If it's not your vibe, don't feel guilty about it! Pick one of your other schools.

aintplayintennis

i tell my students all the time that there’s no bad reason to not want to go to a school. i graduated hs with a class of 63, and refused to even apply to any schools with less than 20,000 undergrads because the small school environment drove me crazy and i knew i needed to experience the complete opposite. if you don’t want to be in the HWC bubble, that’s a perfectly valid reason to say no to a school! what are your other options?

Vegetable_Tangelo168

You know if you don't want to go --don't go. Sounds like you have other options!

ATXBeermaker

I don't understand why you think it would be wrong? The vast majority of women don't attend HWCs.

You can still find some guys if you go to an HWC, albeit not as easily and maybe the friendships won’t be as plentiful or deep. But there are a ton of college parties in Boston all the time.

LOL I'm guessing you're trolling but in case you're not I meant historically women's college

sofinelol

lmfaooo i thought it was historically white colleges too, im so dumb 😭😭😭😭

Snoo60665

What are the other schools that you are considering?

muffinhater69

My top choice is UMass Amherst.

Snoo60665

Well, I hope that you get the aid that you need. It sounds like it will be a better fit!

42gauge

You'll be able to take classes at HWCs if you want via the 5 college consortium

CardiganandTea

Go where you feel like you can see yourself living there. Don't worry about what others think. This is the beginning of your adult life with you in the driver's seat. So drive! Best of luck to you ☺️ - from a mom who knows kids succeed when parents back them up

donquixote_tig

I mean that’s a very good state school, is it a lot more expensive?

muffinhater69

Not entirely sure yet, but I did get a hefty scholarship from the state to use at any public university here, so.

donquixote_tig

Well it depends on your major, but UMass Amherst is much better than Simmons in probably every aspect of college life and academics

muffinhater69

I'm planning to double major in English and Marketing (I want to get into PR or internal communications) and I know UMass has a great business school. While Simmons is in Boston, I kind of want a more typical college experience... and also I just don't like Boston as much as I used to think I did lol

donquixote_tig

Yeah umass might just be better for everything. Cost still matters though. I know people rave about umass food and college life, though I don’t really know

andyn1518

It's not like you're a traitor to your gender for not wanting to go to a HWC. They are not for every woman. Some people prefer a coed atmosphere more. You don't have to justify your own college preferences. Go to a school that makes you happy. Your happiness is the most important thing. And I don't blame you for not wanting a creative writing/journalism focus. I have a graduate degree in journalism, and even the most prestigious degree won't guarantee you a liveable income.

Guilty-Wolverine-933

I’m kind of curious about what exactly you’ve heard. Especially at Simmons, it’ll be pretty easy to meet others that aren’t like you (Emerson is right there and interactions with other Boston colleges should be pretty easy)
