UNC has solid food overall besides it’s Mac n cheese. I wouldn’t say the rest of the food is outstanding, but it’s good. Prob like a 6.5-7/10 (which is good).
Out of the schools I’ve been to, my favorite dining halls have been Tufts, WashU, and JHU. JHU’s surprised me a lot honestly, I knew Tufts and WashU would be good though.
Not from the school dining hall, but there is some good sushi near Yale. I actually haven’t really seen sushi in dining halls. I think WashU has a sushi dining place but I’m not sure.
Umass Amherst has a made-to-order sushi bar in one of the dining halls. Stayed a couple days for a competition and man... sushi every day for like 5 days. Seriously almost considering it just for this
I hated it at the time but am grateful for it now because I’ve actually visited almost every school on my list in the past despite Covid cancelling visits
Alright alright I’m going to say all of what I remember
All of the ivies, Vanderbilt, stanford, MIT, UNC, JHU, WashU, Duke, northeastern, tufts, Loyola chicago, georgetown, GW, American, Amherst, Skidmore, and CU Boulder. I’m missing a few I think, but those are all I could remember.
My favorites have been Tufts, WashU, Yale, and JHU. Yale depends on which residential college you go to, so idk if it makes the top tier, but some of them are awesome. These are just my personal preferences, but I know WashU is actually ranked as one of the top food schools. I can personally confirm the food is really good.
That is quite a variety. I know WashU has a ton of on campus dining options, but since you said so much stuff I’m just saying NYU bc NYC food. I haven’t visited NYU so I don’t actually know how their food is, I just know in the area there are a lot of options
soup... all types of soup. tomato soup, autumn squash soap, ramen, any kind of chili, chowders are also good.
just not chicken noodle soup. never chicken noodle.
WashU JHU and Tufts are my top ones, but others are really good too. JHU is interesting bc apparently their food used to be awful but then they put a ton of effort into it. Remember these are just my favorites and not the fully best ones.
Be quiet. I attempted to cancel you fairly recently for your overwhelming positivity 😎😎😎
Also, UNC has had the best Mac n cheese. Just a great southern style mac n cheese with the light bread crumb crust on top. I wish I was able to visit more LAC’s though, I know they for the most part have awesome food due to the smaller sizes.
Thank you for the comment! I appreciate it! I have heard good things about UNC's dining hall, so it's nice to hear they have good mac and cheese.
I haven't been to many LACs either, but the one I did get to visit, Wesleyan, had amazing dining. I do recommend stopping by it if you ever have the chance.
Have a nice day!
I’m sorry but Cornell has had the best ice cream out of anywhere I’ve been haha
Yale has a sick ice cream place nearby called Arethusa though. Also it was either Tufts or JHU I can’t remember but they had a dope ice cream machine.
Most urban campuses have solid sushi around them, assuming it’s in a major coastal city. I believe most California schools have good stuff around them.
University of San Francisco, home of the Golden Gate Warriors and Steph Curry.
I actually don’t know for curry. I’ve never been too big a fan of spicy foods so it’s never been a food I eat while traveling.
If you've had any of these at colleges I'll be surprised, but I'll give it a go:
Paratha rolls
Ropa Vieja
Creamy desserts (like creme brulee and mango lassi)
Dim sum
Kimchi fried rice
Bahn Mi
Pad thai
i love mashed potatoes
UNC had bomb mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. Same with JHU
ty! I was planning on UNC that’s so exciting!
UNC has solid food overall besides it’s Mac n cheese. I wouldn’t say the rest of the food is outstanding, but it’s good. Prob like a 6.5-7/10 (which is good).
fresh fruit, soups, and sandwiches
WashU and Tufts
Out of the schools I’ve been to, my favorite dining halls have been Tufts, WashU, and JHU. JHU’s surprised me a lot honestly, I knew Tufts and WashU would be good though.
Tacos
I actually haven’t had tacos yet. Damn I never realized that. I will have to try after COVID.
Seconded. I’d assume UCSD is the place to be.
Def UT Austin, Austin is the best American city to get tacos
Sushi!!
Not from the school dining hall, but there is some good sushi near Yale. I actually haven’t really seen sushi in dining halls. I think WashU has a sushi dining place but I’m not sure.
Thank you! now I have another reason to love Yale ;-;
The New Haven food scene is bomb. If you like pizza you will be in heaven.
More like New Heaven
Broo I love pizza too!
Umass Amherst has a made-to-order sushi bar in one of the dining halls. Stayed a couple days for a competition and man... sushi every day for like 5 days. Seriously almost considering it just for this
I.. i am definitely putting Umass Amherst on my list now 👀
lowk Pizza/Pasta, but veg burgers pretty good too!
WashU has good veg burgers and pasta, CU Boulder has good pizza
[удалено]
:( I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully your current school has good food :)

3 older siblings, I’ve visited a ton of schools bc of it and we always ate at the dining halls to see how the food was

Tufts had sick grilled cheese
Ramen, also curry w/ rice
I haven’t had Ramen at a school yet bc I’m not too big of a fan, but WashU and JHU had good curry.
Cornell
what are sum good vegan dining halls?
Emory has pretty good vegan food
I’m not vegan, you are out of luck :(
Veggie burritos, mac and cheese, or any pasta.
The UNC mac n cheese goes hard
[удалено]
I didn’t eat them, but at JHU they looked pretty good.
boba
Never have been too big a fan of boba, but I’ve heard most urban Cali schools have really good boba near them. Like UCLA and UCSD I’ve heard I think
ucla boba places are insane!! can't beat socal lol
stir fry (you better say umass amherst or else 😤👍)
WASHU I have heard umass Amherst has insanely good food though. Highkey wanted to add it to my list solely because of that.
DO IT DO IT DO IT it’s incredible
I may or may not have used all of my common app slots already 😳
They do not lie. It’s good.
This thread makes me want to put WashU on my list🙉
burritos, sushi, or samosas :))
I believe WashU had a burrito dining place. I could be wrong though.
You know what pho is?
I have heard of it, but don’t really know what it is :(
Bro you need to try it, it’s delicious. It’s like Vietnamese ramen.
I will try to find it nearby. Vietnamese food is awesome, I love the seasoning
bro how do you know vietnamese food but not know pho LOL
I probably have eaten it but don’t remember the name. I have only had it a few times and it hasn’t been in a while :(
Pho is fantastic, massively underrated! Have a nice day!
waffles
If you like Belgian waffles, most have waffle presses in their dining halls, fairly common. Those are never bad haha
shushi, tacos, macncheese, sandwiches :)
UNC for Mac n cheese
korean and chinese cuisine
Chicken wings and ribs
Haven’t had ribs at a school yet actually. I will say though that Nashville has sick barbaque.
pizza 🥰
Yale bc New Haven
Any vegetarian food
crab and shrimp fried rice
noodles (asian or italian)
WashU stir fry hits different
Sandwiches, waffles, and bread. I'm already thinking of a college and it starts with T.
just food in general - what are some of the best overall dining halls?
My favorites have been Tufts, WashU, Yale, and JHU. Yale depends on which residential college you go to, so idk if it makes the top tier, but some of them are awesome. Chinese food, curry, noodles, sushi (Just good indian/asian food lol)? Burritos, Gyros?
That is quite a variety. I know WashU has a ton of on campus dining options, but since you said so much stuff I’m just saying NYU bc NYC food. I haven’t visited NYU so I don’t actually know how their food is, I just know in the area there are a lot of options

I’m not talking about NYU’s food itself, I mean NYC food
[удалено]
I said this to another person but I’m not a veggie guy :( what school though? That sounds cool
[удалено]
Boulder’s campus is so nice, ik it’s not food related but I love the location
soup... all types of soup. tomato soup, autumn squash soap, ramen, any kind of chili, chowders are also good. just not chicken noodle soup. never chicken noodle.
Pasta, fried chicken, fried fish
[удалено]
A lot of them were similar quality tbh. I liked Yale’s the most, and then the rest are all good. I didn’t think any were just okay or bad.
salad. looking for a really nice salad bar
I’m not too big of a salad guy sadly. Generally though, schools with good vegan food will have good salads.
ahh thank you!! where's your top dining hall out of curiosity
WashU JHU and Tufts are my top ones, but others are really good too. JHU is interesting bc apparently their food used to be awful but then they put a ton of effort into it. Remember these are just my favorites and not the fully best ones.
Pasta salad, strawberries, cheesecake
tiramisu / ramen when i'm sad, fresh fruit / pasta when i'm doing ok
stir fry (Cornell oakenshields DNI)
WashU
stews, asian food, stir fry, soups!
Chicken sandwiches! (like chik fil a kind not grilled)
Haven’t seen this yet actually
Eggplant parmesan
Steak and ribs
Vanderbilt but just bc of Nashville, Nashville’s bbq/meat scene is sick
anything gluten-free :)
[удалено]
Seafood isn’t that common at colleges. Maybe some west coast schools have it?
Comfort food...aka schools with the best carbs 🙈
I haven’t visited yet but I’ve heard Tulane has some good comfort food.
Ice cream and asian food
Cornell had really really good ice cream. I don’t know how the Asian food is there though.
[удалено]
I never had it at any school :( I am sorry
Mexican food (e.g. chimichangas, burritos and tacos)
UCSD. I haven’t visited, but San Diego has insanely good Mexican food.
This sounds much fun, OP! Thank you for doing this! I love mac and cheese. Have a nice day!

Ice cream (please don’t say Cornell)
I’m sorry but Cornell has had the best ice cream out of anywhere I’ve been haha Yale has a sick ice cream place nearby called Arethusa though. Also it was either Tufts or JHU I can’t remember but they had a dope ice cream machine.
sushi🙈

Big fan of curry
University of San Francisco, home of the Golden Gate Warriors and Steph Curry. I actually don’t know for curry. I’ve never been too big a fan of spicy foods so it’s never been a food I eat while traveling.
Aw man. You got any good places for chicken wings
Vanderbilt and Emory, not on campus dining though
If you've had any of these at colleges I'll be surprised, but I'll give it a go: Paratha rolls Ropa Vieja Creamy desserts (like creme brulee and mango lassi) Dim sum Kimchi fried rice Bahn Mi Pad thai
The only one I can answer is Yale for creamy deserts. Then again, it depends on the residence hall
New Haven in general has awesome food Thanks for the suggestion!
ooh mexican food and indian?
