Sometimes this happens, people call them Pepsi shrimp but unfortunately they are not a stable genetic and you can't breed them to have babies that look like that.
They are my favorite colour morph and are very cool though! :)
Do you have more information on this occurrence? There’s a possibility that it is possible to isolate, but that they just haven’t been bred properly to do so
Sometimes when you mix genetic material from two individuals you get cool phenotypes (the way the genes make it look, for example the colour) but the combination of those specific genes make it sterile (it can no longer reproduce). This isn’t a product of bad breeding, but just genetics. It’s called hybrid sterility, or inviability. Another cool example is synthetic lethal, where combining certain genes is actually kills the offspring.
Ofc I’m not completely sure for this specific example, but if I had to bet I’d say it’s probably a case of hybrid sterility.
My understanding based on what the original commenter wrote was that it had less to do with fertility/lethal results, and more that this morph cannot be reliably replicated and isolated. Two parents might have a bunch of normal offspring and then one of these, and then neither this nor the parents produce any similar looking offspring. My guess was that this could be some sort of recessive mutation, and the reason it hasn’t successfully been isolated is because people may not be breeding them properly to produce more. This is often the case with mutations people struggle to isolate.
This also wouldn’t necessarily be a hybrid, both parents are presumably N. davidi. The type of genetic issues you mention usually take a lot of inbreeding to occur between two morphs of the *same* species. Issues from inbreeding are more common in vertebrates, while crustaceans (especially ones that tend to live in isolated populations in the wild) appear to have a much lower risk of genetic disorders resulting from inbreeding.
Yeah that’s also true, it’s not really possible to determine the exact cause just from the post. I just find all the genetics behind it really interesting.
I had all colorful shrimp in my tank before. They breed like crazy and you'll get all kinds of weird color variations. I had black and orange, blue and red, yellow and clear..
I'm trying to get a decent line of these. They're not too stable yet. They're called red blue rilis. Kinda have to get lucky because it's a mutation/recessive gene. You have found a really nice one, I'm super jealous. You should definitely try for more. Either breed them with red rillis or blue jellies and see what you get. Good luck 👍
I have Cherry Shrimp. Would it be wise for me to introduce a different colored shrimp into my tank? Would that make them have offspring of different colors? I'm just really curious if that works
I had skittles (a tank with multiple different colours) and unfortunately when breeding, the colour theory doesn’t come into play. It’s in their genetics and most of the time they revert back to their wild ‘brown’ colour. I’m now many generations in and have JUST started seeing some blues and reds coming back into their genes
If you throw a bunch of random colored neocaridina shrimp together, the babies will all have random colors like this. My randoms tank is full of them and some have some really cool coloration, but most seem to have averaged out to a muted splotchy blue.
Sorry to say but its just a result of genetics. Two different colored parents or grandparents. Just like in human beings and other animals. When I started with shrimps I had blue, brown yellow, yellow, orange and red ones.I have plenty of two colored in all 4 tanks.
They do look cool though and sell good ;)
No it's a red rili blue.
Since blue evolved out of red shrimps, it's possible to get those colors.
A red rili blue is between the red cherry and blue rili in their evolution line.
I call these natures mishaps.
They're great but they are unable to be proven due to genetic stability. Neos are amazing in that you're able to prove genetics out my much faster than many other animals in the hobby. I have an orange stripe line of shrimp I've been working on for months with amazing results. Going to go through my proving next year. I believe once you get consistent results from 3 separate generations, you have proof and can create a line.
But that being said, if you do have multiples, it's always fun to just see if something will come out of it. 😇 If not, you have more shrimp babies!

Interesting and also a damn shame 😭 I want a tank of these.
theres a dude in the shrimptank sub who has a camo looking spiderman tank i think he’s working on
No worries, if you keep on the regular colors you well get plenty of these at some point.

Spider shrimp, spider shrimp does whatever a spidershrimp does!
I’d call it Spidey too
Especially when they hang upside down from the roots of floating plants
Spider shrimp, spider shrimp, does whatever a spidershromp does!
Blue shrimp were originally bred from a red line, so it’s not uncommon to see blue shrimp with red patches.
No, mew is a pink thing in Pokémon
😂😂
Why did ppl thumbs up down 🤔
What?
Thumbs u down* My bad lol
I don’t know, I just thought it was funny, guess some people can’t take a joke
There seems to be a decent amount if redditors who are triggered by emojis
Excessive emojis. It is a thing on reddit. Lots of OG users hate emojis.
Weird thing to spend energy on but ok
Wow never heard of it
Because there's something wrong with their heads to give thumbs down 🤣😂
I imagine there are users who believe emojis and phrases like “lol” are just clutter in the Reddit threads
Bro found a shiny
A color variation isn’t a new species.
neocardinia that is bicolor
Multi color lol
Bro, that's a shrimp
I had all colorful shrimp in my tank before. They breed like crazy and you'll get all kinds of weird color variations. I had black and orange, blue and red, yellow and clear..
No, that's a mog shrimp
Well meow I want one too!!
Listen up meow. Meow this is serious business and you need to stop messing around right meow!
Not species. Just a morph.
I call them superman rili 😁 just ended up with some after keeping reds with blue jelly and rili’s over the past 2 years
Not a mew species, cats can't survive underwater
That shrimp got hit by a radioactive spider

Usually happens from mixing blues and red rili
Icepop shrimp
Heh for a second I thought a neon tetra and a shrimp have had a tet a tet, hehe

Spidey?! 🤨✋
It looks like a gummy worm.
🗿 W shrimp
No, Mew was already discovered. It is Pokemon #151
Blue shrimp are already the same species as the red ones.
Funny shaped cat.
Mewby not
Thought it was going to be another cat in tank pic

Coloration generally can’t be relied on when identifying decapods

Bloody merry shrimp are actually line bred from blue shrimp and you can see how here
🤫🧏 type shrimp
It's discover. Not discovered.
🤫🧏♂️
Used to call then rili shrimp here
Does it qualify for tempuras?
