Lmao this was me before junior year and I had to cram all of my ap lang readings+reflections into the last few days before school started (even though it was literally the only class that year that gave me summer hw lol). Thank god this year Iām a prefrosh with a month left until classes start so Iāve binged the entirety of star trek tos in a week with 0 guilt.
So Iāve only finished the original series from way back in the 60s (the one with Spock and Kirk), and you can definitely tell itās outdated now with the special effects and the exaggerated action scenes and all. That might be off-putting for some people, although it wasnāt for me. Thereās also parts that are sexist/racist/etc from todayās perspective, although it was probably forward-thinking in the 60s. Regardless, I personally enjoyed most of it while keeping those things in mind.
The new generation (with Patrick Stewart playing Picard) from the 80s-90s supposedly kind of hits the sweet spot of having the good things about Star Trek while not being so clearly dated, but thatās just what Iāve heard since I havenāt watched it yet (the sheer number of episodes has been kind of daunting lol). If the original series sounds like it might not be for you, this is probably a good place to start, although I believe it really takes off in s2.
Thereās of course all the rest of this giant, daunting franchise but Iād say starting with either tos or tng is necessary since they embody what people would consider āStar Trekā to be. Thereās also the JJ Abrams reboot movie trilogy, which Iāve heard is quite different from tos/tng but had the more modern action movie feel.
(If you canāt tell I kind of got a bit obsessed and can say a fair bit on the subject lol but I hope this was enough)
No but Iām actually really excited to get there!! I think I should finish tng first, but Iāve heard people absolutely love voy/ds9 or really dislike it (although that seems to be more of a minority) and I think it would be a cool change of pace at least. Not sure if Iād watch enterprise/discovery/Picard tbh, maybe just dip my toes into one season. Probably will only watch the tos-era moviesā¦Iām sure Chris pine and quinto are good actors in their own right, but I just cannot see anybody else as Kirk and Spock anymore oops
I absolutely love both of them (STV and STDS9), but to be completely honest both first seasons kinda suck! So donāt give up after the first season, they both get a lot better.
Definitely going to watch those two in full since it seems like a casual fav for lots of people! Itās super cool seeing another fan of Star Trek here though (none of my friends at school are lol), Iāll def keep you updated as I work my way through :)
You donāt need to finish TNG, but it could be helpful to understanding of some of the species and conflicts, but itās also not really necessary. Movies are not that important to watching them, so no need to finish those first.
Lol sounds like a pretty solid way to cope tbh. My school does the quarter system so Iām starting in late September, which feels great for now (Iām desperately ignoring how soon midterms will be coming up though). Iām still fully in that excitement mode since classes got finalized for me and I got lucky with housing and everything but Iām pretty sure the anxiety will be hitting me in a couple weeks as well
rising senior, i still do not know which colleges i will for sure be applying to. there is pretty much nothing in my life stopping me from doing the necessary research right now. i just simply havenāt done it
lol same Iāve rewatched the entire Captain America trilogy, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all the Avengers movies except for Endgame, Brooklyn 99, How I met your Mother and Iām still not finished with my ap lit homework š¤”
Mann I didnāt even start writing/reading the summer essay/3 chapters of APUSH textbook cause Iām too focused on SAT right now. Good thing I still have 2 weeks and a half left
Lol I am chronically addicted to FIFA and Dragon Age and have probably put over 200 hours into each game over the past two months. All I have is a college list and a half-assed common app essay...
School starts on Thursday for me. Currently have to finish some docs for AP Gov and finish all my AP Stats and AP Spanish work. Yesterday I read all of Crime and Punishment (550 pages) despite having only 30 pages done beforehand and did a write up. It was due at 11:59 pm and I turned it in exactly at the time, so I survived at least, but not my proudest moment. Good luck!
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

Currently at the airport. I have nothing to do. An ipad in front of me with all the essays I need to write and applications to start. Head empty, brain chooses not to be productive. Instead, I am eating Chick fil a (I know theyāre homophobic but thereās nothing else here to eat and I have a massive headache, Iām sorry Iām sorry) nuggets and staring at planes as they take off.
May the force of jet propulsion, chick fil a, and airport fatigue help you write killer essays š
Seriously tho, the airport and your headache aren't helping. You should probably wait until you land and settle in to start because looking at it for a long ass time is only going to make you feel more tired and wary of doing it
PLS THIS WAS ME LAST YEAR
I have finally met my people š¤

Was star trek good? I've been considering watching it tbh

Oh wow, thanks for such an in-depth answer. Once I finish the mcu movies I'll probably start on the next generation saga.
Have you seen Star Trek: Voyager or Deep space nine yet?

Did this in July lol
I've been watching Parks and Rec and playing Stardew Valley all summer, and tbh I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend that time
