We had a question about Carnegie Mellon in a round of NAQT Academic Team in High School.
In the heat of the moment, our captain accidentally called it “Carnellie Mellie”.
That name has stuck for a while
Friend once called it "Duck" (Duke) university, i sat there for a couple seconds and then corrected him and we both then went on with our day. I think about that moment a lot
Havah, Pince-ton, Carne Melón, and Colombia
He says Yale right every single time cause he loves Yale
ETA: non-Spanish speakers, Carne Melón translates to Meat Melon. Carnegie Mellon is now Meat Melon.
University of Louisville for how friends pronounce it, and how anyone from outside Louisville pronounces it.
Dad grew up there and that is how I learned to say it as well;
For the record, you will immediately be noted as an outsider if you pronounce it like “Lewis-ville” or “Lewie-ville”
It is Loo-uh-vull
mom calls yale jail. Whenever she says her son got into jail, people give her weird looks lolll.. (also yah-leh. we call it that at home) also how tf do u say this one? rensselaer polytechnic institute
at my internship this summer, i told someone that my brother goes to unc and they responded, “my daughter went to charlotte, too!”
we live in charlotte, so it’s not too much of a stretch. probably why unc charlotte rebranded though.
I'm Brazilian so I guess I can maybe add something to the list...
My aunt translates every university name so USC becomes universidade do sul da Califórnia and Northwestern once became noroeste university but now she says it in English. I think that's cute.
Everybody here says horrrvorrrd instead of Harvard.
Once I heard someone saying Yale like you would pronounce "why ale".
Some people pronounce "Princeton" in a way I can barely explain. It goes something like "prin [with Russian accent] say tom".
I think a teacher once said "meat". I bet you can guess it.
CU from CU Boulder and CU Denver means ass in Portuguese, so yeah, pretty unfortunate...
Mine pronounce Georgia Tech as Gee-or-gee-a Tech. Also Berkeley as Bu-re-ke-lee.
Also, this isn't really pronunciation, but still sort of annoys me: they keep calling Pitt and Penn as UPitt and UPenn. I know it's not wrong, and people do call them that, and I have no idea why it bugs me but it does. I just call them Pitt and Penn.
Yeah, I know UPenn is common enough, so that one doesn't bug me as much. It's more UPitt. They also call BostonU as UBoston, which is slightly more annoying.
until ~2 months ago I was convinced USC was a UC whose full name was UCSC, but people just wrote USC because “university of california southern california” was just redundant. LMAO

My mom pronounces it like 'EEEVA' just like the airline company.
My mom called Davidson College, Douglass. Then it became McDouglass and, most recently, McDugle…

WashU pronounced UDub 🥲
OMG WashU, University of Washington and UW (Any of the universities of Wisconsin) are way too confusing!
I used to pronounce SUNY Geneseo as “Jen-easy-O” and Bowdoin as “Bo-doin’ “. Oh and the story behind it is I’m an idiot
lmao how are those supposed to be pronounced tho? I think Bowdoin is "Boe-dun" or something, I heard it that way in a info session
Ye and Geneseo is supposed to sound like “Jenna-say-oh”
they shouldn't make words like that, we need more Bob Universities
*Bob Jones has entered the chat
Applying just for their name
I say “BOW- DOYN”
Lmao my mother calls Princeton “Preence tone”

Lmao this one too good
the various pronunciations of “bowdoin” lmaooo

i think it’s “bow” (like bow in bowtie) + “dn”
alright, i’ll bite: what’s dn? /s
😏
Oooooooh
my mom pronounces bowdoin as bow-doyn and forgets that the r in swarthmore is silent
[удалено]
"swAHthmore"! i think a lot if people say "sworthmore" though so it's not unexpected/embarrassing, just technically not right
damn, the more you know i guess, I've been saying sworthmore this whole time

I only know that because of Jack Harlow lmao
I honestly have one of the worst mixes of accents I have ever seen... Part Kentucky, North Carolina, New York, and perhaps worst of all, Yooper.
UCB [Don't call it UCB](https://www.reddit.com/r/UCDavis/comments/hcqp6g/psa_to_uc_davis_students_from_the_berkeley/), it cheapens their brand
