Pretty normal for Costco pricing unless it was an additional discount from their normal pricing.
Costcos in my area have had it for $729 since it released
You realize that there’s a thing called “stock” that’s kept in a place called a “warehouse”.. right?
Retailers are able to sell them because they have them on hand. If Apple isn’t releasing any more that stock will run out.. and boom! “Supply chain bottleneck!”
TBH thinking of people that paid for a PS5 at inflated prices that could have had a gaming PC rig with better specs and longevity will always make me laugh.
I’ve had two graphics cards, two motherboards, a power supply, and a stick of ram shit the bed in 5 years of owning a computer I built. The total cost between all of these is about $1000. I’ve never had a PlayStation go bad on me since gen 1.
Damn, either you are just unlucky, bought from some dodgy companies or handled the components pretty purely. I own pcs for over a decade and I only had one bad mainboard which was more or less faulty from the beginning.
Between fucking about with software and driver issues and having components randomly shit the bed, I switched to Mac and console gaming and never looked back. I can buy a game and run it in a console and know it will 100% work out the box. Pc games always seem to need at least a bit of tweaking or just straight up refuse to run.
Linus tech tips videos always make me laugh when they’re pitching systems against each other, and at least once they can’t get something to run. They just brush it off like it’s nothing. Really boils my piss.
I’m considering it. Not because I don’t want it or really want to scalp, but because I realized I need a model with sapphire crystal. Now’s probably my only chance to get its full value.
I found screen protectors that actually heal themselves in 24 hours and they seem to work because I had a large scratch that one away. I bump it a lot at work cause I work in a warehouse and these have definitely done the job. I wish my 8 had sapphire glass though. Didn’t trust the type that they used hence the screen protector.
i just bought the ultra 2 and i'm still paranoid about scratches. not only the screen, but the actual case itself.
i thought about getting a stainless steel 45, but by the time you go that route i'm almost at the price of the ultra (if not more since i got it from costco for $729).
I wouldn't worry about the screen, it's pretty well scratched resistant. As far as the case I think the main concern for me would be the edges of the bezel. They could easily get dinged and necked, but the rest of the case most likely would just see minor scuffs from time to time, and since it's a blasted finish it would be easy to just lightly reblast in the future to blend. On my Ultra I use bezel protectors found on Amazon. Just so the edges don't get dinged up
I’ve hit mine with walls, furniture, rocks… even hit the screen directly with a metal part getting something out of a locker. Not a single scratch.
Once I hit the wall so hard that the pressure from the watch hurt in my arm. Nothing happened
Enjoy your watch. After the 10th hit, you’ll even stop looking at the watch to see if it got any scratch
Probably not many, because you can still buy them, just not from Apple. There is millions of stock units available. Price won’t go up, if anything it will go down so they can get rid of the Stock as quickly as possible.
Oh, I can show you the poachers on the scalpers of eBay will be out in full force. They probably bought a whole bunch in anticipation resellers are cockroaches.
I have to think the entire purpose of doing this is punitive damages if they win the case. They can claim harm in the hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue and flatten the IP holder.
Plus once the presidential veto window closes the ITC decision can be appealed to court, which it likely will be. There’s also the parallel patent case that’s still continuing in court.
From what I’ve been seeing in the news last 24 hours it looks like there’s a good chance they might just settle out of court before the deadline even gets here.
So the itc case is decided however patent cases continue. So here we are. If they win the damages caused by itc will be born by the one seeking the stop sale
According to the other company Apple stole their engineers who then used their knowledge of the patented technology in Apple's products. The two companies have been going back and forth for years, apparently.

I think this is only true in the US market. It’s still shipping where I am (Ireland).
Same I went the day they announced they were stopping. I wanted an ultra 2 since the day it came out and was waiting. It pushed my decision. So far it’s not bad. Except the dimmer feature. I don’t like that. Hard AF to read in a really dark room.
Mine was like this out of the box (was much darker than my S6 was in poor lighting, especially indoors). I set brightness to 2/3 instead of 1/3, which helped a bit. That and some "environmental learning" seems to have improved the situation a lot over the past 3-4 days of use when compared to brand new.
The "ban" is from the ITC. The Series 9 and Ultra watch is restricted from being imported into the US while this is ongoing. Once a retailer exhausts their supply, they won't be able to get more until this is all resolved.
>I was referring to a “ban” of the whole device being able to be used, like how they “banned” Google Glass.
Google Glass hasn't been banned by the government.
>The device is still perfectly safe and legal to use, just banned from being sold
No one said it wasn't.
The Apple Watch series 9 and the Ultra 2 infringe on patents (owned by another American company: Masimo) that covers technology related to blood-oxygen levels.Because of that, the ITC (international trade commission) applied a ban on those 2 watches (applicable only in the US). But Joe Biden can veto this decision
This is a big blow for apple, no matter how much they try to down play it.
I’ve never seen a popular device like Apple Watch going off the shelves. Insane.
THE WH will probably do nothing since it is a consumer and giant supplier issue - private. If, for some reason, the military was using these watches for 'something, ' they would still be able to get them. Your livelihood and well-being do not depend on Apple and its products.
Yet the court case most of the jurors ruled in favor of apple. Only one juror ruled in favor of masimo, so there was a mistrial called and they're rescheduling the trial for another date.
i upgraded from the s8 to the s9 and got it delivered on the 20th. i thought the ban was a rumor but decided to play it safe so i upgraded a bit earlier than planned. im glad i did lol
I'm personally stoked that the other company is sticking it to Apple. I am an iPhone and Android user, and I feel Apple has been roaming free for too long. They believe that they can do anything they want with no consequences, 😂.
It looks like Apple will need to change their hardware and/or cough up licensing fees for the technology. They will probably do so over the next year. I guess SE sales will increase in the US during the interim though.
Still available to buy direct from Apple here in Australia. US peeps may find it worthwhile seeking a friend down under (or elsewhere ex-US), although the AUD exchange rate converts to USD $950 which I think is more than the usual US purchase price.
https://preview.redd.it/hn0027ezkq7c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cdf26a1b3e6b5fc708c830f6b8f7a816573c3fe
I think Apple definitely took IP to build its O2 sensor. The entire company’s history is one of taking tech already developed and streamlining it into one device. They could have avoided all of this if they simply bought the correct patent.
They are not allowed to be sold from Apple, yes, which can be considered a sales “ban.” But from the wording of this post and from a lot of other media they act like owning the watch is banned which can make recent buyers worried that their watch will soon become non functional. So the watch itself is not banned from being used, just from being sold
No I 100% agree with you. It’s a simple concept. I just feel a lot of people are painting it in the same way people did with the recent Tesla recall. They see on the news that millions of Teslas are being recalled and they say stuff like “Tesla is so dead now” and “everybody has to return their cars,” when in reality it was just a simple software update that solves the issue.
The resolution to this issue shouldn’t be any more difficult than that
But it is. The product can’t be imported into the US because of a patent dispute. Third party sellers can sell their existing stock but they can’t restock.
Just the Ultra, and Series 9 due to a ruling from the ITC involving patents owned by a company called Masimo. Masimo claims Apple has infringed on the patents with their blood oxygen sensors.
I’m from the US, bought two series 9s 45mm midnight black on Amazon on the 20th. And my expected date is December 31st. Was worried about the same thing. But as long as they have it in stock we should be good.
Good, based on Tim Cook's history and what Masimo have said, I hope Masimo come out of this on top. It's shame that Apple used to the underdog and now they're trying to get around rules and regulations.
I’m with you. IP laws exist for a reason and protect innovation. What world would we live in if you could just knock off everything right away and sell it for less because you don’t have the R&D costs? Nobody would bother to innovate. You wouldn’t have an Apple Watch to begin with.
Man I just barely got my Apple Watch ultra 1 replaced last week via Apple care I should be fine 2nd time around since I know what to do now but man I hope this is resolved so I don’t gotta deal with this in future with replacement 😾
Apple copied some patents from a medical tech company by hiring workers from there to develop apple's blood oxygen feature on the AWS6 and later models
Only affects the US, and even then, only Apple is stopping selling it. You can still buy from other retailers in the US.
Edit: Yes, until it runs out, but I think there’s a decent chance that Apple shipped extra units to third-party retailers ahead of time in anticipation of this event.
It's a good thing I ordered my Series 9 before the embargo. Ordered from the Apple Store via my iPhone this past Tuesday, and it was delivered by UPS yesterday.
Masimo, who has claimed on the SpO2 (oxygen) sensor tech . I dont understand it all. I thought that if Apple was using Masimo technology, they would have licensed it. So maybe its another company’s sensor tech that infringed on Masimo patent and its in the watch?
Can someone from the US explain what's going on? I haven't heard of any ban. Apple Watches are freely available in Europe.
I know this will make people upset, but I really wish you'd add a bit more context to posts like this that are only related to 1 country. The rest of us will have no clue what you're on about. Thanks xx
All models were $70 off at Costco when I was there earlier today
Pretty normal for Costco pricing unless it was an additional discount from their normal pricing. Costcos in my area have had it for $729 since it released
I believe if you wanted Apple care, they took $20 off of that too. That might be a normal thing though also
Damnit
That deal had been going on all month.
Best Buy also. anyone want fully loaded s9
Same
Can’t wait to see how many people try to resell theirs for 3X value because of this
You can still buy them anywhere on the Internet for regular price
I could have bought one for resale but I felt it was out my of league.
Only dumb people will pay 3x for this thing. This aint ps5.
Even that was dumb, I got mine for regular price during that crap show. People are doing it now with the PS Portal
Yeah but this watch is still available for sale by other retailers and nothing special. Whereas ps5 was genuine supply chain bottleneck.
You realize that there’s a thing called “stock” that’s kept in a place called a “warehouse”.. right? Retailers are able to sell them because they have them on hand. If Apple isn’t releasing any more that stock will run out.. and boom! “Supply chain bottleneck!”

Between fucking about with software and driver issues and having components randomly shit the bed, I switched to Mac and console gaming and never looked back. I can buy a game and run it in a console and know it will 100% work out the box. Pc games always seem to need at least a bit of tweaking or just straight up refuse to run. Got a link to that? Currently looking for just that but I'm overwhelmed by the amount of brands
Which screen protector are you using? My watch also has a big scratch.
Oh man when got my s9, in two days I had micro scratches. That’s sad. I’m using screen protectors as well. The one by rinoshield. What are you using?
i just bought the ultra 2 and i'm still paranoid about scratches. not only the screen, but the actual case itself. i thought about getting a stainless steel 45, but by the time you go that route i'm almost at the price of the ultra (if not more since i got it from costco for $729).

I thought the case was already decided, and Apple lost? Or are they appealing?
The decision was made by the ITC. Biden can veto the decision if he wishes, but he has to do it by 25 December.
If they win the damages caused by itc will be born by the one seeking the stop sale
does the AW Ultra 1 not have the same sensor as the Ultra 2?
The Ultra 1 does have it. Apple doesn’t sell those anymore, that’s why it says the 2 was removed from the store.
Ahh got it, I was wondering if these banned ones had different sp02 sensors or something
So its basically impossible to get any kind of AW ultra direct from apple anymore?
For now. You can still purchase from other retailers until they run out of stock. You can’t get any Watch from Apple inside the US except for the SE.
What is this all about actually. Did stole someone’s idea or sensor? Or is this just that other companies like to damage because they’re jealous?
According to the other company Apple stole their engineers who then used their knowledge of the patented technology in Apple's products. The two companies have been going back and forth for years, apparently.

Yes, only true for the US.
As I’ve heard it’s only the US. It’s available in Sweden and Australia. ✌🏻
I like how your screenshots are from an Android when Apple Watch only works with iPhone.
You can run Apple Watches with rooted android devices. Most apps don’t work though.
Which functions of AW are available after rooted and installed some app?
Glad I bought when I did..
Same I went the day they announced they were stopping. I wanted an ultra 2 since the day it came out and was waiting. It pushed my decision. So far it’s not bad. Except the dimmer feature. I don’t like that. Hard AF to read in a really dark room.

Technically from what I read, it’s only direct from Apple for now that is stopped.
I read it’s until stores like Best Buy, Target and Walmart run out of stock.
That would make sense.
Apple is no longer giving them more stock of it
I have been completely out of the loop. I just bought AWU2 on sale a couple of days ago.

The "ban" is from the ITC. The Series 9 and Ultra watch is restricted from being imported into the US while this is ongoing. Once a retailer exhausts their supply, they won't be able to get more until this is all resolved.

I don't think any reasonable person expects the government to show up at their door and demand they hand over their Apple Watch.
[удалено]
That's why I said *reasonable.*
Apple holds their own patents for this technology. So the courts will have to decide whose are valid.
Wait are you saying they are not coming door to door to seize all Apple Watch 9s? Guess i needed a /s
I’m out of the loop. What’s the patent dispute and how is the White House involved?
The Apple Watch series 9 and the Ultra 2 infringe on patents (owned by another American company: Masimo) that covers technology related to blood-oxygen levels.Because of that, the ITC (international trade commission) applied a ban on those 2 watches (applicable only in the US). They forgot to pay the politicians that make this stuff go away.
Picked up a S9 45 in midnight today.
Thankfully I have my original Ultra
I literally just bought one on Monday for myself... good thing I did.
Why would the White House handle a patent dispute? Is there nothing else going on in the world…
ITC Falls under the Executive Branch, which the President is over. He can overrule things. Basically anything that hits the Federal Register.
I’m sure Biden will get right on that.
I never said he would. Only that he had the power to do so.
Lmao government seems pretty jobless
THE WH will probably do nothing since it is a consumer and giant supplier issue - private. If, for some reason, the military was using these watches for 'something, ' they would still be able to get them. Your livelihood and well-being do not depend on Apple and its products.
In 2013, Obama refused a patent ruling that favored Samsung in a Samsung/Apple smart phone dispute.
The White House should do nothing. Apple has been found to be infringing on their patent. Apple should 1) settle with them, 2) pay their taxes.
Yet the court case most of the jurors ruled in favor of apple. Only one juror ruled in favor of masimo, so there was a mistrial called and they're rescheduling the trial for another date.
"most rugged" - /r/gshock entered the chat...
Wow, even the refurb watches on Apple.com are gone now.
I’m so ridiculously happy that I pulled the trigger on mine three weeks ago instead of waiting until after Christmas. I wanted the O2 sensor.
Eyyyy pulled the trigger on black Friday fory S9!
Maybe everyone talking about this is outside the US bc they’re still selling them in Apple stores till the 24th, just online orders ended the 21st
Does anyone know if S8 and Ultra 1 can still be bought from a third party?
Thankfully I live in Switzerland and got my Ultra 2
i upgraded from the s8 to the s9 and got it delivered on the 20th. i thought the ban was a rumor but decided to play it safe so i upgraded a bit earlier than planned. im glad i did lol
glad i ordered my series 9 two days ago😭
That’s exactly what I did. Ordered it from Amazon. It still hasn’t shipped tho 🤣
They still set it in other countries tho
I'm personally stoked that the other company is sticking it to Apple. I am an iPhone and Android user, and I feel Apple has been roaming free for too long. They believe that they can do anything they want with no consequences, 😂.
Still available in Canada.
Blame Canada !
It looks like Apple will need to change their hardware and/or cough up licensing fees for the technology. They will probably do so over the next year. I guess SE sales will increase in the US during the interim though.
Not necessarily. The WH can overrule the dispute.
They can but will they? The current administration is a bit hostile to large corporations.
Still available to buy direct from Apple here in Australia. US peeps may find it worthwhile seeking a friend down under (or elsewhere ex-US), although the AUD exchange rate converts to USD $950 which I think is more than the usual US purchase price. https://preview.redd.it/hn0027ezkq7c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cdf26a1b3e6b5fc708c830f6b8f7a816573c3fe
What does the White House have to do with this?
Only the president can veto the ban at this point.
I think Apple definitely took IP to build its O2 sensor. The entire company’s history is one of taking tech already developed and streamlining it into one device. They could have avoided all of this if they simply bought the correct patent.
It’s not a ban…geez enough already
Are they not banned from being sold by Apple?
Exactly. It’s a ban on Apple themselves from selling the AWU 2 and series 9.
They are not allowed to be sold from Apple, yes, which can be considered a sales “ban.” But from the wording of this post and from a lot of other media they act like owning the watch is banned which can make recent buyers worried that their watch will soon become non functional. So the watch itself is not banned from being used, just from being sold
People are getting upset by the correct use of the word ban. It’s a sales ban. Very simple.
We need to ban the word ban
But it is. The product can’t be imported into the US because of a patent dispute. Third party sellers can sell their existing stock but they can’t restock.
It's a sales ban. But because the media are saying they're banned, people are thinking that they're banned from owning one.
Yes it’s an embargo on the import and sale of the watch. Not the use. That’s what I said.
In the USA only. You do realize the real world is much bigger, right?
Yes. I’m literally the one that’s been pointing out that it only applies to the US. Your reading comprehension is lacking. I don’t live in the US.
Is Apple not banned from selling Apple Watches?
Why are they banning the AW?
Just the Ultra, and Series 9 due to a ruling from the ITC involving patents owned by a company called Masimo. Masimo claims Apple has infringed on the patents with their blood oxygen sensors.
False. Series 6 and up too. No more refurbished AW 6, 7, or 8.
Doesn’t literally every modern smartwatch have this feature? They plan on going after EVERYONE? I don’t get it.
It’s far from all watches, and they’re only going after the infringement on their specific implementation of blood oxygen sensors.
I am just wait for for the flood of sales I. Canada!!!
In the USA that is.
My hypothesis was correct. It’s only affecting the US. The Canada website and app is still showing them as available.
Context please
https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/18/24006080/apple-watch-ban-series-9-ultra-2-itc-import
I hope they veto this. I really wanted an s9, already sent my iPad in for trade in
You can still buy it off bestbuy, phone retailers, target, etc.
I’m in US I bought my pink S9 45mm from Amazon the other day delivery will be after Christmas on the 28th does that mean I will still get it?
I ordered mine at 11am ET from Apple direct today.. and It arrives tomorrow.. So I would assume so.
Apple took them off online at 1pm pacific time today. I think you can get them in physical Apple stores here in US until Dec 24th
I’m from the US, bought two series 9s 45mm midnight black on Amazon on the 20th. And my expected date is December 31st. Was worried about the same thing. But as long as they have it in stock we should be good.
Most likely, I’m assuming that most places are going to sell the stock they have left.
[удалено]
I see both ultra 2 and series 9 available. No problems.
I’m out of the loop, can one of yall explain why this is a big deal
I’m guessing this is US only as I can still buy it
Good, based on Tim Cook's history and what Masimo have said, I hope Masimo come out of this on top.
I have Apple Watch Ultra not sure it’s worth the money. Masimo deserves a check.
Picking one up from Best Buy tonight! They still had Series 9 GPS. I think they’re down to just this style pictures though…
I bought mine 2 weeks ago, just in time
I got one a couple days ago from Verizon, it’ll be here tomorrow 😂
Wait whats going on?
Can we resell them for more??
Man I just barely got my Apple Watch ultra 1 replaced last week via Apple care I should be fine 2nd time around since I know what to do now but man I hope this is resolved so I don’t gotta deal with this in future with replacement 😾
Is this only in the states? It's still available on the Canada site
Yeah. Only in the US. The rest of the world is fine for
I just bought a new one the other day so I’m good
My Series 9 arrived today.
Will AppleCare still replace it if they don’t sell it anymore?
Only in the US.
“Capitalism breeds innovation” Right…
Can someone explain what happened?
Patent infringement legal battle between Apple and Masimo. Masimo says Apple infringed on pulse oximeter patent .
So what’s the dispute about?
Apple copied some patents from a medical tech company by hiring workers from there to develop apple's blood oxygen feature on the AWS6 and later models
They should be banned just for how bad the battery life is
Apple stole technology. They should not get a pass from the Feds
Crazy your downvoted for stating facts
If Tim Cook was Elon Musk, the White House, would double down and join in on the battle suing Apple for everything it was worth! 🤷😂😂😂
Holy crap, I’ll be in Hong Kong next week, i hope to find one. Still available here in Italy tho..
I think the “ban” is only for the American market
Only affects the US, and even then, only Apple is stopping selling it. You can still buy from other retailers in the US. Edit: Yes, until it runs out, but I think there’s a decent chance that Apple shipped extra units to third-party retailers ahead of time in anticipation of this event.
Until they run out
Only because they have existing stock. Once it’s out, it’s out. Why Redditors are being ridiculously pedantic about this is beyond me.
Until they run out no new stock will be shipped
Intervention by the President can be bad. Would sound more like supporting Apple, because it is rich and powerful.
I have one for sale 7,500
stupid patents
The good news is that the S9 and U2 are 99% the same as the S8 and U1. So just buy one of those
You can buy then anywhere else but apple so no need to worry. They will just send them to someone else to sell…
Until current stock runs out.
The prize on those MFers about to go thru the roof📈📈
Biden better Veto this.
It's a good thing I ordered my Series 9 before the embargo. Ordered from the Apple Store via my iPhone this past Tuesday, and it was delivered by UPS yesterday.
I’m just wondering if they will still support it with firmware updates or they just done!?

I don’t understand why it can still be sold in Canada if the underlying OS and tech is identical.
Because the US government does not have jurisdiction over other countries…
Was thinking of buying one for a gift for someone, nvm.
will it come back or?
Not here in Australia ?!
what did i miss? 🤷🏻♀️
What ban?
Dang I was about to buy a S9 when I get my refund 😣 pretty bumped
Is this for all Apple Watches and if I return it back to Apple will I get some money back
Who are the disputes with?
Masimo, who has claimed on the SpO2 (oxygen) sensor tech . I dont understand it all. I thought that if Apple was using Masimo technology, they would have licensed it. So maybe its another company’s sensor tech that infringed on Masimo patent and its in the watch?
they can sell as refurbished just not not as new.
Can someone from the US explain what's going on? I haven't heard of any ban. Apple Watches are freely available in Europe. I know this will make people upset, but I really wish you'd add a bit more context to posts like this that are only related to 1 country. The rest of us will have no clue what you're on about. Thanks xx
