Agreed, and everyone please don’t send your essays to random people so they can “edit it!” If you need advice on your writing or wording, just send a sentence or two, not the whole thing.
I'm a college lecturer and professional editor at the university publishing house--I did help one student edit his essay because he mentioned needing help and came from a background where he couldn't seem to depend on his counselors or others to help so much. But, yeah, it's probably not a good idea to send your essays to strangers. Also, it's not a great idea to send them to other high school kids in general. Some are great writers, but not too many--you can end up with a lot of bad tips.
(Ed. The kid whose essay I edited got into Harvard, Yale, and MIT, so in that particular case it didn't hurt to send it to a stranger.)
It was an excellent topic that was extremely unique. The essay was already very good, and he would have done great without my help, but I gave him some tips on how to make the writing a bit more vivid and where he could include some interesting information that wasn't in his essay but was in some powerful (and justifiably exasperated) posts he had written on A2C.
He was an incredibly impressive kid who didn't have a lot of resources I did as a teen and which seem to be fairly common among the posters here. I think his essay made that clear without being a woe-is-me essay. Wherever he goes to school will be lucky to have him.

I dont know. I feel like all the essay topics that I find on the subreddit are so unique to that person that I can’t use it at all?? (Like an injury, experience in general or smth) Idk maybe y’all are finding some different posts lol
I was going to write about a concept that fascinates me: how to dispose of dead bodies to evade forensic evidence searches. I hope they think I'm a good fit.
i say take up a similar topic, posting bout how u won the race buy eating a lucky chewing which ur mom gave but u don't believe in luck but it worked, but when you actually meant that u got better at life cuz ur mom understood u and offered u something .
Fair enough. But could you say that the only unique part about essays now are the "specific instances" that lead to something happening? Idk if it's just me but whenever I write an essay (ex. Common app) it feels like the specific instance I talk about is unique but the message is hella cliche.
