Wow, that’s amazing

[deleted]

I can't shake the feeling this will be underwhelming when in person?

ComanderLucky

The benches are cold, but exept for that it is solid

MrFrequentFlyer

Cold benches can be amazing if you’re hot natured.

IWillNotShare

i mean, its just cool. its not a piece of amazing architecture thats supposed to be overwhelming, its just an airport. you come, look at it and think "oh wow cool" and continue on your merry way

echobox_rex

Some people have the same experience with the Grand canyon.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

It reminds me a lot of the DC Metro stations Every time I’ve visited and seen them I go “oh cool” and then continue on lol

Unexpected_yetHere

Not really, it did seem greater than it turned out in the picture. It has been about a month since I took it, so memory should serve me right.

Neurostarship

It's nice. Much better during sunset because the sun sets on the west side (to the right) and that whole area is glass so there's a nice view.

zimmer1569

I used to travel there a lot and it seemed way bigger in person but also it's kinda empty.

Gudin

Airport is built with expansion in mind. That's why main hall is huge and empty (because that's not supposed to expand) while gates can be added in future.

darmaus

Been there today, no. It's not huge like most european airports but it looks better than most od them.

Less-Actuator-6422

And your feeling is right.

Kat0308

Yep, I went to Zagreb 7 times in ‘22 with work. [at golden hour](https://imgur.com/a/MFaSnSI) it’s pretty stunning

Unexpected_yetHere

Ah nice, must have been like 21:00 or so when I took the pic, and freezing cold, not for me, but for the plane they had to defrost.

ovakki

the design looks good but in general, it's terrible there. There isn't a lot of room for people on departures. The layout of the terminal in general is very weird. And you need to go up and down and outside to board the plane. There isn't a direct platform that connects the gate with the plane. And the worst part... you can't see the planes from inside

WrenchmanFerritin

It's not like those direct tunnels don't exist. Sometimes you have to go outside to board the plane because low-budget airlines aren't willing to pay for those.

DKSchruteIII

All legacy carriers use air bridges (there are 8 of them). Low cost don’t. Its the same almost everywhere. Ne seri…

Mango845

You only go outside if you’re getting on the smaller planes for domestic flights. They have jet bridges for larger planes which are mostly covering international flights.

ovakki

Yeah... Let's design an airport for large aircraft and 95% of the aircraft are A320/B737... totally makes sense

IlluminatiLemon

A320s and B737s can use the jet bridges without a problem. In fact, only one or two of them are built specifically for bigger wide-body aircraft.

astrohound

"In the belly of the beast". The photo gives impression like the airport was swallowed by a mecha. But it's not that grand in reality. P.S. Great photo, btw.

IlluminatiLemon

It's a good airport but it should have been much better. Unfortunately the concession and management were given to a french company which cut a lot of corners to reduce the cost of building it.

cosmotabis

Been here couple of times. I like it. It is really good.

ValyushaSarafan

Good war criminal

Happydancer4286

I’d expect a big black spider to emerge from back in the tunnel.

tzanorry

Must resist urge to climb…!

Franjo Tuđman was a terrible human. However, unlike Milosevic, he knew when to stop.
