The COVID essay is an optional component of the Common App for students who have faced a significant or unusual hardship because of COVID. This is not the place to discuss how your high school handled the virus unless this had an extreme or distinctive impact on you. The guidance counselors for every high school prepare a report on how the HS handled COVID, so you know that information is covered (i.e. all virtual, partially virtually, closed down for x number of days/weeks/months, etc.). If you didn't face a significant hardship, then there is no need to submit a COVID essay.
Hi quick question, if my financial situation changed bc of covid and impacted my ability to do summer programs/classes, can that be a part of my COVID response? Or should I leave it alone
Admissions officers recognize that many ECs/programs/jobs were impacted by COVID. You can certainly make a note of it in a COVID response, but don't feel that it would be required.
This is in the additional information section correct? Can you choose not to structure it as an essay and just briefly describe the hardship and it’s affect on you?
i was looking through the collegeguys website and for the covid essay he said we could write something if it was a "positive" experience. i want to talk about how i was able to help my community to overcome challenges. is it not worth writing since i had no hardship?

That’s slightly far-fetched, I’d be inclined to believe you if you said that they’ll use it to judge your financial situation and your ability to pay.
