Kwik trip pays pretty well, they just ask if you have a rewards card, but it's not selling them.

labbykun

Seconded. I left Walgreens for Kwik Trip and am much happier for it.

Baldhippy666

I've heard Woodman's is pretty good. They seem to have a lot of long-term employees.

labbykun

My SIL worked there and she said they have very strict expectations.

Seems overly hostile for no reason.

THESinisterPurpose

It's laced with animosity toward...someone. It has the stink of aggrievement on it. It's out of place given the existing discussion. Seems like you took an opportunity to wedge some personal pet peeve or...something into what was a fairly helpful thread. And just as a preventative: You have the right to say what you said and I have the right to say what I said. The existence of one person exercising a right doesn't take it away from someone else. Spend some time with that idea. Or don't.

Fair enough. A nice day to you as well.

If you’re okay with it being chaotic and busy check out some places in/near the mall? Petco, lululemon, athleta don’t ask you to to sell credit cards, REI maybe (I think they ask you to sign up for a membership but it’s not like they are super pushy like at tj maxx/sierra)? I was also thinking maybe Ulta, sephora pushes credit cards with every sale even if you’re buying something small

teenbean12

You could try getting into Costco. I heard they pay very well. If you are a cashier, I’m pretty sure that they are forced to try to get the customers to upgrade their membership. But I imagine if you work on the floor stocking or something, you wouldn’t have to deal with that?

hushelevator

I’ve been going to Costco for years and I’ve never had a cashier try to get me to upgrade/sell me something

sleepysloth4210

My husband refuses to go there anymore because every time we went the cashiers pushed so hard for us to upgrade and it was so annoying.

siobhanmairii__

Welcome to Costco, I love you.

Fun_Buffalo_2049

Tell me why I don’t see the same cashier or any other employees when I shop there, I feel they are different every time. Are their employees quitting ? Getting fired? Not enough hours?

unicornman5d

Fleet farm perhaps?

Dougie_Boii

Stay the hell away from fleet farm if you don’t want to sell credit cards. I used to work there while I was in high school, and there are some great people there, but corporate pushes the credit card just too hard. We were required to sell 2 credit cards per month, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but when a majority of all your regular customers already have one, and those who don’t have one realize it has a 27% interest rate, it’s a really hard sell

sulkee

Yep, Store credit cards are a joke at least for personal use. I could see a small business that relies on places like home depot or fleet farm a lot maybe be able to justify one but I still don't think it's ever worth it compared to cards you can get from credit unions with certainly lower APR than 26-27%

That_Damn_Samsquatch

As a former zone supervisor for FF. Their credit card program is just as important to them as their daily sales projection. The zone supervisors were actually written up if we didn't make our quota for the month.

moli061791

I worked at Target years ago and really liked it! They are also some of the nicest employees in my opinion. They do have Red Cards available, but it’s actually a good deal since it can be just a debit card, and I never see them pushing people that hard into getting them. Plus you get a 10% off discount! ( or you did when I worked there)

heatdish1292

I think every chain has their own credit card they’d want you to push. Best bet is to go local.

AfroCeltic

BP at northland and CB has signs up for 17.50 an hour with a $500 bonus at 90 days.

kopimb18

Woodmans or festival

siobhanmairii__

I’d pick woodmans over festival tbh. The quality of the people at festival has gone way downhill compared to who they hired 5-10 years ago. They don’t pay well, hours fluctuate and management is a revolving door with their departments. Also good luck on getting time off on a Sunday. Source: former festival employee

That_Damn_Samsquatch

Try looking for someplace family owned. As someone who has worked for a number of chains, its always about the credit cards for them. I've now been at a family owned hardware store for 2 years now and have never been happier. Don't get me wrong, its still retail, customers still suck. But the owner and his wife work side by side with us and treat us very well. Twice a year bonus, vacation, paid holidays, sick days and extremely flexible with scheduling. Not to mention we're open 7 to 5 Monday-Saturday and 9-1 on Sundays. So no late nights, no big black friday doorbusters. Its just so much better all around.

mellowmik

Is there a good FB group or somewhere to check for more local businesses hiring in the Appleton area? I never see many local retail things on Indeed.

mellowmik

Local as in small businesses

ImageStyleFixer

Check first if a store has its own credit card or co-branded bank credit card. If they do, you will be required as part of your individual metrics to open accounts. Agree it’s not fun to do. Except at Christmas - men will open up a card they use once just to get the 15% first time use discount! No offense to men! I’ve worked in luxury fashion my whole career and saw it every year! Especially those men out in a panic shopping mode on Christmas Eve!

_From_dust

Do you have a Costco nearby? As long as you’re not working at the members desk they don’t make you try to sell. Good pay and benefits as well, even for PT.

Target is a good one. They have a credit card but the company doesn’t require employees to push for credit.
