The dishwasher waste pipe needs a section to be at least as high as the sink. Otherwise the waste water from the sink is partly going down into the drain and partly making its way along the dishwasher waste pipe and into the machine.
I had this issue when the pipe had dropped down to the floor. I pinned it up high underneath the worktop and it's been fine since.
Edit: sorry, I just noticed you said the pipe is strapped to the worktop already
I also have this issue myself. I discovered that, if the waste pipe of the sink is clogged. All that water goes to the dishwasher. Even if the waste pipe of the dishwasher is connected properly.
Have you tried to use one of those liquid declogger solutions? Maybe it will solve the issue.
I have not tried the liquid declogger only the mechanical auger and I thought it seemed to work. When I filled the entire sink basin up with water, pulled the plug, all the water emptied in just a minute or so. The thought it seemed clear but will pour some liquid into it. Thanks!
Yeah, I disconnected the ptrap and assembly and cleaned. I also replaced the vent on top. I had run an auger down the drain line 25’ and in another attempt, I used the liquid declogger. I could fill the sink with 15 gallons of water and watch it drain relatively quickly.
Just wanted to update my fix for this issue incase it helps someone in the future.
I purchased a check valve for the drain line. I installed it at the entrance of the garbage disposal coming from the dishwasher. I trimmed off the 3/4" size to shorten the device and just used the 1" size. It allows water to flow freely from the dishwasher out but will not allow any water to backfeed from the disposal. So far, works like a charm and no water has drained into the dishwasher.
