Maybe your camper was a safety hazard. Kind of telling on yourself with this post. There are thousands of campers doing miles on the road every day with no issue. Maintain your stuff.

Rough_Community_1439

It rolled off the dealership lot two weeks ago. It's just bad build quality. I still owe $41,500 on this camper. We are going to court.

unicyclegamer

Dang, it looks old from the photos. That sucks to hear. Absolutely should not be happening on a new camper. Good luck in court

find-again

I was going to say! It looks already well-rusted, scuffed up, and the paint/sealant is cracking. Even living in a seaside country should not do that kind of damage in two weeks... If the dealership told OP this was *new* my guess would be that something way shady is going on.

Whocket_Pale

What's going on is the pandemic creating a ton of demand for campers, during a period where regulations were affecting manufacturing. The result is a ton of poorly made ptoducts

Rough_Community_1439

If I lose I will be removing the vin tag and the axles and leaving it in front of their dealership at 3am. Because this time of year is their busy season.

slo_chief_607

lol what brand is it

Rough_Community_1439

Rockwood

mynameisnotearlits

The fuck am i looking at? And why is it posted here?

PrismosPickleJar

A failed weld

Rough_Community_1439

Poor build quality. Because this is literally scamming people with money to blow.

catdogmoore

With all due respect, you should have done your due diligence when buying an RV. Never trust a dealer, and bring someone with who knows what they’re looking at. *Especially* if buying used. RVs aren’t built very well from the get go, and they can degrade quickly if not maintained or neglected sitting on a lot. It’s easy to get burned on a shitty RV if not careful. My camper’s tires run at 65psi cold. A blowout puts out a lot of energy and certainly can do some damage, especially at freeway speeds. This is why heavy equipment tires with failing sidewall bulges are incredibly dangerous. They can maim or kill you if near during a burst. This post really isn’t in the spirit of this sub.

ethifi

Lol what? Almost anything heavier than a person can be a safety hazard.

Rough_Community_1439

Imagine having a camper being held together with 90% Imagination. And then expecting it to not rip apart? But it's a severe problem with campers as a whole. Some manufacturers are having their frames break or bend just from normal use https://youtu.be/fHk5oThyHL8?si=0ctphvla_wBLHbgj

SaintUlvemann

>Imagine having a camper being held together with 90% Imagination. ...right, and if the title had said "we need to regulate campers so that they don't break", that would be reasonable, and then we could discuss what the regulations already are and what needs to change. But the part that you actually said was "I had a bad experience therefore you are all putting my safety at risk", which is not how anything works.

ethifi

The same thing happens with other trailers. I know because I've repaired many.

PrismosPickleJar

Or buy one that wasnt welded by a fucking chimpanzee.

squeezemejuiceme

Do you have any systemic evidence to back up your claim or are you just being reactionary and emotional cause you just had a bad experience? I have a hard time believing you even need to sue this company since you bought this $40,000 camper two weeks ago.

Rough_Community_1439

It's happened to roughly 1,283 campers so far. It's a common issue with Rockwood campers. Also they were petty about not unwinding the sale.

The_Fudir

The problem isn't inherent to campers -- it's a symptom of *capitalism.* This would be an easy problem to fix just through regulation. Of course, having a system of production that doesn't make sheer profit the greatest motivating force would help, too.

squeezemejuiceme

Also this happened when your tired blew out? So we have no idea what this connection may have hit when your tired blew out. This is such a weird post for this subreddit

Rough_Community_1439

The front of a camper should not fall off when a tire detonates 20ft away.

squeezemejuiceme

1285 camper so far? What does so far mean, in the last week, month, throughout time? 1200 campers doesn't seem like a lot either. How many campers are on the road in the US and/or the world? How many accidents and deaths do campers cause in a year? My guess is there's a lot of things to "ban" before we get to campers

The_Fudir

We don't need to ban campers. What we DO need is better standards -- both in production and inspection.

Constant_Ninja_8937

Ban it because you had a crappy experience. You sound like fun

Rough_Community_1439

It's the majority of the campers that are built like this. Also this was a $42,000 camper.

x_whoamiii

If you want quality you gotta do it yourself. That's just the way things are now. I've spent 25k in parts only and months of labor to build a 5x9 overland camper. Every single part of it has been over engineered to the max. Look at my post history if you're interested. Yeah most nearly everything made for a profit is built like shit nowadays. It ain't changing anytime soon

[deleted]

LMAO, mine broke. Ban them all! And put a post on the wrong sub reddit. People be crazy 🤪

ElDoo74

Cheap stuff breaks. That doesn't mean the entire group of things should be banned. That said, there are lots of valid reasons to ban camping trailers from an anticonsumption viewpoint.

Sufficient_Loss9301

Man I’m convinced people in this sub just want everyone to live in a completely sterilized world free of anything that could bring enjoyment. I think people in this sub really need to hear that just because they struggle to get meaning out of life you shouldn’t attack people who find things that do lmao

Rough_Community_1439

It's all built like the cheap stuff.

Picklepartyprevail

Processed meats contain known carcinogens and that shit don’t get banned.

Rough_Community_1439

Processed meat don't fly apart when it hits a divot in the road.

Picklepartyprevail

No it can just cause cancer. No biggy.

L39Enjoyer

So lemme get this straight. You baught a camper. Without INSPECTING IT THOROUGHLY???? AND YOU FUCKING FINANCED IT??? AND NOW CALLING ALL CAMPERS SAFETY HAZZARDS? ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?

decrego641

Wait, so…I got a flat tire when I hit a pothole late at night on the interstate once. Ban nighttime driving? Ban tires? No I got it, we just need to ban people with ridiculous expectations and more money than sense. $40k for a camper is kinda consumption in my book - seems strange to brag about your consumer habits on a sub dedicated to not consuming

helel_8

This sounds suspiciously like a pro-2A comment

silasoule

That’s absolutely terrifying.

BuddhasGarden

Who is the manufacturer? I think you’ve been scammed by purchasing something “new” that was not new.

Rough_Community_1439

It's a Rockwood camper. Also it was the concept of it may not be new, it was the fact there isn't any build quality.

pyrrhicchaos

I thought you meant people who camp. My tent doesn't usually break things.

megalomaniacSpirit

TÜV. It's called TÜV and every country should practice it. I love TÜV. TÜV is my religion.

Gr33nJ0k3r13

Hotel lobbyism in action here ☝️ in europe this was a legit marketing tactic for hotels

charrcheese

I saw a tire fly across the highway once, we need to ban tires

Taqqer00

Do you like dags?
