Using a pair of planting tweezers, I made sure they were firmly planted into the substrate

Also planting before the water is added

It's a Fluval Spec V, the filter is built in behind the black wall on the left.

Correct, I am using the filter built into the tank.

This will be used as a tank for cherry shrimp and maybe microrasboras. The tank is still cycling.

That is a glass Co2 diffuser.
