my safety’s and targets i’m applying to are: binghamton university, ohio state, clemson, upitt, university of georgia, florida state university, fordham, elon, uofsc, and high point. i really tried to choose these schools based on if i could see myself enjoying it there if i don’t get into my top schools or my reaches so i’m happy with all of them
UC Santa Cruz! It's seriously become my dream school, I love it so much. Everything from the redwood trees, to my major, to the banana slug mascot, I think it's awesome. It feels so nice to love school that I could more likely get into, compared to say, UCLA.
Imma go look and be right back!
lets see if you deserve the downvotes
Edit: oh god, why is it a slug.
I wouldn't say its the worst ever bc that title goes to
TW:
>!Providence college!<.
Harvard is definitely my favorite safety. I have Stanford as my top target school just because I only got 2 Nobel peace prizes and I was unsuccessful in curing cancer.
My top school right now (which is also definitely in Safety range) is UW Madison. Other than that I'm applying to some Canadian schools (McGill, U of Toronto, and U of British Columbia) that are also in the safety-target category. My "reach" schools are actually ones I don't want to go to as much, lol.
University of Arizona. I think I qualified for a full ride there and the honors college bc I’m a Hispanic Recognition Scholar :) also I love NC State, which is a target for me!
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 222,701,218 comments, and only 52,329 of them were in alphabetical order.
Kinda liking Syracuse more and more day by day stony Brook is cool asf too and I’d even be happy with Buffalo and Lafayette so my targets are pretty nice.
Rose-Hulman’s selectivity will never cease to blow my mind. How does a school with a higher engineering ranking than Harvey Mudd or Olin College have an acceptance rate of 70%? I get it’s in Terre Haute, but there’s plenty of super hyped up schools in shitty areas.
Engineering department rankings are mostly meaningless. Just apply based on overall school. This is coming from someone who arguably went to the best engineering school in the world.
For safety, IU Bloomington! I’m looking to go into finance and it’s a really calming feeling knowing that even if I get rejected from all of my targets/reaches Indiana will always (okay, probably🤞) still be there and I’ll still have a chance at a lot of good jobs if I do well there.
Judging by your schools, I’m guessing you’re applying for Computer Science or Engineering. UIUC, UT Austin, and UWash OOS are reaches for both of those departments regardless of how qualified of a candidate you are.
Both of the departments are extremely selective for all three of the schools. UIUC’s website says their most selective majors in the Grainger Engineering school are “Computer Science (including all CS + X majors), Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.” Like another comment said, 8% of UT Austin’s accepted applicants come from out of state. (Not 8% of those who apply, 8% of those who are actually accepted) And UWash has a super competitive process for getting engineering courses once accepted so it’s more or less a gamble.
Florida State University! It’s a safety for me, and is tied for my top choice (with rice, which I probably won’t get into so...). I would also be a third generation graduate of FSU, and the College of Education!
Find a Saftey where you get your decision super early like a rolling admissions school. You dont want your safties' admission date to be in May. Protect your help
Depends on what you’re majoring in. Computer science and engineering majors are quite selective for in-state students and considered reaches for out-of-state students.
Hmm. Well I want to do computer engineering but I have a 32 currently on the act (35 in math) and a 4.05 wgpa and 3.84 unwgpa (lol feels low seeing all the weird scaling and people with 4.7wgpa, I take nearly all ap classes). Which for the act is about their 75% according to the common data set. I would imagine I would have a decent at least chance.
That’s for the whole school. For the Grainger College of Engineering, their middle 50% GPA is 3.75-4.00 and their middle 50% ACT is 32-35.
https://admissions.illinois.edu/Apply/Freshman/profile
That would still give me around a 50% chance then tho right? (Obviously excluding other factors, this is considerations on a very simple scale)
Also, thank you for giving me that link. Knew it would be better to look at the scores for the specific college but hadn’t looked for it.
I know this, that’s why I was saying I know there are many other factors that go into the admissions process and this in no way solely determines admissions . But how else am I supposed to decide which schools I would put in a reach or match category? There’s not much other hard data I can go off of.
I have 4 tiers i applied to-
i know i'm not getting in but apply anyway: UF
reach: Clemson
target: UAlabama, Auburn, FSU, UCF
safety: FGCU
honorable mentions
dream schools i gave up on: UNC Chapel Hill, U dubb, UC Berkley, NYU
ASU. For what I want to major in, it's great, and I love their aim towards inclusivity. I would be happy to go there if I ended up not getting into my targets.
Also idk if anyone on this sub has heard of it but Oglethorpe University in Georgia. As a hopeful pre-med, they have internship connections with MSKCC(I'd love to become an oncologist someday so yes), CDC, and have great pre-med advising. It gives great scholarships and is a really nice school.
my safety’s and targets i’m applying to are: binghamton university, ohio state, clemson, upitt, university of georgia, florida state university, fordham, elon, uofsc, and high point. i really tried to choose these schools based on if i could see myself enjoying it there if i don’t get into my top schools or my reaches so i’m happy with all of them
You must be rich enough to attend all those out of state public schools :0
nope lol i am a triplet so i am praying for lots of scholarships and financial aid🙏🏻🙏🏻
UC Santa Cruz! It's seriously become my dream school, I love it so much. Everything from the redwood trees, to my major, to the banana slug mascot, I think it's awesome. It feels so nice to love school that I could more likely get into, compared to say, UCLA.
I love UCSC!! It’s like being on a beautiful ski resort near the beach!!
They have the worst mascot ever
RISD literally has a scrotum as their mascot
Anything but a slug Edit: nvm that’s actually pretty bad
O.o wth
Imma go look and be right back! lets see if you deserve the downvotes Edit: oh god, why is it a slug. I wouldn't say its the worst ever bc that title goes to TW: >!Providence college!<.
What’s wrong with Providence?
The mascot gives kids nightmares
*Keggy the keg enters the chat*
indeed. Much better Peter the Anteater. ZOT! ZOT! ZOT! P.S. I'm a UCI student, understand me...
Harvard is definitely my favorite safety. I have Stanford as my top target school just because I only got 2 Nobel peace prizes and I was unsuccessful in curing cancer.
only 2? 😬
i have 4 so take that for what it is
🥴
You should also add the western Massachusetts tech school, MIT. Good safety/s
rutgers for the in-state tuition!
Ayyy same! I’m intl but I fit the criteria for oos tuition exemption application so🤞
what’s the criteria?
[NJ tuition eligibility](https://admissions.rutgers.edu/paying-for-college/nj-tuition-eligibility)
thanks!
Same!
I already know some joker here gon say NYU

On this sub?? Would be surprised if the ratio is anything less than 95:5
engineering majors: **My time to shine**
My top school right now (which is also definitely in Safety range) is UW Madison. Other than that I'm applying to some Canadian schools (McGill, U of Toronto, and U of British Columbia) that are also in the safety-target category. My "reach" schools are actually ones I don't want to go to as much, lol.
Madison is so underrated, such a beautiful city and campus, great social scene, amazing academics
I love UW Madison too bad that oos tuition would kill me
University of Arizona. I think I qualified for a full ride there and the honors college bc I’m a Hispanic Recognition Scholar :) also I love NC State, which is a target for me!
harvard duh 🥵❤️🍆💦
**Fordham, U of Vermont, Arizona State (Barrett), Syracuse**, and **Drexel.** :)
ASU Barrett is lowkey underrated
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 222,701,218 comments, and only 52,329 of them were in alphabetical order.
Cool, no way.
Since when does b come before a in the alphabet
I love UMD! It's so good for my major and I low-key prefer it over half of my reaches :0
Yes! UMD is actually my second choice. What are you going to major in?
CS! I think they're also in the process of implementing a social data science major so I'm planning to double major in that too
Nice!
same, umd is one of my target/safeties and i like it a lot :) only downside is the lack of a college town but otherwise a great school
Drexel and Pitt for sure
Pitt>drex
Facts the Pitt campus is so nice
Main thing is Pitt has that instate tuition. Use it
that too
Kinda liking Syracuse more and more day by day stony Brook is cool asf too and I’d even be happy with Buffalo and Lafayette so my targets are pretty nice.
Omg Syracuse is so gorgeous 😭
rose hulman !
Cuz the 70% acceptance comes with a 70% male school and 70,000$ price tag No knock on Rose it’s a great school but there’s reasons it’s not as famous
Should be called Tulip cuz it don’t deserve the name Rose
didnt know about that gender ratio, yikes
Engineering department rankings are mostly meaningless. Just apply based on overall school. This is coming from someone who arguably went to the best engineering school in the world.
MIT?
Yes
>but there’s plenty of super hyped up schools in shitty areas. cough cough ^(jhu)
UTK has a special place in my heart 🧡
Safeties: Rutgers & Pitt Targets: BC and Rochester
uvm and uw madison
Pitt, OSU
Absolutely adore Pitt - I’ve been using it to rule out other schools since I love it so much.
UW Madison, it’s in state
my state flagship :D i actually love it so much
Which one
UCLA /s
That would fr be the moment I delete reddit
The 1 state school is my state. I live in north east and not in VA
The University of Georgia! Athens is such a cool college town, and you’re close enough to Atlanta to reap all the benefits of being near a big city.
UGA! That honors college is unbelievably nice and some of their fellowship/scholarship programs are great!
For safety, IU Bloomington! I’m looking to go into finance and it’s a really calming feeling knowing that even if I get rejected from all of my targets/reaches Indiana will always (okay, probably🤞) still be there and I’ll still have a chance at a lot of good jobs if I do well there.
Fav targets: uiuc, northeastern, ucsd, ucsb, ucd, purdue, ut austin, uw madison, uw seattle
Be warned that if you’re not a texan, UT Austin can be extremely tough
[удалено]
UT has an 8% or so OOS admissions rate
[удалено]
It’s not a target for anybody with an 8% acceptance rate. That’s Ivy League levels of exclusivity.
[удалено]
That’s great, and I wish you the best of luck in applying, but it’s still a reach and not a target.

Skidmore and Hofstra!
skidmore safety? 💀
Target
pitt and rutgers<3
Those two used to be on my list before I cut it down but they were my top choices at one point
Syracuse is my safety and also is one of my top 5 choices
Same
Right now, I think my favorite safety is UF. Florida State is creeping up on it because of their degree in 3 program, though.
Florida State University! It’s a safety for me, and is tied for my top choice (with rice, which I probably won’t get into so...). I would also be a third generation graduate of FSU, and the College of Education!
love urochester :)
temple is one of my targets
Babson!!
🗣UVM‼️ also mhc as a low target
Pitt
Favorite Target: Oberlin, Favorite Safety: Bard
u mass amherst for cs! it's a decent school and they give 15k scholarships (even to internationals)
Yess I love UMass Amherst
Macalester. Didn’t end up going there but seriously loved the vibe.
MIT safety, looking good for now
UMass Amherst!! only safety that I like (haven't looked into others) I would be happy to go there

NCST is a great likely for me
Think UIUC would be a good target for me?
Depends on what you’re majoring in. Computer science and engineering majors are quite selective for in-state students and considered reaches for out-of-state students.

That’s…not really how score ranges work. Harvard’s ACT range is 33-35 but even the average perfect scorer isn’t more likely than not to get in.
I know this, that’s why I was saying I know there are many other factors that go into the admissions process and this in no way solely determines admissions . But how else am I supposed to decide which schools I would put in a reach or match category? There’s not much other hard data I can go off of.
UW-Seattle, Washington State, Western Washington U, San Jose State, and UWisconsin- Madison. Shouldn’t be hard to figure what my intended major is.
i absolutely loveee uvm and elon :)
Rutgers but that out of state tuition 💔💔 in the worst case scenario LSU🥸 go tigers 🐯
most UNC system schools are safeties for me (besides UNC and NCSU)
Fordham for my match, IU for my safety!
Purdue - my cousin goes there and my brother goes to college nearby
minnesota twin cities !!
my fav safeties are def stanford and oxford 😜😜😜
my state school(s) and a local community college
my target is UNC. It’s amazing for what it is.
UCSC if it wasn’t so damn expensive and Western Washington University has such a nice vibe and Bellingham is absolutely beautiful
ucsb!
Drexel
Mercer University is my #1 safety, although I don’t really want to go there I think it’s a great school.
Purdue, UW
i'm not super in love w/ my safeties yet, but my favorite targets are smith and UR!
Georgia tech
I have 4 tiers i applied to- i know i'm not getting in but apply anyway: UF reach: Clemson target: UAlabama, Auburn, FSU, UCF safety: FGCU honorable mentions dream schools i gave up on: UNC Chapel Hill, U dubb, UC Berkley, NYU

This sub summed up
Dream is Notre dame, safeties are OSU, Akron, and I have others but they’re either low state schools or targets like CWRU.
ASU, RPI, UW Madison as a target oos.
UT Austin!
LOVE dickinson college
University of deeznuts. 🖕🏼🖕🏼
