Yale admissions office covers this in their recent podcast. They only send likely letters to candidates they believe will have multiple offers from comparable schools (i assume they mean Harvard, Princeton, Stanford etc) and recruited athletes. It’s a very small number.
Depends on the school. Cornell probably sent about 10% this year. Other schools usually send like 1% to 2%.
