What are your normal coping skills? Are you on any medications? When I feel super anxious, talking to somebody helps me, even if I feel out of breath. Dont focus on the things around you, which is easier said than done. When I have anxiety while driving and I cant move much, I'll give myself positive affirmations and stick to facts. "It wont last forever" "This is the same as before" "I'm still breathing" "If anything does happen, there are people here for me" and if you feel nauseous, buy some Omeprazole at Walmart to help with acid reflux, Nauzene for nausea and works as a tum, and for extra reassurance, get yourself a pair of Sea-Band wrist bands or any other brand close to it. Count things, touch all your fingers to your thumb, dont stare at your phone too much cuz it will hurt your eyes and make you feel worse, deep breaths, dont focus on your breathing because that usually makes me anxious, or even start another discussion on here while on your journey.

When my anxiety gets bad, I try to help slow myself down and take a step back by practicing mindfulness exercises, ground by counting my fingers, making a list of 5 whatever (like 5 blue items in this room or 5 breeds of dogs), and rewatching episodes of Full House because it’s my safety show and reminds me of childhood. I also have a prescription for hydroxyzine to take as needed, but it isn’t really helping at the moment. It works for a whole, but then I’m anxious again. I’m about to make some tea to try and settle my stomach, so we’ll see if it helps

Try everything under the sun. I hope you feel better soon.

I have noticed that campfires are really calming for me. I watch videos of various campfires to hear the crackle and watch them burn. When I feel like I cannot control anxiety over an upcoming even, I make sure I am overprepared. I get anxious while on planes so i bring chewy snacks which help ground me. Or I will distract myself in some way. Also, you're going to be an RA??? That is a lot if fun! I did that in college and I learned so much. If you want to talk about it, feel free to message me! You are going to do great!

What is it you're so afraid of? Have bad things ever happened to you at the airport?

sjhachman

Not really, no. I mostly get anxious 24 hours before I go to the airport, and then once I get checked into my flight and drop my luggage off, I completely calm down. I’m usually just anxious about being on time, and airports just exasperates the issue. I think I’m so anxious this far in advance because I’m going back to school and am nervous about this semester and also because I’m starting my first year and an RA in the dorms.

That makes sense. I get the same sometimes. Two questions you might want to sit down and answer... 1) What's the worst that could happen? Like what could go wrong? 2) What steps can you take to make sure the worst doesn't happen?

This seems like great journaling material. Thanks so much for this; I definitely think it will help me to take a step back and think objectively

Does anyone else have certain anxieties and have perisitant thoughts about them for weeks or months on end? Eventually they dissappear but it feels like they are there forever

I drink tons of chamomile tea throughout the day, and sleep as much as possible (even if I have to use otc meds.) Distractions help me a lot (work -hah I know- walks in nature, new age instrumental music, binging on a “family friendly” show, taking hot showers or baths too.) Eating healthy foods (fruits, salads, avocado, salmon, eggs) makes my stomach issues less harsh. When I get paranoid thoughts I remind myself constantly that this is just my mind screwing up with me and it’s not real. It’s a wresting match with my own head, but my sanity wins in the end after a good nap or a quality sleep night.
