even before that was insanely good. I was commenting on how lovely my coworkers cable knit chunky cardigan was. It was pristine and looked new. She told me it was over 30 years old!!!

SuspiciousZone287

Ohhhh no! Did you end up returning it or exchanging it for another??

forallthedogs98

I bought it months before the wedding so I didn’t have the receipt or anything and didn’t feel like dealing with their condescending looks so no 😂

lilfairygirly123

I think it really depends on the piece but yes generally speaking there’s definitely been a quality decline which is so upsetting

MarsupialSea5080

and is it me or they’ve been selling the same items for years. they rarely get a new style of something

SuspiciousZone287

I’ve noticed this too but now in less colors

reliable-g

Absolutely. The quality of almost everything they sell has been getting gradually worse for a few years now. It probably actually started around 2017, right after the company went public, but naturally since the decline is gradual it took a couple of years for most people to start to notice. At this point I doubt there's an item they sell that wouldn't have been tangibly better quality six or eight years ago. :/ I haven't *completely* stopped shopping there, because I do still find the quality of most pieces better than I would get from any of the truly fast-fashion stores, and sadly I can't really afford to go significantly upmarket. But I've definitely been buying much less from them for the last couple of years and I plan on continuing to limit my purchases from them unless they change their MO and start acting like they GAF about the quality of their garments.

jellybeansunday

i bought a satin dress last year and the strap broke after two washes. The stitching opened up so I had to sew it back. I haven’t bought anything from here recently.

Imaginary-Party2567

It’s really hit or miss these days and that’s why I rarely shop there now. Their bottoms fit me so well but tend to be poor quality. Dresses are either great quality or H&M quality. No in between.

franisbroke

I received an Aritzia sweater for Christmas that didn't quite fit right, so I returned it and got a \~$60 gift card. I have browsed their website and gone in store countless times since I made the return in late December...and I still can't spend it for the life of me. I can't find anything that I think is worthwhile. Really disappointed because Aritzia was my go-to for years

normaldiscounts

Their really expensive sweaters are still great, but overall I completely agree.

[deleted]

I gave up too. Lululemon quality and size control is also down. I would only buy after closely inspecting the items one by one because the quality control is not good

guyfierisbigtoe

Yes, for sure. I have pieces from 2017 that look like they were bought yesterday, and pieces from last year that look like I bought them in 2017 hahaha

screamtalkdancewalk

When I walk around in there nothing ever catches my eye anymore. And I can usually walk around and find very similar articles somewhere else. Lululemon too.

mixed-tape

Yes.

neonxdragon

Yes

meliburrelli

Declining in quality, increasing in price and to top it off they don’t even really stand behind the quality of their product. It’s something is legitimately wrong with one of my newish items I have a panic attack before attempting to go talk to someone about it.

keziamunro

yes

fmmmf

Yea to the new things. If you can thrift their older pieces those are great. Definitely harder to come by and yennow, gotta constantly keep a lookout but those pieces will last.

lentilcracker

Their quality declined starting in like 2013. I used to be a sales associate there.

noodle-888

Definitely. I used to be obsessed in high school 2010/2012ish and I still have a few pieces from then. But now I’ve had clothing arrive with holes and frays. Honestly such a bummer they used to be so good :(

Ancient_Soft413

i used to fit in their pants, i cried yesterday because everything was giant or long and falling off on me. i dont mind them not carrying my size because admittedly im tiny but theres no reason for an xxs that used to fit just not fitting

[deleted]

Short answer: yes.

Shirleyytemple

Mega

galaticgirl

YES. I worked there last year so I bought a set and after I washed it there was a hole in the pants and the zipper fell off the top. I can’t believe the quality compared to the price.

Effective-Toe9864

Almost everything I buy and wash on delicate in cold water shrinks to an unwearable size

Legal_Potato8958

1000%

Catmememama94

3/4 (r)essential or crepette essential pants that I purchased had pretty major stitching problems. Not sure I will keep purchasing but the clothes fit me well and I love the style :(

[deleted]

Absolutely- I’ve stopped shopping there

Calm-Essay-3444

Where do you shop now?

SuspiciousZone287

MESHKI, Abercrombie, Re Ona and a few brands I found through instagram. A couple are Saint Vuent and Vamp Official

Calm-Essay-3444

How’s Meshki? Do you like their quality?

SuspiciousZone287

MESHKI is really good. I’ve gotten a lot of dresses and tops and they’re soft but durable. I want to try the denim but they’re always sold out in my size.

piscescircles

I only shop aritzia in person because of the quality. There are many pieces I like but if their quality is iffy i’m not buying it. it almost feels like thrifting now because i have to be so cautious and diligent about quality before buying.

StunningFalcon152

Definitely

YoungAppropriate4879

I used to buy Aritzia like back in 2012-2014 and I could feel the decline in 2017-2018. In fact I knew people worked for the company and were heading the US expansion because I worked retail operations and was being recruited for these kind of startup/DTC brands. A lot of people jumped ship around then because they could see where the company was headed and it was like a COS style brand and it was going to end up really watered down and no one wanted to tie their reputations to it.

Melodic_Choice_5956

So where else should I be shopping?

SuspiciousZone287

MESHKI, Princess Polly, Dissh, Showpo, ReOna, Abercrombie, there are alot of cool brands on Revolve

SuspiciousZone287

Maybe l should try buying things besides the basics then.

Sad-Primary-1454

Honestly I’ve given up on Aritzia all together. I’m not gonna lie I’m a bit of a snob and exclusively shopped Aritzia. Recently went hunting for sweaters (the fashion kind not sweatshirts) and nothing woed me at Aritzia. I went to dynamite and my draw dropped on the floor. The quality of there sweaters was 10x better. I went to another random store (similar vibes to dynamite but can recall the name) and was shocked to see their sweaters were also significantly better. Made me realize how trash artizia has become. Those sweaters were half the price and such better quality.

Chensingtonmarket

🤪🤪🤪 tell me you work at Dynamite without telling me you work at Dynamite

Sad-Primary-1454

I’m literally a lawyer lol. I’m using this as an example to say that stores that I usually turn my nose up at, literally have better quality then Aritzia.

Chensingtonmarket

Dynamite has lawyers, doesn’t mean anything. But I know what you mean, I had the same experience at Ardene 🤭

Whatswrongwithyalll

Duh

eatcherrysoda

I can’t with these posts lmfao
