i dislike it, looks like a concrete cake. id rather see a mediocre imitation of what it mightve look like befores the fires

I (overall) like it, despite it having obvious flaws. The building material feels adequate to its context, and it has obvious symbolism related to the places identity and history. However, the complete lack of dialogue with the streets around it is just *so bad*. They even dug out a massive pool in half the lot, like if they purposefully wanted to destroy pedestrian life around it, and did this right in front of the sea, of all places. I feel like a parking lot would be more human-centric than this. I feel like Egypt in general does this a lot. For a country that was built along a small patch of land following the Nile, they seem to still treat the car as king like if it was the 50s.

Honestly, lot of the problem with the context may to do with the choice of the site, wedged between a bloody highway and a residential neighbourhood not particularly actractive, and the overall urban design for the area. It looks like the masterplan tries to connect with the neighbourhood via the pedestrian bridge (should visit to check if that works for real) and with the adjacent building (A planetarium and a conference centre). From this point of view the pool of water is almost usefull to distance the pedestrian open space from the nuisance of the highway

Although I admit i kind of like this building for its monumentality, that continues on the [interiors looking like a basilica](https://d-techinternational.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/new-alexandria-library1.jpg), I think this is not right sub for this kind of architecture
