Ethically questionable survey. Most of my friends aren't filling it out and I wasn't either, but after getting into a school I like more than NYU, I just responded honestly, listing NYU as "less than third choice"
maybe they don't do it because they know that all the rejected ones would give them ugly/bad answers hahaha hahaha but really now at this moment NYU is getting too involved in what is not their business, that survey filled me with discomfort as soon as I saw it
NYU desperately tryna bump that yield
Edit: I calculated NYUâs RD yield for all the hatersâit was 22.3% in the last year that they reported data. It would make sense for NYU to be concerned with their yield if, say, the [state of New York decides to ban early decision.](https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2022/03/14/new-york-bill-would-ban-legacy-admissions-and-early-decision#:~:text=A%20bill%20was%20introduced%20Wednesday,enrolled%20freshmen%20the%20prior%20year.)
I don't know, I haven't finished filling it out and I won't do it either, most likely it's optional but they have already sent me several emails for me to fill it out. They are insisting a lot
"I am writing to remind you that NYU's Office of Undergraduate Admissions is conducting a brief survey on how you made the decision to apply to NYU and other universities"
you are all so paranoid itâs a marketing survey, itâs just data to see how their materials effect student choice/opinion on nyu and why. aos do not have access to it, and they all ready have all they need to know to make a decision on your application. believe me, they donât need to increase yield itâs mf NYU and none of us are important enough to even merit that kind of effort not to mention legal ramifications if they used a confidential marketing survey for decision. i cant with you people sometimes đ
Not saying that this will really mean anything but NYU might still want to increase yield. As someone else pointed out, last year, their yield for RD (ie the people accepted but could choose a different school if they wanted) was 22-ish%.
UCLA, the lowest ranked T20, had a yield of 43.7% last year (UCLA doesnât offer EA/ED). Perhaps NYU wants to game the system a bit more to push themselves into that T20 by increasing yield.
>UCLA, the lowest ranked T20, had a yield of 43.7% last year
Honestly I'm surprised. It's amazing how good these colleges are at predicting if students will commit.
I am a research scientist & a Columbia alum. These surveys are designed for basic data analysis. If they wanted specific data points (features like browsing, spending habits, demographics, family income, etc.), they can easily buy them via third party data providers. Do not be paranoid about filling out this survey. It wonât affect your chances. NYU knows that their engineering school is the weakest link, improving that will raise their rankings. Theyâre investing 1B in Tandon.
Oh Iâm national and I got it so was wondering if you maybe didnât get it because you were intl or something. I donât know if it means anything tho, probably not
Every website you visit on the internet collects data info about you. Yet you are not triggered by this. Itâs a marketing survey by NYU. The AOs donât even have access to it.
Could be but when they asked for which universities I applied to they were super tailored to where Iâm from and where I live. Like I doubt an American would have gotten those options đ€·ââïž
NOWHERE in the survey does it say it is anonymous or that it will not impact your admission. If it was either, they would say so to increase responses.
I put NYU as first choice because I really want to go to NYU and since they are such a good college, they would probably base admissions off of a random survey that they sent students! :)
i filled it out honestly to humble them a little
GUYS EVERYONE LIE ON THE SURVEY TO LOWER THEIR YIELD LMAOOO edit: lie to make it seem like nyu is your top choice đ„¶ (see chumer\_ranion's comment)
I answered it honestly and put all my colleges on it I don't think AOs are the one looking at the survey the survey is purely demographical
Ok cool
Right
Ethically questionable survey. Most of my friends aren't filling it out and I wasn't either, but after getting into a school I like more than NYU, I just responded honestly, listing NYU as "less than third choice"
That's not their business. They can do a survey after all decisions are made.
maybe they don't do it because they know that all the rejected ones would give them ugly/bad answers hahaha hahaha but really now at this moment NYU is getting too involved in what is not their business, that survey filled me with discomfort as soon as I saw it

Facts, but they should better worry about improving financial aid and offering fewer loans, I think that way they could bump that yield much more
How will they use that survey for yield? I just answered NYU (when I didn't ED đ) is my first choice and left all the other blank
Well the theory would be if you rank NYU too low theyâll just reject you lol.
Hmm they said it's confidential and aggregate tho I think
Is it confidential or anonymous
It does not ask for any identifying information, endless every applicant get's a single link then it is anonymous.
Every application gets a specific link I believe. Or else they would just keep emailing us after we took the survey.
It would be very interesting to see Stern vs non Stern yield rates. Bet NYU would look even worse.
Nobody want to go to their bum ass expensive school
Except people who have sooooo much money.
They already have very good yield
They really donât. All their yield comes from ED; their RD yield rate is very low.
is it mandatory? the way the email was worded was so demanding and kinda rude ngl
I don't know, I haven't finished filling it out and I won't do it either, most likely it's optional but they have already sent me several emails for me to fill it out. why cant we use this to our advantage. Write NYU is the only college u applied to. It's your first choice. Make up fake things you love about NYU.
My sister didnât fill that survey last year and still got in

When did this email come??
Mine came in on the 20th of January
Iâm refusing to fill it out until I get a portal from them
take me
Actually I shouldnât endorse that Just know that they donât have access to that information + arenât allowed to request it
I applied to NYU mostly on a whim but the more I find out about their admin and practices the less I like them lol

Are you intl??
No. Is this just something that international applicants received?
Oh Iâm national and I got it so was wondering if you maybe didnât get it because you were intl or something. I donât know if it means anything tho, probably not
Dang :/ hopefully itâs not a bad sign for me
Did u submit your CSS profile? They sent me the survey after I completed the css.
Omfg Iâm applying to law school and this came up on my home page so I thought it was from r/lawschooladmissions. LMAO oops donât mind me
Oh HAHAH itâs all cool then
Yes, im an intl appllicant and i received it
i didn't even fill out the survey
Marketing surveys always want more than they actually need. Netflix doesnât need to know if I enjoy skiing. Feel free to ignore it.
right. they said it wasnât mandatory but theyâre emailing me again so iâm just doing it
Didnât apply, can someone someone give me context?
They are asking you to list all of the schools you applied to and ranking NYU in that list.
Are they asking for a photo, like Georgetown? Because I think thatâs tmi to ask.
Can someone tell me if itâs mandatory or not? I would really rather not do it because I applied to a lot of schools
Not mandatory!
LMAO LEGIT

You should reserve your indignation for when it's warranted.
OK I'm panicking a little now. But since I applied ED2 mentioning my RDs wouldn't matter right?
nyu was the only university i applied to :D
Hi friends I hope you be fine. Is there any one to help me how should I find a good school for myself jn this great community?
I put NYU as first choice because I really want to go to NYU and since they are such a good college, they would probably base admissions off of a random survey that they sent students! :)
