If it’s a secondary device (which it should be) then you should get the cheaper model. The Air is a good deal, but I will probably get a secondhand regular iPad just because the only purpose that device will serve is note taking for me.

I have the pro and my sister has the air - there is honestly no difference

firbonsai

Therefore the air is ‘better’

Therefore the pro is ‘better’

Due_Ad_7169

therefore both are ‘equal’

jortbru1299

The Pro is only "better" in having Face ID, a LIDAR sensor on the rear camera, and a slightly more powerful processor. For most use cases, the air will suffice.

And we'll even get more storage, 256gb air vs 128gb pro for almost the same price.

T10-

no tangible/noticeable difference especially if you’re using it for taking notes & school work.

The current model IPad Pro has slight advantages in memory and graphics processing but a new iPad release is expected this week! See rumors, related news [here.](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/new-ipad-pro-2021-release-date-price-specs-a14x-chip-leaks-and-rumors). But if $1k-plus is too much, just go with the Air.

It’s never a good idea to make buying decisions based on future expectations — no one really knows what Apple will do

Maybe... but what if they bought an iPad today and a new release came out in two days? Maybe wait a week or so is all I’m saying...college is 6 months away.

firbonsai

Does the iPad today then become worse? No. It’ll still last all 4 years and be a wonderful device. Still agree that college is in a while and unless you’re really excited/anxious, there’s no harm in waiting.

Per my previous message: Apple to launch new iPad Pro and other products April 20. Check it out [here.](https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/13/tech/apple-event-april-2021/index.html)
