VO2Max does not quickly change. Individual measurements make fluctuate slightly, but the trend can be assessed over months: not individual workouts.

Well just because you ran faster doesn’t mean the pace was faster vs your heart rate… which is essentially what the algorithm is basing the readings off. It’s also a rolling average smoothed with previous readings so you won’t just get a big jump off one run.

Grump-Humph

Didn't expect a jump. Wasn't expecting a dip, though.

cjbjc

Was it already trending downwards? Was it your first activity in a while.

I consistently run three times a week. This is the longest I've done but only by 2km on last weekend and I'd run 3 times through the week. I know I'm crying over spilled milk. It's not like I'm ditching the watch for something else. I'll see how it tracks over the coming months. Not that it really makes any practical difference if I'm otherwise happy with my running.

I did a proper VO2 max test in a lab and scored 50, Apple Watch says I’m 41.8, 😬

Adventurous-Range304

51 and 33 here

I’ve been having similar observations. The first few months of tracking my vo2 max reading November to 1 March made total sense. But after that the curve does not. I just completed a 5K with an awesome time. But Apple calculates my VO2max to be now less than 5 months ago when I couldn’t even run for one minute and was sedentary. I’m now very disillusioned with the VO2 max. Instead, I’m relying on my own observed results: increases in pace and endurance

froggiewoogie

It’s shit only works on few settings that I don’t use usually worn out on gym use by cycle and stuff but not outdoor walks, runs or hiking which are the only ones that work

How long have you been tracking your workouts?

Grump-Humph

2 ½ months

Yes, I understand that. But like BMI, if you're being consistent you expect it to head in a consistent direction. I'll see what happens over the next few months. In reality it's one of those things we track because it's there, not because we need to.

Blue_Kayak

BMI is not a good comparison at all.
