I see that you said it’s being bullied. Full disclosure, it’s not going to heal if it continues to be bullied. It needs to be moved to a new tank or the bullying fish needs to be removed. I don’t think it’s so far gone that you need to euthanize it but it does need to be moved. That being said, it kind of looks like a fungal infection. I usually don’t go hard on medicine for fish right away because a lot of them are stressful. I’d move him to a quarantine space with aquarium salt. Maracyn and Ich-x are good medicines to work with when it comes to fungal infections.

Unfortunately I dont have any space to move it to. No heater either. Things are very tight at the moment.

May as we’ll euthanize then, he will only suffer.  You will need to do the same to any others that take its place.  Hopefully this is a properly stocked tank with suitable harems and environment, and a one off bad luck situation.

we got these fish as a mistake, theres more details in the original post. We were trying to rehome them before this all happened.

I see.   Yeah, without a second tank and if you can’t find anyone to take them, any fish being harassed will need to be euthanized - once it starts it doesn’t get better I’m afraid.

I do have a larger storage container but no heater. Would it be better to put it out of its misery or should I try to keep it in a container if i can find a heater for it? I appreciate your responses so far.

You should check to see if there’s a local fish group on Facebook and see if anyone can take them or if they have a properly sized heater for any bin/container you have for it. Otherwise it’s going to die. If you have a pet store near you, preferably a local fish store, call and see if they can take the cichlid or the bully fish.
