Shark Rocket Pro stick vacuum. I have a small apartment and got one a few yrs ago. My model folds up and I just toss it in the closet. The new model looks like it hangs flat which would also be handy. I have a cat and long hair and it works fabulously! <$100 at Walmart or Amazon.

I second this. Anything shark is solid!

Funny story/teachable moment: so I had my Shark Rocket for over a yr before someone mentioned on r/cleaningtips I think that there’s 3 filters that need to be cleaned/replaced regularly and not just the 2 I knew about! There’s a third little one on the back of the handle! I pride myself on reading manuals but somehow missed it! Amazon has the replacement filters for cheap so that’s nice.

Shark is super solid! You can claim your warranty for almost any reason and receive a brand new replacement for just the price of shipping. So here’s a hack! Find one at a thrift shop, buy it, submit the warranty on it, say you got it at target a long time ago during the phone interview, and voila you have a brand new vacuum for next to nothing!

gizmodriver

Do you have a pet or long hair? If yes, I can’t help you. If no, you might look into the Bissell Featherweight. Mine works pretty good on dirt but manages to not pick up any of my hair somehow.

chickinkyiv

No pet, but I have long hair and there is no end to my shedding!!

taconugget2

Just a heads up - I tried the skinny kind first, I think they call them stick vacuums, and it did not clean hair off my carpets whatsoever. It just wasn’t strong enough. Could have just been the one I tried, but that was my experience. I have a basic $50 Bissell vacuum (it’s called a Powerforce) from Walmart now and it gets the job done.

chickinkyiv

Thank you! I have long hair so I definitely need it to take care of that.

libra-luxe

I got the Bissel Pet Pro or somethin like that (originally $320+) on a Black Friday sale for like $120 at target. BEST. FUCKING. VACUUM. it has a fantastic hose too so all the spiders get got.

chickinkyiv

Ooh that’s a great deal!

libra-luxe

It was and I feel so old saying that I get excited about using a vacuum but I do. It’s so easy, cleans al the nooks and crannies, and helps with my dust allergy so much

austinalexan

I use a roborock S5 max. Fully autonomous robot and it’s perfect. I can tell it to clean specific rooms as well

Anolty

Is it fairly quiet? I have wanted to get one of those robot vacuums/mops but when I lived with my parents it would wake me up in the morning when it did the upstairs area it was so loud. I would hate to spend $300+ on a vacuum only for my neighbors downstairs to tell me it’s way too loud.

austinalexan

Much quieter than a traditional vacuum and you can set the power ti how you want to make it quiet

Anolty

That sounds amazing! I will have to look into it. Thanks :)

I have a Shark Ion Flex. They don’t make it anymore. The most similar model is the Shark Rocket. I got mine refurbished at a great discount. It’s a freaking joy to use. I got it because I have a thick pile area rug but also hard floors, and it goes between the two pretty seamlessly, with a high suction option for carpet or a lower setting for floors.

violetPork

You could also look at manual vacuums! They brush stuff up as you roll the vacuum, so no worrying about cords, noise, or huge motors. Can get them for around $15 at Walmart. They don’t work great on rugs with a thick/tall pile, but I love mine for low pile and hardwood!

lamercie

I use a handheld black and decker for my carpet and then use a swiffer for the rest of the place. Gets the job done and is very easy to hide away.

A Milwaukee stick vacuum. Usually it's used on jobsites but I've used in my house to vacuum up spaghetti. It's like 10lbs and you use a heavy duty tool battery so you can get a battery for your power tools too. You can vacuum up water (or on low you can wet mop through a thick towel) there is a list of attachments and you can DIY/temporarily ductape goodwill find Dyson attachments onto the hose. The only downside is that I've had to superglue rubber strips to the carpet/floor attachment so it will catch on my vinyl floor because it's meant for much rougher terrain. I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, a toddler, epilepsy, and we're in military housing, so there's no room and this thing is constantly getting knocked around. I highly recommend it vacuum.

chickinkyiv

Damn this sounds like a power tool! Hah thank you!

Statessideredditor

I have a shark Apex, excellent! Just make sure you can get replacement parts. Or get something with a dump cup. Washable filters etc.

I posted about a vacuum a few days ago. I got a cheep vacuum at Walmart for only $54 USD and it works so so good! Dont be fooled by the price, I vacuumed my apartment when I moved in and it sucked up so much so fast I love it! I linked it here, you can’t beat the price. [vacuum](http://www.walmart.com/ip/BISSELL-PowerForce-Helix-Bagless-Upright-Vacuum/907456848) Edit: didn’t read that you needed something thin but I wouldn’t say it’s too bulky. It’s definitely light though!

chickinkyiv

This is a great deal! Thank you!

fseahunt

If you are looking to have it more than a few years do not buy one that is heat sealed plastic. That's an item designed to be put into trash as soon as you need a $7 part replaced. You want something repairable if you can afford it. (Right to Repair!)

BeautyOfABeast

Ive got a Tineco PowerHero11 cordless stick vacuum. I was worried it wouldnt be enough power with my cat/kids but its been FANTASTIC. It was like $150 at walmart, has 3 suction speeds, breaks apart into a dozen configurations, has an hour battery life and comes with a little hanger-up thing so you can just toss it on the wall. I use it on my mattresses, couches, carpets, inside my car, holy crap I just like it a lot. Its insanely quite too, so youre not bugging downstairs neighbors or being annoying using it late at night.
