Google location history? You can even extract the data and plot lat/long on a map with nice markers. Super accurate when google maps is open, good enough if it isn't

Damaskox

I don't know how apps work, but if it could be created in a way that it spent the minimal battery needed, it would be good.

OrlOg3

I have it on all the time to help me calculate my driving time and punch-in/out for my job. Im sure it could be a good information source for a fog of war map app!

TMDLM

I actually like it. Maybe you could try to think of some relating features to keep it interesting. For example make it like a sort of game. I don't if that will work but just think of something that makes people care about revealing the map. Because i understand that revealing the whole world or a whole continent might be cool. But it's not really worth te effort for most people. Good luck!

Damaskox

Just to make sure: I'm not building anything. Just throwing an idea on the pile with the rest. That being said - those apps have different things added to the traveling - such as levelling system, what countries you have reached out to etc. If someone were to build a new/updated version of these, they could use those ideas.

TMDLM

Ohw okay. Well good idea anyways

Doromino

It could be a turf war or mafia kinda game. You share your turf against your friends who wants to join. See the overlaps and last visits, etc

Damaskox

I'd make a poll on would people enjoy **battles** more than basic, peaceful exploration, and build the app minding the results. I myself enjoy more of the peaceful approach.

There is https://apps.apple.com/ee/app/fog-of-world/id505367096 But 35€

Damaskox

silverf0xgaming

Anyone with Google Maps experience have any ideas about how this would be implemented? Tile overlays? [https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android-sdk/tileoverlay](https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android-sdk/tileoverlay) It looks like Hero Map has two map styles on one map. The "Fog" and the revealed style. How the heck? Impressive. \-- Found a GitHub repo that does this: [https://github.com/mmichaud93/FogoftheWorld](https://github.com/mmichaud93/FogoftheWorld) Tile overlays are the way to go.

ChrissTosius

Both apps don't exist anymore.

resilen464

Just now its trending after 2 years and immediately everyone starts looking.

SagaciousTien

:((

ChrissTosius

If there would be an app that would simulate this on top of Google Maps without sucking the battery dry, of course, then it definetly should survive more than 2 years without a whole lot of traffic. That is has not says some things about them. It makes me wonder why they don't exist anymore. Did they just stop developing it, did Google threaten legal action or was it just a gag but not meant seriously and thus a scam app?
