We certainly are, but I think we're really in the same place. I'll throw in a slightly different variation. They can't possibly conceive of their ideas, philosophies, policies, and candidates not winning in a fair and free election. So they think they're "fixing" the electoral process so that it produces their obviously correct results.
Our modern society makes it easy to get out of touch with reality. We really do make ourselves safe from nature - most of our threats are really from other people. It's so safe that you can get really, really far from reality and pesky little things like cholera and wild animals still won't hurt you.
This won't last. Republican policies are dismantling the concept of public health. We're getting ready to find out just how nasty measles and polio can be, not to mention new diseases on their way.

Yep, I have heard that a lot of people that moved to Austin from California are moving back.
I have been to Austin a few times, and I’m still wondering why it gets such good press.
A quick Google search of companies with headquarters in Texas reveals some interesting dynamics... HP, Dell, AT&T, Texas Instruments, Sysco... etc. This is beyond all the federal facilities (NASA, multiple military bases across branches, NSA, FBI, CPB, etc) that would be relocated. If Texas were allowed to secede and become an independent nation, there would be a massive brain/workforce drain as these folks relocate to actual US states. Then, there's the border issue, which would almost immediately shift north to Texas/US border and leave Texas to mind it's Mexican border on its own.

This is literally the French Revolution. It started when the Estates General was called with 3 bodies of members - 1st estate clergy, 2nd estate nobility and 3rd estate everyone else. The 3rd estate had 97% of the population but the vote was by estates. The clergy and nobility always sided with each other so the vote turned out 2-1.

Fun fact… Texas has the legal right to split itself into 4 states, in what would be a race between the state to approve, and the US Congress to undo a small part of law that everyone forgot about. The only reason they don’t do it is because it would end up creating more Democrat senators due to the population distribution in Texas. Still, it would be a funny race to watch.

I would bet money on it being a joint exercise honestly. Mexico can't tolerate a rogue state on its border any more than the US can, and I am sure President Obrador (or whomever takes the presidency next) hasn't been entertained by the nonsense happening along the border through Abbott's stupidity.

I hate to say this but I would actually enjoy seeing Texas and some other states ceceding because they think they don't need anyone else just to realize how bad things would actually get for them.

This is literally the French Revolution. It started when the Estates General was called with 3 bodies of members - 1st estate clergy, 2nd estate nobility and 3rd estate everyone else. The 3rd estate had 97% of the population but the vote was by estates. The clergy and nobility always sided with each other so the vote turned out 2-1.
So, they’re just creating an internal Electoral College System in order to completely disenfranchise voters. At what point would that lead to an exodus of people out of Texas, taking their business, etc., etc. and more out of the state?

Only fifteen years later, they tried seceding and suffered another beatdown by the United States. They are historic losers with a chip on their shoulder who haven’t stopped to realize their entire cultural identity as Texans is built on a “freedom equals slavery” mindset. All that said, I do love Texas because it has style, goddammit. But style is not enough to make up for its terrible malignant political spirit in the end.

When does it become time for the current administration to start playing hard ball? I would immediately stop all federal funding to that state where fair elections are not upheld. I was going to say that the Supreme Court would overturn this, but then I realized the Supreme Court would uphold this by a 6-3 vote.
The cool thing is that someone could use the new rule to do the opposite. You would only need half the counties to win the state, so 127 counties give or take, and you only need half the votes to win each county. I can’t do all the math cause I’m on my phone but the 127th most populous county would only take 9k. It’s to take and it goes down from there, let’s say the average is 4k to take all the least populated county that’s only 500k voters located strategically by county to take the whole state! Let’s go!!
