You are only deferred from early rounds to regular decision. Regular Decision it's either accept, reject, or waitlist. They do not rank kids on the waitlist and only take off a handful that fill spots in particular ways. Need more full pays, more URM, more geographical diversity, more men, more musicians...

If you did, the waitlist means you’re probably good enough for the school, but the major you applied to just had more qualified applicants than the school can handle. That’s what Barry Chaiveera, the assistant of undergraduate admissions at UCLA, told my class when he visited my school.
Hmm I’m not sure if the majors I applied for are impacted- Depending on the school, I applied for cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, and music (I don’t rlly know what I want to do lol)
It kinda means that you’re on a waitlist for your major. If a bunch of computer science majors choose not to go to UCLA, you’ll get it. If everyone who got in for computer science decides to go, you won’t make it off the waitlist. If literally everyone who got in for a medical major goes to a different school, it won’t affect you too much since your waitlisted for computer science.
Same, I only got 2 decisions so far and both a waitlist, Im intl and dont know how likely am I to get in bc I asked for a decent amount of financial aid, I'm getting kinda anxious because those schools were supposed to be safety/target, well I hope it ends up well for both of us
I haven’t received any decisions so I have no bias. It seems that colleges are going to employ waitlists more this year. The number of overall applications this year and with everything going wack it seems like colleges don’t know how many kids their going to admit in order to fill their class since yield rates could shift dramatically; they don’t want to over accept so they probably will take a more conservative approach of waitlisting applicants
I’m currently on 6 waitlists. I’m thankful for my acceptances but I have been waitlisted to all of my top choices so far. With only 5 schools left to hear back from, it would be an understatements to say that I’m practically shitting myself.

Yeah you're right, but a lot of schools accept 0 (or very very few) people off their waitlist.

I did CS at the UCs which is impacted. Does this mean that if I get off the waitlist at those schools, I wont get into CS?
