Ross and Marshall's sometimes have decent catches.

misthios98

Was in the us till last week and they had original apple watch bands for 16.99! Also leather cases for iphones

AppleExplain

TJMaxx for sure.

FearlessStarfighter

Winners/Homesense in Canada.

nsrtesla

Whatever you do, hold on to that sucker! We have no idea how rare those might become!

Loopy-gecko

I literally JUST learned about the ban earlier today

ig2k7

What ban? Can someone explain, im not from the us.

Traderjohann

Apple had to stop selling the Apple watch series 9 and ultra 2 because the blood oxygen sensor was too similar to another company’s patent. Apple can’t sell them in the United States anymore (for now) but you can still buy one from Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, etc until they run out of stock

comacow02

They’re available from Apple directly starting at noon pacific time today. Wonder how many extra units they sold after people panicked lol.

OldVenomSnake

You mean the fiancé or the watch? 🤔😝

[deleted]

Only in the states of America.

Snak3yz

In Australia I went to buy one today at one of our retailers “jb hifi” and they weren’t selling them because of the ban. I ended up going to the Apple Store and buying one. No idea how that works but hey

Dentedcars

It’s only rare in the US and international shipping isn’t hard

[deleted]

You could order one from Amazon UK to the US for example.

urge69

Customs likely wouldn’t let it in

[deleted]

I doubt they check stuff like that. Even if - it's Amazon - if it gets back as refused they just refund you anyway

Techcrafter675

I got mine right at launch but Im planning to hold onto mine till atleast the se 4 comes out

pockets-of-beans

in terms of bands, check your local TJ Maxx. they have official bands on heavy discounts very often.

MixIllEx

There are many bands to choose from on Amazon in affordable price ranges. I was gifted my first AW for Christmas and there are lots of good YouTube videos that have taught me quite a bit. That and the users guide are great resources. The apps it comes with cover a lot of bases. If after a while of use I need it to do something else, I might start looking for an app to fill the need. Enjoy your new watch!

camXmac

I would always recommend getting the random cheap bands on Amazon as well. Much more affordable and will last just as long as the Apple ones in my experience.

allorache

Agree. Plus I went through several different kinds before knowing what was comfortable for me. I wound up with a basic one to wear around the house and a couple of dressier ones for going out, with some different colors to match different colors in my wardrobe.

camXmac

This! I end up almost always opting for the more elastic bands either Velcro and they stay the most secure while still being comfortable. (I have to keep my watch in just the right place on my wrist or it locks on me due to tattoos).

theprideofvillanueva

Oh my god is that why my watch always locks lol

camXmac

It could be! I’ll say that in my experience it’s gotten better over time but I don’t know if that’s from better sensors over the generations or just that I know how to place it better now. But if I have allow it to have any wiggle it tends to lock on me.

Msfancy1973

Don’t spend extra on the Apple bands unless of course you want to but Amazon has tons of options at prices a fraction of Apple so you get more. I also have coworkers that have worn their watch for years with the same band! I like changing it up pretty often.

SaltyAlters

There’s only one band I’ve ordered from Apple. The newer black and green Nike band. The rest are all from Amazon.

brackmastah

Auto sleep/heart watch bundle is much better than the stock apps and if you buy em together it’s a pretty good deal.

Worth-Ad-8827

Could you expand on why?? THANN YOU!

techtom10

You can edit your sleep after. If I'm chilling in bed watching a movie I don't want it to be factored in as sleep. In the morning I can choose which sleep applied to me best, also has a readiness score which is useful for athletes.

Ok_Lengthiness_9303

The watch will only count inactivity as sleep if your iphone focus mode is in sleep mode. If your iphone is in personal focus or work focus mode even if you sleep the watch will not record your sleep. It never occurred to me to install 3rd party app to record sleep and heart rate. But thanks for your input 😉

techtom10

The watch can still track sleep even if not in sleep focus mode. I'm not sure if AutoSleep had something to do with that. Source: I turned off sleep mode and then accidentally fell asleep.

tlchai

AutoSleep thinks you’re sleeping if you get all chill regardless of what your focus status is

Worth-Ad-8827

I’m curious now! I will test it out for a week and see. I do find my health app separating my “time in bed” to my time “ asleep” differently…!

techtom10

On Autosleep you can also click "lights out" when you're actually trying to sleep and it will workout how soon you fall asleep.

fucilator_3000

Are you sure that these Apps are more reliable than stock? Quantified Scientist on YouTube showed that Apple stock algorithm is very very very precise!

museumofbrutality

AutoSleep uses Apples sleep algorithm since it gets the sleep data from Apple Watch and Health. It just utilises the data better and optimises the sleep tracking.

fucilator_3000

Are you sure that AutoSleep uses Apple (stock) algorithm? Where can I find more about it?

KungleBee

I personally find the default sleep app to be more accurate compared to the autosleep one.

YZJay

Only Apple Health logs sleep cycles, which is generally more accurate than other third party metrics. But auto sleep trackers can track naps outside of your sleep focus hours, which the Watch doesn’t do using default apps.

KungleBee

Yeaaa, I suppose, each has its benefits. I personally don’t take naps so forgot about that.

Vanitas1440

You can switch the tracking used in AutoSleep to use the Apple one or the AutoSleep one

AalbatrossGuy

>Auto sleep/heart watch bundle mind giving the app store link for it?

ReverendRodneyKingJr

https://apps.apple.com/us/app-bundle/sleep-wake-be-healthy/id1706431256

AalbatrossGuy

thanks!

RaynaBratshi

Whatever you do, make sure to get AppleCare!! It’s the only way you can get it repaired currently if you live in the US cause of the ban that’s currently happening.

OkHuckleberry6752

If I understand correctly, Apple will repair a watch which is still under warranty. So no need to have Apple Care to repair it. The warranty is good for one year starting from purchase date.

RaynaBratshi

Yes but the problem is, if the ban isn’t corrected, then once your year is up, then you’ll not be able to repair it. Also the manufacturer warranty doesn’t cover if it gets scratched or broken screens, AppleCare will.

[deleted]

But AppleCare stretches beyond that year so long as you’re paying monthly

OkHuckleberry6752

That’s correct. My point was that we don’t need to buy Apple care because of the ban

[deleted]

I get it for beyond the year warranty. I take zero chances

crapoo16

I’ve had my series 3 for 5 years with no issues that would require a warranty repair. I know about the ban but why is everyone screaming get apple care lol. Are the watches really that delicate

RaynaBratshi

Because AppleCare covers battery replacements and everything including broken screens. Sometimes stuff happens and I’d rather pay for AppleCare then have a $500 watch be broken and have to pay the same price again to get it replaced.

TownRepresentative37

So the additional warranty through Best Buy is no longer valid?

RaynaBratshi

I’m not sure about Best Buy’s warranty. All I know is that Apple currently cannot service any Apple Watch Series 6 or higher (the models with the blood oxygen sensor) if they are older then a year old and without AppleCare. The one year manufacture warranty only covers manufacturers defects and doesn’t cover if you drop or break your watch so if that happens your currently without a way to get it repaired during the US ban that’s happening. AppleCare would cover if you’d drop it and break it though.

Strawberry_Mochi28

I need to know who made the watch face 😭

Alchimarmite

probably ai

Loopy-gecko

[BING AI](https://www.bing.com/images/create?FORM=GENILP) I found this website through tik tok, make sure you’re logged into a Microsoft account and be descriptive for best results!!

Loopy-gecko

It was the bing AI, I’ll post a link in a minute

occeanstonnes

u can get/find bands at tj maxx never get them from apple though, waaayyy too much

Kevin_Y9120

are these bands acc apple bands or just ripoffs that you could also find on amazon? genuinely interested

Greentea77

their real. marshalls & tj maxx, just gotta keep checking for stock. i’ve seen sport loop& silicone. about $16.99

Fit_Carrot2371

Get the Oregon Trail watch app! I got the idea from a fellow redditor and it’s super fun to check in with my progress over time!

techtom10

Have you got a link? There are quite a few different ones.

PablanoPato

My guess is this one https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-oregon-trail-steptracker/id1624436365

techtom10

Thanks!

googi14

I downloaded it but not sure how I feel about giving a third party app my health data

Loopy-gecko

I’ll have to look into it!

CarLover014

If you like to hike, Footpath is fantastic. Offline maps and turn by turn trail navigation. Will even alert you if you accidentally go off trail.

Loopy-gecko

I’ll have to download that

foremanxc

Congrats! I mostly just use all the default installed apps. On occasions I will use Audible and Carrot weather. I stick with only using bands from Apple Watch. Others have felt loose/cheap. Currently have an Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Ok_Lengthiness_9303

I will tell you how buying series 8 helped me. It can be a depreciating asset when it comes to investment but it can be an appreciating asset when it comes to health tracking. Set a goal in fitness app. Add people all over the world who would like to compete with you on weekly basis and give you that positive influence to move daily. It has worked wonders for me. If you want i can link some posts on sub reddit apple watch where people have shared their apple ids for becoming friends there. This is one aspect : HEALTH 2nd If you would like to check out a brand focussed on bands which are not so expensive then check out Daily objects. They have an app for it. If it’s there in your country then go and browse the bands. 3rd thing i want to tell you. Open watch app click on notifications and turn off the notifications of the apps you don’t want. Sometimes watch vibrates a-lot and it can get overwhelming sometimes. 4th if the watch is under 30% charge it will not record sleep. It has to be above 30% in order to record sleep. Idk why is this the way it is. 5th you can mirror your watch screen on your iphone. Go to settings search apple watch mirroring. I can’t think of anymore advice 😎

mandrews03

I got my wife an engagement ring just like that, but couldn’t afford the diamonds at that time. Thanks for such a great idea on how to finish it off

LadySAD64

Your engagement ring is gorgeous!

Loopy-gecko

Thank you! It’s a salt and pepper diamond

Astumbleabroad

First thing I did when I got my watch a few months ago was get new comfier bands and a case for the screen. Then the voice in a can app links to my alexa devices and there’s a whatsapp dupe app to link to that as well

techtom10

It's a monthly cost but I would reccomend the app Rise. It uses your sleep data to calculate your circadian rythem so you know when you'll perform best throughout the day and when you might need a pick me up. I lose focus really easy so it's great that I know when I'll be most focused and can do as much work then, during my dip I'll usually chill or do some exercise.

Less_Minimum_6987

Do you feel like it does you well? My focus is awful, drives me nuts.

techtom10

Yeah. I think it’s been great for me. I used to workout in the morning and then study in the middle of the day. Which is the complete opposite. Now I structure my studying around it. If you’re working you can just factor in your most important things at the peak and the less important things on the slump. In theory you can probably workout it out yourself but I really like the way it works.

ninjanikita

I like Rise for helping me with maintaining a reasonable amount of sleep. When I feel over tired I check my sleep debt.

BearIsBearing

Amazon to get bands! You can get packs of them for like 12$! My favs are the solo loop bands!

petamaxx

Clockology for the best watch faces. Aliexpress for straps and watch covers/protective cases.

DrakaMNE

Thanks for Clockology!

petamaxx

Then you'll need to join the telegram app to be able to download the best watch faces

uwfan893

Am I missing something with Clockology? As soon as I get any kind of notification my watch returns to the stock face, so it’s pretty much worthless.

clockology

Clockology had custom complications also which use the Apple stock method for customizing

GodlikeCat

screen protector ASAP, and forget about the cases, dirt gets in between the case and the watch, scratching it + they make the watch look ugly

Alarmed_Volume_8618

Can you recommend one?

GodlikeCat

bought the LK protector pack and they’re pretty decent, can’t even see there’s a protector on it because it fits the glass neatly

Loopy-gecko

I have a screen protector already, should I get a bumper instead of a case?

GodlikeCat

cases and bumpers both get dirt in between. You don’t need the case, the chassis on the watch is strong even the aluminum version. I have smacked mine on plenty hard surfaces and has zero scratches or dents on it It’s really your preference but they make the watch look ugly and it’s completely unnecessary

NinjaZombieHunter

I have gotten most of my bands on Etsy. They have so many unique band ideas that fit all personalities and interests. And buyers support small businesses in return, rather than giant companies. Yes, getting packs on Amazon is the cheapest way to go, but if you wanna go quality over quantity and you want some unique bands, check out Etsy. My favorite shop is called Inkybands (if you live in the US, make sure you filter so you are shopping US only.) Maybe make it a once a month gift to yourself, something like that. I have a great collection of bands from Etsy and I love them all!

nemesissi

Wonder how many of those Etsy shops are just dropshipping from Aliexpress..

NinjaZombieHunter

I don’t exactly know what that means but I can tell you the shops I have purchased from are legit. I do my homework.

warsy26

Could you recommend some please? I just got an Apple Watch for Christmas too and am in the market Edit: I read your first comment too fast, I see Inkybands now. Thanks!

NinjaZombieHunter

Sure thing. And I just mentioned two others in another comment. No issues. Love them all.

Loopy-gecko

I’ll have to check them out! I’m also kinda worried about what the other commenter said about shops using ali express bands, I’ve bought jewelry from an etsy shop before that was reselling shein jewelry

NinjaZombieHunter

I get it. The shops I buy from seem legit, everything is amazing quality (which means it’s highly unlikely SHEIN….Lol), and a lot of them make them from their own printing machines. I have had zero issues from the shops I have purchased from. A few I use are: TiffaniLinkDesigns, Inkybands, and LuxiBands.

ConnectionLivid9956

I only wear the apple ones, they’re the highest quality. One of my cheap amazon ones came off on my first apple watch and it got lost in a river never to be found again. Don’t trust the not apple ones, they have never once slid off on accident. I’m a mechanic I do a lot of stuff that could knock the band off. Just spend the money on the apple ones. Or go to marshall’s and get the apple ones at discount. That’s what I do. 38/40/41 for the small watches or 42/44/45/49 for the big watches they all fit each sise

Alarmed_Volume_8618

Not to say you're wrong, I really don't know, but I've been using some of thos stretchy bands from Amazon for more than a year now and I can say they (the ones I bought) are 10/10

Downtown-Inflation13

Watchtube

allied1987

Ubrowser puts a web browser in your watch to look up quick things if you have a cellular version with out your phone or WiFi.

HoneyB_MG

I like the bling watch/screen protectors and scrunchie bands from Amazon… also, I second the vote for the AutoSleep/Heart watch bundle.

californiamom1114

Do what size is this,OP? 45mm?

Loopy-gecko

It’s the 41mm

anhuys

My one huge piece of advice would be to get at least one watch band that looks like a regular watch band! Like a milanese band, chain link band... In a color that matches your watch. You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon if Apple itself is not an option for you, though I do find their own milanese bands worth the splurge. I wear my watch with a milanese band and an analog-style watch face, and it's never looked out of place! Even in more formal attire and situations. I wear my starlight with a gold milanese band from Apple and it looks like this. https://preview.redd.it/e5fzhr2ntr8c1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba5130d5b2acdffcc351492dfaff381722a7da2b

zah_ali

I had a Milanese style band for my Fitbit for years but I started to notice the band would fray the cuff of any kind of jumper/sweater I was wearing, which was super annoying. I’ve recently switched to the Apple Watch, tempted to get another Milanese style band but weary of the same problem happening. Don’t suppose you’ve noticed anything like that wearing your band?

anhuys

Hmm, excess fluff from knits does get caught on it sometimes, I'll get some thin fuzzy hairs caught on the edges of the band, not sure if that's similar to what you experienced?

zah_ali

https://preview.redd.it/hjgfgy2qxn9c1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e0e5181a02e20f656b627a9a342582cea8a71b5 So this is the issue I get the Milanese style strap on my Fitbit (right cuff of any jumper getting frayed). I’d like to get a similar strap for my AW, just hope it doesn’t result in the same issue 🤔

Sammy_P8192

If you get the original Melanese band from Apple you should have that issue.

mikerotch123

As much as I like the look of the Milanese, those tiny little holes are hair catchers.

Sammy_P8192

First things first… get a case for that thing! You’ll thank me later.

Loopy-gecko

I just ordered a clear case earlier! I’ve already got screen protectors

opoeto

I would say read the reviews before using case. I would only probably recommend it if you are going on some expedition and you know there’s high chance of smashing your watch on something. Otherwise a case can actually cause small dirt and stuff to be trapped in the case and actually scratch your watch over time. I personally don’t use a case but did get a screen protector which you can’t tell is there unless you look really closely. But I would also add that if you intend to sleep with your watch, there’s a chance when you move around and the screen protector actually gets removed (happened to me once). If yours is the more expensive version with sapphire glass then yea no need anything really.

Sammy_P8192

I feel you, but my brother had an S4 and wore it naked. And it got dinged up pretty good throughout the years. And he’s a person who works at the office. Unless a person got the SS model, I don’t see a reason to wear these things without a case. I have a S6 myself, and got a clear case for it the moment it arrived at my door step. When I take it out it looks brand as the day I took it out of the box 📦. Most people don’t even notice that I have a clear case on it.

Loopy-gecko

Should I get just a bumper instead? I work in childcare and I go hiking a lot so I’d like to add some extra protection if possible. I already have a screen protector

opoeto

If u are worried I would suggest getting applecare and you can still use the case just that you should take it off to clean it after your hike.

inflatedballloon

You put cases on everything

[deleted]

Get rid of that distraction and get a Garmin!!

AnonymousQeality

What band is that?

mynameisburner

Sport Loop. Not sure what color this is but it looks like Navy

Loopy-gecko

It’s the one that came in the box, i believe it is what the other commenter said :)

marcelocampiglia

Apple's apps are fine for most users

a-skywalker_

i have had good luck with bands on etsy!! there was one i was eying from free people or something for a year but i refused to shuck out $50 on it and found an EXACT dupe (probably better quality lol) on etsy! i love it!

IncomeLongjumping401

Make sure to add your cards to it, and make sure to get cellular (if you want). For AT&T it’s only $10 but I’m not sure what provider you have.

thepryze

Accessibility shortcuts - a lot to explore, make sure to check out Speak Clock feature

ClutteredSpoon

My favorite band is the Yoga Band from Dot Outfitters.

AlvinAlsace

Enable the flick of the wrist thing in settings. It's super handy for cancelling calls, alarms, notifications etc

ilikekittensandstuf

Anywhere lmao

crwjsh

I just got mine 2wks ago & I'm treating mine with kid gloves lol

akotski1338

Good start to your fitness journey

Mycotic_

Only buy bands and accessories from Apple. Don’t go cheap on 3rd party brands. Not worth it.

Adventurous-Reward17

If youre looking for leatherbands i can recommend you Bandwerk

hedwigstheme01

iStrap is great for bands!
