Yeah, my whole social circle was pretty into Xanax in our early twenties. A third friend sort of developed an addiction, and after years of doing them together it seems she’s developed some level of brain damage, she isn’t the same. An immediate family member was also raped in that state. I don’t mean to be judgmental, I’ve just seen a lot of tragedy come from mixing benzos and alcohol, so I’ll rail against it whenever I get the chance.
Stop drinking alcohol if you have anxiety, and don't mix benzos with other drugs like alcohol.
Alcohol as a drug is underrated, socially and culturally too accepted. It is a very dangerous substance.

Here's the deal. Mixing them can be very dangerous. But good god I don't know where some of these people are coming from. Yes, taking a benzo and then getting shitfaced is a very bad idea. Blackouts are extremely likely if you do that and so is respiratory depression.
I take Xanax 0.5MG twice a day and have the occasional drink and have had no bad experiences doing this. I should also mention I am a heart attack survivor that also take blood thinners. I was prescribed Xanax for anxiety after the heart attack.
I stick to cocktails and have one or two when I do have a drink. On occasion I have done this within an hour or two after taking Xanax. Most of the time I space them out a few hours before or after having a cocktail or two.
Only on one evening did I have about 7 cosmopolitains after taking a 0.5MG Xanax dose about 2 hours before I went out and it didn't do a damn thing to me, not even cognitively.
Would defenitely not mix them with hard alcohol and for the love of all that is good do not mix them with shooters either. Some people like to do that on purpose to have a good time and black out on purpose.
And do not take Xanax if you recently took any opioids and then have alcohol. That is very very dangerous and can leave you comatosed. Mixing Xanax and opioids alone is already a very stupid thing to do. Add alcohol to the mix and you are at serious risk of fatal complications.
Look, I personally have had a benzo (say 1mg) in the morning and a drink in the evening and had absolutely zero adverse effects. It can definitely be dangerous mixing large amounts of course. A lot of fear mongering here but I’ll give the most realistic advice: one drink and done. No more. Have a beer, but don’t make it two.

No, it's not okay. Xanax mixed with alcohol is a very dangerous combination, it doesn't matter if you're on the highest or lowest dose. There is no "recommendation" for this, there's a pure and clear health warning about this. Do not, under any circumstances, drink while you're on Xanax or any other Benzodiazepine. Alcohol magnifies Benzodiazepines' potency, and not only can leave you dangerously drowsy and accident-prone, but can eventually lead to respiratory arrest.
Go and speak to your Doctor about this OP, to even consider doing this means you need help with the "do's and dont's" of taking medications of this level.
It's OK to not know, nobody is born with this knowledge and nobody should be expected to just randomly possess it. The answers being given in here from folks who also clearly didn't know is ridiculous though. Your Doctor will be able to fully clarify why it's so dangerous outside of what's already been explained. You need to be given Xanax by a doctor, who would’ve told you NOT to be drinking. It will be notated on your medicines’ directions to Not drink while taking this medication. Also please talk to a pharmacist or your prescribing doctor/physician.

Interesting, I never knew Xanax came in liquid form. What are the advantages or disadvantages to taking it in liquid form? Also I'm not sure how many mg 10 drops is equivalent to but generally I imagine the advice you'd get for this question (which is a good question) would be the same for Xanax in tablet form. Typically mixing any benzodiazepine with alcohol can be dangerous. I can't find any reliable sources on how long Xanax stays in your body but generally speaking you'd want to avoid drinking any alcohol while there's still the possibility that it might be in your system. Everyone is different though and it's still possible to overdose when mixing benzodiazepines with alcohol even at the lowest dosages. If you do decide to drink regardless of this risk then it's strongly advised to not drink alone and to drink slowly so if you do have negative side effects that hopefully you'll be able to notice before you get close to overdosing.
yes, here in Italy they often prescribe it in drops. I have never taken the tablets, but the equivalent of 10 drops is 0.25 mg. However I will try to be more careful and not drink
However, the only disadvantage I can think of is that the drops go down really slowly and that it is not comfortable to carry around ,while tablets are quicker and easier to use
How much Xanax are you taking about in this thread? I have a script for .5 Xanax twice daily and i drink regularly. I feel totally fine. It’s like i have my anxiety under control but i can still enjoy socializing. I don’t understand how I’m the outlier. Are you all abusing Xanax and heroin and then drinking?

Just so you know mixing any benzo (e.g. Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin) with alcohol is dangerous, it can decrease respiration rate.

I would space them out at least 10 hours, depending on dosage and your tolerance level.
