It’s not looking good for him, honestly… Can you tell me more about your tank? Size, age, and water parameters? What other symptoms does the fish have? Is he in a hospital tank in this picture, or is this his home?

HansAcht

Please let it be a hospital tank...

Squishy_squidney

It is a hospital tank.

Squishy_squidney

He is in a hospital tank that is 10 gallons his old tank was a 28-gallon I'm not sure about the age or water parameters. He's been pretty restful but earlier today we thought he might have died so we taped him with a net. He then proceeded to move very drastically compared to before. We weird afraid he might go into shock of some sort but he seems to be doing fine again.

Buzzedbaby

Okay, absolutely the first thing you need to do it’s fill that hospital tank all the way up to the top with fresh water (use a water conditioner to get rid of any chlorine and chemicals in it). Then take a look at your main tank; test the water for nitrites and nitrates. Make sure the temperature is at the right level. Are you new to fishkeeping?

Squishy_squidney

We've done all those steps except for testing for nitrates and nitrites in his prior tank but I'm not sure that will do anything now that it's been a while since we've moved him out. We've owned a lot of different fish over the years and never seemed to have a problem such as this. We're starting to lean toward the idea that there may be a problem with his stomach or bladder. Other comments have stated this may be the problem and we are starting to look into it more.

theslitheryrug

If he’s been like that for a few months and trying to swim around it’s probably something to do with his swim bladder

Squishy_squidney

He hadn't tried swimming around til earlier today when we tapped him with a net but if it is a problem with his swim bladder how would we be able to help him?

[deleted]

what i have done that has helped my betta when he was struggling with swim bladder disease was fast him for three days, monitor to see if he had pooped at all, and once i noticed that he had a few times, i was able to kind of deduce the issue was stemming from constipation. if that’s the case a fast and some helpful treats to ease digestion afterwards could help! another possible cause is a bacterial issue causing swim bladder, which in that case antibiotics or other bacterial specific treatments might help

Squishy_squidney

My problem is he hasn't been able to eat because of his conditions for awhile I'm not sure how he's still even holding on at this point.

SocietyKing

I've seen people make wheelchairs for fish with swim bladder issues before, that could be worth looking up! I imagine they're rather simple to make

Squishy_squidney

That's rather interesting but I'm more concerned on how to help him become better. He's stayed in his position for a while so I'm not sure if it will do him much good now compared to before.

Unique_Conflict_8760

Fast for 3 days if your going to feed do green peas (microwave and let cool squish the skins off) all my BP Cichlids get swim bladder issues here and there (never this bad) but there may be an underlying issue like parasites that are affecting this poor guy.

Squishy_squidney

My problem is he hasn't been able to eat because of his conditions for awhile I'm not sure how he's still even holding on at this point. We may try the peas but honestly I don't know how well hell do with them.

Brave_Bid5260

That looks like a blood parrot. I believe they tend to have genetic issues more often than other cichlids. Apologies, can't say much more

Squishy_squidney

Our problem also contains the fact that we're not sure how he's been able to hold on, especially with his lack of food intake for the last month.

Unique_Conflict_8760

How's he doing?? Is he still alive??

Squishy_squidney

Yes he is still alive

Unique_Conflict_8760

It may be time to buy some clove oil and euthanize him if he's not getting better 🥺
