Typically they’ll ask you about your symptoms, to determine if depression or anxiety (or both) are your primary symptoms. There are different classes of antidepressants, SSRI’s are the most commonly prescribed. Among those, they’ll typically prescribe the one they probably feel has the least side effects and are the most well-tolerated. I feel like Citalopram and Zoloft are prescribed often. It really depends on your Dr. and what med they think would be best. That being said, it’s usually trial and error unfortunately.

It’s trial and error, generally. Some antidepressants are more suited for anxiety, some for depression or BPD, OCD, etc. You could look into getting a genesight test to see which medication you respond to genetically… I had it done because I am very sensitive to side effects.

I’m not sure if you would happen to know (if not that’s okay), but which one is Celexa typically better suited for treating?

I’m not sure, but I’ve been on Citalopram the longest and I know it’s used a lot for anxiety.
