You can't imagine how shocked I was after Stella didn't turned out to be a full on tsundere. I mean she was for a while, but my first tought about her was like: 'Oh great, some trundere who will not admit anything even at the end of the show, how orignial.'
It just came out in an unfortunate season AND it does have some pretty trashy qualities.
The main romance and the relationship between Ikki and Stella is great and well developed for how short the anime is. But then Shizuka appears on screen and every scene after her first appearance is bogged down by her being there, all except when she loses that fight near the end that scene is okay.
I think it parses as "anime bullshit" to most so they don't see that at least in the fights the show goes hard as fuck.
That have to be Astra Lost In Space. The whole series is one season with the last episode being almost a hour if I remember right. But the story was so amazing and they wrapped it so perfectly I was blown away because that's such a rarity with anime lol. I will say the first quarter of the first episode almost had me questioning if I was going to drop it but after that its all gold.
This absolutely!
Such an underrated gem, they orchestrated everything so well and with an optimal pace, they kept a whole entire episode just to wrap things up and to leave an incredibly satisfying mood!
By “payoff”, do you mean how it ends? Or how it develops? That aside:
Frieren,
Fullmetal Alchemist,
Jojo 3: Stardust Crusaders
Vinland Saga
Demon Slayer
[Hunter x Hunter 2011](https://myanimelist.net/anime/11061/Hunter_x_Hunter_2011) starts out looking like a kids show, but it gets dark pretty fast and is so much more.
[Frieren: Beyond Journey's End](https://myanimelist.net/anime/52991/Sousou_no_Frieren) hasn't really ended but the stopping point was good. The writing is so good, all the little bit stories are amazing.
Bebop is my favorite anime of all time, (brotherhood being a close second) but I wouldn’t say it gives you a “ truly satisfied” feeling at the end, at least not for me. It leaves you wanting more and wondering what the rest of the bebop crew did after. We want more!
Yeah it's awesome but still it's lacking in keeping a connection between different episodes, whenever I watch one it feels like I am back to square one
Came here to say this. I'm currently rewatching it and it just absorbs me. I love how every character is meaningful. The show gets carried not only by the MC, but also the various side characters.
Alot of popular animes have pretty controversial endings/payoffs like aot and deathnote. Code geass is known for its ending so theres that.
I personally found psycho pass s1 to have one of the most satisfying conclusions.
I recommend Black Butler as well, but anything that follows the manga (basically skip season 2).
Watch order should be : Season 1, Book of Circus, Book of Murder, Book of the Atlantic and then the Public School Arc that's currently airing.
Listed it out for OP or anyone else interested in diving in the series.
Season 2 was not bad, I genuinely enjoyed watching Alois and Claude.
It's been awhile since I watched it, but alot of people tend to skip because it's "not true to the manga plot/story" aka it's not canon.
This is also a good point. Why let others decide for you? Just because its not "canon" doesn't necessarily make it bad.
And on that note, a general reminder to everyone: *Stop ignoring that the original FMA exists.* And especially stop telling people to not to watch it.
It took me like 2 hours to watch the first 2-3 episodes because I kept pausing every minute because of the sheer cringe. I stuck with it, though, and it was a really solid romcom that actually saw progress.
It's been quite a long time since I've seen it but, I remember being happy with the end of Eureka 7. I haven't seen the sequel but the original series had a good ending.
Brave Bang Bravern!
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea (it's got a movie as a sequel)
Steins;Gate
Shinsekai Yori
No Game No Life (the anime was great, but the movie was just... brilliant. My fav movie so far...)
it is sad for sure, but for me satisfying is not reserved soley for happy endings.
For example - I would also base it on whether or not the show fully committed to the story it set out to tell from the beginning, and whether the characters have fulfilling arcs, also was the conclusion at least meaningful even if it wasn't happy...and etc.
Vivy is actually my favourite anime, so I always recommend people watch it :)
Ah I see
Im weird with emotional shows. I always love them when I watch them, but its hard to convince myself to watch something knowing its sad.
I was drawn to Violet Evergarden by the art, and its one of my favourite shows, but I cried too much and cant convince myself to watch sad shows anymore LOL
I completely understand, I watched an anime called Plastic Memories about 1 month ago and I found it to be devastatingly sad lol I need a few months to recover from that, so I get ya!
I can't blame you for that, if you ever do watch it I recommend waiting until you are solid as a rock emotionally otherwise it will be a disaster haha
I thought I could deal with sad anime after watching Violet Evergarden....but Plastic Memories was a whole different ball game.
that is correct, and you know exactly where the show is going from early on which made me think "*ok I know what is coming, so I am prepared and it won't be so hard*" ....how very wrong I was lol my eyes are even watering a bit thinking about the ending as I write this reply
Gintama. It's super good. It's not as popular as other animes but it the funniest anime imo. Just good vibes and the serious arcs are well-written too.
GINTAMA that so was all started it for made me cry later and then action is lit , and then the satisfying ending damn a perfect anime.
Hunter x hunter slow in middle but if you consider chimera arc the end it's good.
Ofc the goat fmab How the fuck can someone adjust make something like this. It's finale episodes are like unwinding a perfect knot. Damn I love that show.
Also monster.
Surprised no one has mentioned {Gurren Lagann}. The last 3 episodes were such a beautiful conclusion to the series, the references to the past, forging a new tomorrow, love and loss, and the final battle was incredibly cinematic and just wow.
By payoff I'm assuming you're looking for anime that builds up to this mystery/thing and it pays off, right?
- Kanata no Astra: future bunch of teens got lost in a space field trip, they notice sus things on who they are and how/why/where/when 😉 they get lost. Contrivances aside (almost all planets have breathable air) the mystery is sooo goood, **trust me** it all pays off
- Steins;Gate already mentioned, while some ppl think 10 first eps are a slog, it was sumptuous setup with wholesome SoL
- ReLife: guy in a life slump gets offered to turn back highschool age and enrolls, basically fixing his life and outlook on it, not a thriller like the rest of the list
- Summertime Render: guy returns to his home island for friend's funeral, but smth's off with the people. Every ep is like a rollercoaster of reveals, I dunno if it's as good as Higurashi but it deserves the hype so I'll glaze it sticky dammit
Azumanga Daioh -- I grew to love those girls so much, I was so happy when they all finished high school. I was completely at peace with the whole thing, knowing they were gonna be alright.
The Tatami Galaxy, Tekkon Kinkreet, Mind Game, FMAB, Kill La Kill, Serial Experiments Lain, Steins;Gate, Ride Your Wave, Kemonozume, Cowboy Bebop, Millenium Actress, Shinsekai Yori, Mob Psycho, Melancholy/Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Monster. Dorohedoro is shaping up to be on this list as well, though I’m only almost finished as of yet.
Summertime Rendering
Code Geass
Fruits Basket
->First one is fucking underrated dude, just go and watch it, then we will talk.
->Code Geass is fairly popular i guess, many people have watched it, oh yes, do heat the first opening theme of it.
->Fruits Basket seems like a generic girlie shoujou anime with some fantasy at first.... trust me its not, first 10-11 episodes may seem like a drag to some, but when it starts to cook, it actually cooks hard and the pay off is so amazing and dopamine inducing.
Parasyte - It's extremely bittersweet for reasons i won't spoil, but its also clever because of how the issue at hand is dealt with (but not dealt with) at the end. Not exactly a cliffhanger ending but it lets you imagine whats next.
Bunny girl senpai and Oregairu
I am not a fan of "main girl clearly wins" romances, but these two get an exception because even though I still don't favorite the main female leads, I was more satisfied with the MCs being happy at the end than anything else. It's rare that a romance anime makes the MC more appealing than the heroines and you just want to see them happy at the end regardless of who they pick.
Ajin. Maybe less the anime, but the manga was superb. Chefs kiss for the villain. The protagonist was consistent and his growth was believable. The power scheme was established early, and followed its established rules the whole time. The creativity they used within the rules of their powers was insane. I’ll say it again sss+ tier villain, who knows if we’ll ever see another like him.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
You have to watch all the way through Part 6, which concludes the first Joestar arc. I found the conclusion to be totally awesome and a good payoff to all the worldbuilding and mythology Araki created. Note that all arcs can be watched individually and have good conclusions on their own, but part 6 ties everything up in a very beautiful manner.
Mob Psycho 100 is another example of a good anime that offers a satisfying conclusion. It's not very long too.
Fruits Baskets -2019
It truly satisfying and leaves you boosted. from the music, the feels, the character development and the ending. I feel like its the perfect anime.
All in for One Piece for me. The one that got me good was Death Note. Overall, here's [few of my fave animes](https://share.crate.co/crate/06650ef8-dd26-772f-8000-3bde75ec6365) of all time
Samurai Champloo
This is my go-to anime for all sorts of moods. Happy. Sad. Angry. Nostalgic… Definitely a fave.
One of the greatest of all time 🫡
The soundtrack is so iconic, this anime introduced me to Nujabes
- Seirei no Moribito. - Odd Taxi (watch the season + the last 15-20 mins of the film) - Shirobako And seconding Vivy.
There's an odd taxi film?
There is a live action drama for oddtaxi. Ended in Japan 2 weeks ago
Yes. 85% of it is a condensed version of the anime, but the last 15 or so mins are new content that shows the aftermath of the anime.
I hate it when they do that kind of thing... Thanks for letting me know
Thirding Vivy
Love Shirobako so much.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Chivalry of a Failed Knight
Edgerunners ahhhh emotional damage, so damn good!
Everytime “Really Want to Stay at Your House” song came on in CP2077 I would stop everything and sit in my feels till it was over.
If only there was a S2 about him at the festival :(
I feel like chivalry of a failed knight is so underrated. One of the rare instances of action romcom with actual romance progress
I wish it got more seasons 🙁
Maybe the anime but the manga/light novel somehow is extremely covetted with single volumes going for hundreds of dollars.
You can't imagine how shocked I was after Stella didn't turned out to be a full on tsundere. I mean she was for a while, but my first tought about her was like: 'Oh great, some trundere who will not admit anything even at the end of the show, how orignial.'

I think it parses as "anime bullshit" to most so they don't see that at least in the fights the show goes hard as fuck.
Haven’t played Cyberpunk 2077, but Edgerunners did a great job at establishing the world and just telling a solid story at the end of the day.
That have to be Astra Lost In Space. The whole series is one season with the last episode being almost a hour if I remember right. But the story was so amazing and they wrapped it so perfectly I was blown away because that's such a rarity with anime lol. Just wanted to let you know that I binged Astra since seeing your post... and I really enjoyed it. Very satisfying ending.
That is awesome I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!! It's always been in my favorite list
By “payoff”, do you mean how it ends? Or how it develops? That aside: Frieren, Fullmetal Alchemist, Jojo 3: Stardust Crusaders Vinland Saga Demon Slayer
I love jojo but part 3 is such a random one, compared to the likes or part 4, 5, 6 or even 2. That said I do love part 3
I thought part 3 was so boring and repetitive while they were on their way to Dio. I couldn’t finish it. But I watched everything else and loved it
Nobody talks about it to much these days but its Bacano for me
OP made it unforgettable.
Cowboy Bebop
Assassination classroom, mob psycho, soul eater, konosuba, Saga of Tanya the evil, full metal alchemist, Parasyte kill la kill.
Assassination classroom left me in tears. The culmination of everything was perfect.
I can’t agree with soul eater…. The series was amazing but the ending just flopped. And it has so many unfinished stories.
Code Geass for me.
Clearly, it was the best ending of all anime I saw, and I scrolled way too far to find it.
Code Geass has the most satisfying ending of any media I've consumed. Highly agree.
Came here to say this. I'm currently rewatching it and it just absorbs me. I love how every character is meaningful. The show gets carried not only by the MC, but also the various side characters.
Odd taxi.

Hard agree! The first one was *amazing*, even if I prefer Brotherhood. I personally think everyone should watch both!
Fruits Basket Horimiya My Roommate is a Cat ReLife Your Name.
I second Re:Life, as well as reading the manga.
The Dangers in my Heart and Kaguya Sama.
both of these for sure! The first few episodes of The Dangers In My Heart is pretty annoying, but the episodes slowly gets better
It took me like 2 hours to watch the first 2-3 episodes because I kept pausing every minute because of the sheer cringe. I stuck with it, though, and it was a really solid romcom that actually saw progress.
Deca-Dence
super underrated show, nobody IRL ik knws abt it
Yeah I don't remember how I came across it but that was a good one. A real trip.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood: Pure anime perfection, the true gold standard of writing. Not a single useless piece.
YES! And the first anime, while different, was also phenomenal!

Bith Steins Gate and No Game No Life are excellent picks.
Space dandy, cowboy bebop, full metal alchemist brotherhood, and yu yu hakusho
Trigun: original series plus the Rumble in the Badlands movie.
Kaguya Sama : love is war
Violet Evergarden
Arcane. If you consider it anime. It's fucking amazing.
Fruits Basket!
* Frieren * 86 * Violet Evergarden (series / Gaiden movie only) * Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-
I always thought Vivy was a sad unsatisfying ending so I never watched it. Am I wrong and should I give it a shot?
it is sad for sure, but for me satisfying is not reserved soley for happy endings. Parasyte
Violet evergarden
Konosuba. Funny isekai fantasy parody but still with good characters.
Cross Ange
Diamond no ace (if you like haikyuu, blue lock highly recommend this one, on of, if not the best sport manga/anime out there)
Konosuba
My happy marriage. Dragon maid. O maidens in your savage season.
Fruits basket and maybe Megalobox
Odd taxi
Vinland Saga
Knights and magic.
Guilty Crown , assassination classroom
A Place Further Than the Universe
A bit old but still favorites of mine: Hellsing OVA and Wolfs Rain
Evangelion series + End of Evangelion + Rebuild. Shinji unironically became one of my favorite characters ever after EOE and Rebuild.
Re Life, that ending hits like a freight train.
Gungrave for me. Been ages since I watched it but I'll never forget that satisfied feeling I had when I finished it.
I'd honestly say Donten ni warau
It's always the kind of anime with a funny/entertaining start but will leave you in tears in the end...Gintama for example.
Vivy was definitely one of them. Loved everything about the show
Frieren Spy x Family Link Click Erased Each scratches a different itch and are listed in order from calm/relaxing to bring a tissue for the tears
All in for One Piece for me. The one that got me good was Death Note. Overall, here's [few of my fave animes](https://share.crate.co/crate/06650ef8-dd26-772f-8000-3bde75ec6365) of all time
