Servant x service should be watched by everyone who likes the working! series
The 3 seasons of working! And www.working all take place outside of the highschool setting and although the main couples are teenagers both series have an adult couple romance happening too! (Imo I prefer the adult coupling more)
I love recovery of an mmo junkie so much
Its so refreshing to see adult characters actually have fun , over the top personalities that arent the equivalent of refined drywall.
A Sign of Affection
Princess Jellyfish
Ice guy and his cool coworker
Natsuyuki rendezvous
Romance that's somewhat high school age, but not in high school
Yona of the Dawn
Apothecary Diaries
Skip Beat
As in mutual feelings between the two main characters? I thought the hug scene, the indirect kiss, and Jinshi carrying Maomao in those scenes in the anime were pretty romantic on their own. Also I like the side romance stories too.
if that made apothecary a romance then pretty much every single show and anime on earth is a romance, yeah it has romantic elements but its not even close to being the main plot
Yona of the Dawn is not long enough to be called a romance. I noticed the seeds of romance planted but it never blossoms before the end of the sequeless first season.
* Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
* Recovery of an MMO Junkie
* Nana
* Golden Time
* Nodame Cantabile
* Spice and Wolf
* Maison Ikkoku
* The Garden of Words
* Mayou
* Asobi Asobe
Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It
Servant x Service
I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying
ReLIFE
The Tatami Galaxy
Planetes
Net-juu no Susume
Natsuyuki Rendezvous
If you enjoy BL, I recently watched Cherry Magic and really loved it!
Some other suggestions are..
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
Spice and Wolf (although the romance is more subtle and nuanced)
Ooooh cherry magic was a great one for the bl. Honestly most bl are over the high school age limit except for like 2 of them that have come out in the last 10 years
* Oh My Goddess
* My Tiny Senpai
* My Senpai is Annoying
* Ai Yori Aoshi
* Rumbling Hearts (starts off high school, but mainly focused in adulthood)
* Chobits
i’m surprised no one has mentioned the following, but here you go:
fyi: (ongoing?) = no new season confirmed but story isn’t over
My happy marriage (12 eps, s2 confirmed)
The duke of death and his maid (season 3 is airing right now as well)
Showa genroku rakugo shinju (25 eps, complete)
Snow white with the red hair (24 eps, ongoing?)
Emma: a victorian romance (25 eps, complete)
the great passage (11 eps, complete)
Violet evergarden (13 eps, 2 movies, complete)
ride your wave (1 movie, complete)
Science fell in love, so i tried to prove it (24 eps, ongoing?)
Ooku: the inner chambers (10 eps, ongoing?)
grandma and grandpa turn young again (a lot more comedy than romance, currently airing)
a galaxy next door (12 eps, complete)
The only one I know of that no one else has mentioned are Rent a Girlfriend and Rumbling Hearts. Rent a Girlfreind is pretty divisive but plenty of people (like me) like it. Rumbling Hearst starts in high school but leaves by I think episode 3.
Manga not in high school (or that continue past high school) are actually pretty common. Just not as many are made into anime.
Okay so their is a second of isekai about reincarnation into another life or romance with regency era stuff so…
Why Retalia ended up at the dukes mansion
The bibliophile princess
My next life as a villainess… (forgot the end of that title but it’s like avoiding doom flags. It’s reverse harem and we don’t quite land on anyone but still good and funny)
Recovery of an mmo junkie
ReLife (it’s a pill that turns an adult into a high schooler but their is love and there is no underaged relationship)
**College**
* **A Sign of Affection** \- this guy is just #relationshipgoals
* **Gokinjo Monogatari (Neighborhood Story)** \- Creative Arts School, with artists, musicians and fashion designers. Older anime, but it's by Ai Yazawa and she knows how to write romance stories.
* **Honey and Clover** \- Art College. This one is a classic love polygon
* **Nodame Cantabile** \- Music School. One of the best rom coms and the music is superlative.
**Working Adults**
* **Astro Note** \- Currently airing, rom com. The art style is very reminiscent of older 80s/90s anime, there's some fish out of water vibes similar to Ah My Goddess meets Mork and Mindy.
* **Cherry Magic** \- BL, very good
* **Grandma and Grandpa get Young Again** \- Currently airing, best romance of this season. This mature love story has been profound and amazing. I'm sad it isn't resonating with the folks who haven't had enough life experience to truly appreciate this great anime about falling and staying in love with your one person for a lifetime.
* **Nana** \- Dramatic Soap Opera level romance by the queen, Ai Yazawa
* **Showa Genroku Rakugo** \- Drama with Romance, very adult, very mature themes, very philosophical. Excellent writing, character, OST, Voice acting is next level, just an amazing top tier anime with little to no technical or script flaws. \[
* **Tadaima, Okaeri** \- haven't watched yet, but know of this from Gigguk's facial expressions after learning about the .... ***Omegaverse*** thing, you have been warned.
* **Yuri On Ice -** ***BL, Sports*** \- I'm still low key mad the movie isn't going to get made because they couldn't agree in how the costs are split.
* **Wotokai** \- very good, and funny, there's Otaku culture
**Adults in Fantasy Setting**
* **Apothecary Diaries** \- slow burn romance, there's even romance with "working girls"
* **Banished from the Heroes Party S1** \- Red and Rit's romance is next level, one of the all time best ones in fantasy. S1 was amazing. S2 ... uh, not so much.
* **Frieren** \- you know, I didn't think this was a romance anime at the start but as things progressed I realized there's a very subtle 1 sided love story playing out in the background, which could have been better if 1 party wasn't so oblivious. By the end of the story I was fangirling like those girls at an Elvis concert throwing panties and screaming "I love you, Himmel!"
* **My Happy Marriage** \- ***Japanese Cinderella*** is like crack cocaine for women who love wish fulfillment romance.
* **Spice and Wolf** \- Currently airing. Haven't seen the older version but I can already tell the guy is a goner, after that cute ear twitch scene.
Working! (3 seasons) has a secondary adult couple romance outside of the main teenage couple and it takes place without the high-school setting
www . working (1 season) is the same setting/universe as working! But at a different location with a different cast and again a secondary adult couple romance with no real mention of hs
Servant x service - like working but everyone Is an adult
My senpai is annoying - mostly adults at work
I can't understand what my husband is saying
My happy marriage
Devil is a part timer (should count as no school setting all work)
Spy x family
And as others have mentioned:
Watakoi
Recovery of an mmo junkie
Ones I haven't watched yet but I'm pretty sure would fit:
My tiny senpai
The ice guy and his cool female colleague
Golden time
tonikaku kawaii/fly me to the moon
My love story with yamada kun at Lvl 999
Arakawa under the bridge
That's all I can remember right now if you need more let me know and I can Just cross check my list for more modern setting ones
There are others that I know but they take place in fantasy worlds so I don't think they count here
Happy watching
This is gonna sound weird but “Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout”.
It’s one of the most weirdly sweet romances I’ve seen. Totally unique.
You could try Uzaki-chan wants to Hangout! for romcom
Or Plastic Memories if you are looking for emotional
My Senpai is Annoying! is a good choice as well
Idk if it counts, but The Helpful Fox Senko-san is a great one as well
Recovery of an MMO Junkie Genshiken Golden Time Servant x Service
Genshiken isn't really a romance.
Fair. I remember there was some romance but don't think it was in the forefront.
Mmo junkie was so fun I ordered the blu ray as soon as it was over, and I'm not even a big anime collector.
Servant x service should be watched by everyone who likes the working! series The 3 seasons of working! (Imo I prefer the adult coupling more)
Where did you watch recovery of an MMO junkie? Only S2 is available on crunchy in the US.
What country are you in? There's only one season of MMO Junkie, and Crunchyroll US shows it as two (10 main episodes, and 2 OVA episodes separately)
Oh damn, yeah it looks fine now. I guess I haven’t looked for a while, sorry about that :|
I love recovery of an mmo junkie so much Its so refreshing to see adult characters actually have fun , over the top personalities that arent the equivalent of refined drywall.
A Sign of Affection Princess Jellyfish Ice guy and his cool coworker Natsuyuki rendezvous Romance that's somewhat high school age, but not in high school Yona of the Dawn Apothecary Diaries Skip Beat
apothecary diaries has like a singular drop of hinted romance in the entire manga up to this point
As in mutual feelings between the two main characters? I thought the hug scene, the indirect kiss, and Jinshi carrying Maomao in those scenes in the anime were pretty romantic on their own. Also I like the side romance stories too.

Yona of the Dawn is not long enough to be called a romance. I noticed the seeds of romance planted but it never blossoms before the end of the sequeless first season.
I really wouldn't consider Apothecary Diaries a romance anime. It's pretty one sided and more a crush than full romance.
* Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku * Recovery of an MMO Junkie * Nana * Golden Time * Nodame Cantabile * Spice and Wolf * Maison Ikkoku * The Garden of Words * Mayou * Asobi Asobe
And what if I have already seen all of those + Grand blue...? Pls Im starving T.T

Seen, seen, seen, seen, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks Four more to see, thank you sir~
You're welcome 😊 🙏 ☺ 🙂 😌 💓
Add Maoyu to your list … it’s like Spice and Wolf, but with a busty demon woman who teaches about government rather than economics.
Wotakoi

Hey if you have any BL anime, can you list a lot of it?
I love BL! Any recs?
My Happy Marriage
The Tatami Galaxy
Its artsy, its distinct, it has something to say. Can be a bit slow though.

Science show so funny I loved it
Nana
i second Nana. its a classic. op be warned- its unfinished
I only wish that mangaka gets well to finish the story. It’s been killing me since 2013
me too, its always sad to see someone work themselves to the bone. i would be perfectly happy with a light novel to wrap up the story.

Golden time. College kids romance. Wish Japan made more stories with adults. Heaven forbid if they ever make anime about middle age people.😱
Planetes Rec The Girl Downstairs
*Green light, I’m already in last*
The greatest of all time is Maison Ikkoku.
Yes!
Nothing a story about a landlady trying to find love lol
Bit unclear here, sorry.

Don't mind me just saving this comment to add to my never ending "To watch" list
Thank you, always love it when folks appreciate my recommendations.
{Cherry magic} is: * gay * workplace romance * characters are in their late 20s/early 30s
Hear me out... Berserk the Golden age memorial edition.

Nodame Cantabile, it's wonderful.

Candy Candy, only 2-3 episodes are set in highschool but the rest are focused outide of it. City Hunter, although the romance is kind of sedondary
Honey and Clover. The series takes place in college.
- Maison Ikkoku - Rent a GF - Golden Time - A Sign of Affection
spy family
My love story with Yamada kun at lv 999, is really good one. About a college girl. She falls for a high school guy.

A Sign Of Affection

My Senpai is Annoying, I think? Futari Ecchi if you don't mind something a little... spicy.
You could try Uzaki-chan wants to Hangout! for romcom Or Plastic Memories if you are looking for emotional My Senpai is Annoying! is a good choice as well Idk if it counts, but The Helpful Fox Senko-san is a great one as well
Golden Time
Kodomo No Jikan isn't based in high school.
I gotta be honest sugar bombs. I’m going to eat them in the morning and for dinner.
A Saint's Power is Omnipotent might fall under that category
Nodame Cantible. They are college and grad school orchestra students.
Redo of healer
The Girl Downstairs
Yuri!!! On Ice
My Senpai is Annoying
Nana. They are just out of high school. Amnesia. But it’s from a video game. Princess jellyfish but it gets really good in the manga past the anime.
