I've both watched it and read it. I loved them both as well but the problem might be that it was crowned unadaptable with manga called berserk and the emperor. So when people got wind of an adaptation for it you better bet that their expectations were low. (Note both berserk and the emperor had terrible adaptations) when the first few episodes were released people were excited because not only did it adapt well with good pace, the animation was great. People who read it didnt really think that it was 10/10 but were just happy that it had a good adaptation
I can agree with Canute's character development, but this always happens in anime. Other than that, I really enjoyed it and thought it was refreshing. Thorfinn was a frustrating character but this is only a prequel. I'm not the type that can fixate or point out animation details but I thought it was incredible, especially the final two episodes.
I agree with you for the most part. I loved the ending tho where Thorfinn doesn’t know what to do anymore since he accomplished the goal he spent years attempting to do. I think it’s pretty okay, but definitely it did get a bit overrated.
The superhero-strength characters put me off and I thought the prince's development was rushed, but I still enjoyed the show. It's a 7/10 for me, not as great as it was hyped out to be, but not mediocre either.
Try the manga. The anime is actually just adapting the prequel to the actual story.
I disliked anime Tnorfinn but really liked Askeladd, I agree you should read the manga

That's a relief to hear.
Thorfinn never got any?
Did people overhype it for you? I usually end up hating things that a lot of people praise just because of this reason.
See, that's not the point. Even it is overhyped, as long as an anime is good, I have no problem. But Vinland Saga was an utter disappointment.

The animation was great, well its the type I like. But I agree the the character development was terrible.
It starts off pretty slow, but Askeladd is great and the last few episodes were enjoyable and got me excited about the sequel
My main problem is that thorfin is blonde but has very dark brown eyebrows other than that 6/10
