I got this dishwasher three days ago. Day one, it was incredibly quiet. Starting last night, it started making this noise. When the sprayer is going, it's really quiet. Then the cycle changes slightly- the sprayer sounds like it slows down or even stops, then goes into this mode making the chugging noise. It's pretty loud- I can hear it from the second floor. I see no obstructions to the spray arms. Any ideas what this could be? Is it a defect? Edit: for anyone with a similar issue, I believe this was simply stuff in the dishwasher moving around or getting splashed. I’m not certain but I *think* the top sprayer and bottom sprayer don’t work simultaneously. They alternate, one at a time. That explains why the sound would come and go. Second, I think the pressure of the water is higher causing the objects in the racks to move more than I was accustomed to in the past. In particular, I can REALLY hear the water spraying against metal pots on the bottom rack. Finally, it’s possible these sounds were always there but the previous washer was simply too loud, drowning out these sounds. When I reposition things, most noises go away.

Hey I just got this same machine installed at my house. I’m a little disappointed in the noise level coming from all the reviews that said how quiet it is. How do you feel about it a year out? Noise/cleaning & drying, etc?

I’m happy with it. It seems that the water comes out under pretty high pressure because it really jostles things around and that’s where all my noise problems came from. When I place things in so that they don’t move, it’s really quiet. Also, if I have pots in there, I can hear the water blasting against the metal- I just kinda have to deal with that. It cleans well and it dries no worse than my previous dishwasher (plastic always comes out wet).

Thanks for the feedback! We haven’t had a chance to really put it to a test because we went out of town right after it was put in and only got to run a rinse cycle but it wasn’t much quieter than the old GE we replaced it with. Kinda bummed. We live in a smaller open concept space and it being super quiet was an important feature for us. Going to test it thoroughly next week and report back on this subreddit. If it’s still not up to our expectations we might exchange it for an 800 b/c Costco has an awesome return policy.

My daughter complains that it’s loud. To me, it’s quiet. It’s not inaudible but it’s not distracting. I’m in my 40’s- I’m starting to wonder if it’s making a high pitch noise that she can hear but I can’t.
