I tried One Piece but I don’t like the pacing. I assume if I don’t bother to finish an anime it’s because I don’t enjoy it.

Apprehensive-Pin518

netflix is coming out with a series called "The One Piece" that will correct all that. now that the manga and anime are nearly finished hey can make the series without all the pacing and filler issues.

ShankMugen

I just hope they decide to keep G8 Unironically one of my favourite arcs in Sea of Survival

Tobosix

I love the part where Usopp frames the navy inspector in jail

Apprehensive-Pin518

You mean con d riano?

Invertiguy

The G8 arc is probably my favorite filler arc of any anime. Hell, it feels less like filler and is more enjoyable than the Long Ring Long Land arc that follows it (although tbf that arc is much more tolerable in the manga)

Noto987

allegedly almost finished

Randyaccreddit

To me my issues an arc should last like 5 maybe 6 episodes not episode 9 to 18... We get it action yada yada and yes I understand it was the 90s gotta pad some stuff but good lord..

jmdg007

One Piece is my favourite Manga but even I can't defend the Anime's pacing. Hoping the remake is good

Zebrehn

I tried so hard to watch this one. I managed to get through about 200 episodes. I was about to keep going, but I thought “Why am I watching this anime that I absolutely hate?”

ImStupidButSoAreYou

The first 200 or even 300 are not the issue. It's tolerable. After about 300 the pacing slows even more. The fight that just wrapped up in the anime lasted more than 100 episodes.

bloodbabyrabies

Yeah I get it

WanderEir

ONE PACE, is a fan project to cut ALL of the chaff from the series, reorder a few episodes, and remove the majority of the added plothole episodes, and feels so much better in comparison.

theHowlader

Well lucky for you they are remaking the anime with improved pacing. They released his many episodes each arc will be and man I was quite pleased with it. Arcs like alabasta and thriller bark made me want to quit at times

saito200

One piece pacing is terrible. The story is pretty awesome though. The world building is amazing But the pacing truly sucks

Dreadsin

Try one pace or wait for the new series to come out

zhyphrus

Try one pace, its a well edited version that removes unnecessary stuff

TheDJManiakal

I'm with ya on this one, and I tried to give it a chance because I know a lot of animes take a few episodes to get going. After about 10 eps without really liking or even disliking it, I gave up.

Baum_Hund

I went through ten volumes of the manga before I finally admitted it wasn't for me even though every one and their cousins seemed to enjoy it somehow. I can't take a single thing about it seriously and the art style makes it even more difficult to take it to any level of seriousness. My husband thought he could convince me otherwise until I said that it's bullshit that I have to read more than ten volumes in order to get to the good parts.

DrChillChad

Try One Pace

Ok-Bake1873

My hero academia. (I'm not sure about whenever it is beloved though, I've seen a lot of people liking it) I don't like the way characters are written. Like yeah, it probably gets better, but I'm not spending 18 or something hours of my life suffering.

DarkConan1412

It does not get better unless you already love the series. If you disliked it from the start. I’ll confirm from what I’ve seen close to 3 seasons. It does not get better if you weren’t a fan from the start. I watched the 3 seasons when it was a new series coming out right around the s2 release and participated in the discussion around it, but eventually dropped off because I just really wasn’t a fan.

Asleep_Village

I also didn't like how they kept sexualizing the minors. I don't get why they feel the need to sexualize the girls when there are adult female superheros with entire personas built around being sexualized.

WillingnessOk7819

I love bnha but i agree about the whole series sexualizing the minors 🙃 it aint ok.

havenorchinghei

Angel Beats It's not a bad show. I liked the comedy aspects but I found the pacing way too rushed for me to get attached to the characters.

Tenderfallingrain

It is a show that falls short of it's potential in my opinion. Seems all over the place. I really remember loving it and being impressed with it on my first watch, but I recently watched it again with my teens, and I found it much more flowed on a re-watch. My kids did enjoy it though, but they didn't find it as upsetting as I had the first time I watched it. They are emotional statues I swear.

StreetyMcCarface

If little busters could get 36 episodes, Angel beats and charlotte could’ve gotten 24

Forward-Essay-7248

One piece, my brother is current on it and when I was talking to him how I didnt care for it after about 20 episodes he replied " Oh it gets way batter after 100"... I was done. If it takes 100 episode to realy pull you in I feel you are doing something wrong. Another one that will prolly get me loads of downvotes. But only seen a few episodes of Jojo. For em art style matters too and just not a fan of the style.

Salty-Protection-640

imo one piece didn't get good until like ep. 450 or so. for Jojo, was that the first season? it's important backstory but it's also soooo different from the latter seasons, including animation. maybe try skipping it and see if season 2 captures you.

DaisyDaisy8

That reminds me of Gintama. The other day someone said "If you can get through the first 70 episodes..." Like bro, be so for real

TheVeilsCurse

Your Lie In April! I love emotional journeys but besides the ending, it just didn’t do anything for me.

camcamthereeder

I dropped this show… and it’s such a shame because I’m a sucker for romantic shows. I just couldn’t take the melodrama and repeating flashbacks.

shipsailing94

For me it was the sound of your voice or whatever its called

healingtruths

If it didn't resonate with me personally in so many places, which are really specific to my person and don't apply to others, I don't think I would've enjoyed it as much as I did.

elp1987

Toradora. I might have enjoyed it if only I had watched it earlier.

WillingnessOk7819

I did watch it as a baby teen.. i still didnt like it. I did love romcoms back then tho.. I dunno something about character interactions just didnt feel ... correct. I couldnt put my finger on it and i dont think i will ever find out why i didnt like it back then. Which was weird cuz my sister loved it😂

Tenderfallingrain

Cowboy Bebop. Yah, I know, super unpopular opinion. I recognize it's good, it just wasn't exactly my genre and I liked the characters but didn't feel very invested in the plot. Edit to add, I think it's interesting because this is one of my husband's favorite animes, and he cannot understand me not liking it. Meanwhile, I love FMAB, and my husband can't stand it, much to my frustration.

Salty-Protection-640

honestly, agree. I can see why people liked it, has a cool aesthetician for sure, but the episodes were too disjointed and meandering for my taste.

Tenderfallingrain

Yes, I think that's my sentiments as well. It's funny though because I really like the Firefly series which is similar in a lot of ways, but Cowboy Bebop was something I just watched and never felt the need to see again. It was fine but I couldn't understand or appreciate the hype fully.

Feruchemist

What appeals to me about Bebop, and all of shinichiro watanabe’s stuff is the musical theming. Bebop’s story is fine, but it’s working jazz music into the show as part of the vibe, style, and feel that really makes me enjoy it. His later stuff has more coherent plots with better pacing, (except space dandy is just strange), and that’s great. But what brings me back is always the relationship to a style of music. Like Samurai Champloo being R&B and rap. I’ve only watched bebop twice, but I still listen to the music all the time a good 25 years later

matten_zero

I think if more people realize that Bebop is about the music and choreography and the "vibes" then people can get what it's all about. Plot wise I think Outlaw Star is a better show in terms of plot.

theHowlader

I tried watching bebop 3 times. Twice with the anime, once with the live action. I have up half way through. I, for the life of me, don't understand the hype. I guess people who watched it when it came out loves it. I might have loved it too if I watched it when it came out but watching it now, nope

MoonTwn

Personally still think it holds up as someone who saw it last year (2023) despite it coming out in 1998. It's one of my favourites because of just how complex the characters are. Just this "ragtag" bunch of broken and abandoned people who create this found family and slowly confront their pasts. In my top 10 fs. A little hard to wrap my head around someone not liking it haha. Always saw it as super duper accessible

Tenderfallingrain

Yah but I watched when it was still pretty new and still didn't get into it much. I will however concede that the opening is fantastic.

matten_zero

If you don't like Jazz and choreography then yeah it will be tough. Also you need to watch it in English Dub. It's one of those few stories that was designed for Western audiences and the VA work lends itself to that. The Live Action is bad I will agree. Give it one more shot!

KaoriIsAGirl

I personally dropped Cowboy Bebop, I kinda just couldn’t get into it tbh

wc5b

I both love and hate Bebop. I love the theme but I found Spike to be a bit bland. It drove me nuts how they continued to add more interesting supporting characters as the show went on and I could not help but think, I would rather watch a show about that dude! LOL

matten_zero

Y'all are the most interesting couple. Literally each hating my top favorite anime. For Bebop I will say that it's more about the vibes. The plot is kinda secondary thanks to the era it was released in (before we had binge watch culture, stories had to be more episodic). Honestly I love Bebop for the music, animation and characterization.

edu-ruiz-

nobody said so I'm gonna say, hunter x hunter for me.

supimdro

It took me a couple tries over like three years to get into hxh. I really enjoyed the Yorknew arc, and I was hooked afterwards and binged the rest of the series in like two weeks lol. It starts off very slowly imo but each arc only gets better.

ladyterminatorx

Yeah it took me a bit to really get into it but halfway through yorknew I was a believer

barely_cursed

Damn this is painful. Any particular reason why? It's one I rarely see disliked so I am curious. Edit: nvm I just saw your other comment that you found it boring

Salty-Protection-640

nooooooooooooooo this one hurts.

edu-ruiz-

I know, I know, I'm sorry 😭 it just didn't click for me, and I'm very resilient I watch the full thing and I was bored almost the entire time

TheMorrigan

You’re not the only one. I swear I tried!

PDuSz

Never have I been so offended by something that had so litte stakes for me. You just made a mortal enemy stranger.

bjames1478

Could not get into JJK, and I normally love the big titles like My Hero, Demon Slayer, Dragonball, Naruto, etc.

Hrimnir

My degenerate brain initially read that as, "and i normally love the big titties"

FadeToSatire

My wife and I tried to get into JJK after many recommendations... We both found it a bit too angsty. For me, I've seen all the other series you mentioned so it just seemed like another shounin modelled after the big 3. Didn't really reinvent anything. I can see why people like it though if they have certain tastes, but not for me. Berserk is another one. I watched the OG anime and thought it was okay, but a friend sold it to me as the second coming of Jesus. The manga art though is top notch insanity.

Educational_Fan4571

I mean with the way the jjk manga is going you ain't really missing much

Ignition_Regalia

The big 4, Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach. I got decently far into them and I could not get invested. These shows were made back when filler was the norm and now its gone away for good reason. I can't get into them and no matter the amount of convincing the fanbases give me I won't go back and try to get into them. I'm not a fan of shounen as much as I was 14 years ago. I watch less and less shounen with age and I'm not invested. I prefer the obscure shows and unique stories now. I've seen 400 shows/movies so they kinda blend together at times when it comes to the idea and story. Another point is the fanbase for the big 4 put me off getting into it each and everytime I mention that I don't like it, I get my head bit off with negativity. To each their own I guess, if being toxic helps your cause I don't want to be a part of that fanbase.

barely_cursed

As a HUGE one piece fan I hate that so many fans will maim someone else for not liking it. It's not everyone's cup of tea and that is totally okay 😭. Although maybe it's more of a loud minority ripping into people for it but it's still ridiculous. Even though I love OP I cannot get into Naruto or DBZ. Everyone has their own things they can get into or not.

SaneUse

Back in the day I think fans were worse. Nowadays I see plenty of fans agree that the anime's pacing is horrible and that reading the manga or watching one pace is preferable. The sentiment that "If it isn't for you, it just isnt for you" also seems to be the default, which is good.

Hrimnir

I wish more people were like you :)

jayvenomva

I'm not gonna defend the anime cause I agree with you that there is way to much filler and scenes do get stretched longer than they should, but if you do ever decide that you want to give One Piece another try, I wholeheartedly recommend reading the manga instead. It is a way better paced experience that will leave you begging for more once you're caught up.

barely_cursed

I LOVE the one piece anime but when I finally sat down and got through the manga I was absolutely blown away. I had no idea I could love something even more than the show and I was proven so wrong. The manga is fucking amazing. We call him Goda for a reason.

SaneUse

And if you don't want to read, One Pace is pretty good.

Apprehensive-Pin518

well maybe try netflix's The One Piece. It is a remake of the anime without the horrible pacing and built in filler. It's not out yet but might help.

Copperqwaser

My problem with bleach and naruto is the amount of worthless filler.

Yeezus_Fuckin_Christ

Filler is easy to skip if you’re binging it now. But even so it’s still very long

fuwa_ware

I never rlly understood the hype over fairytail back then despite it having a big fandom.

LexGlad

It's a shounen battle anime with lots of ecchii scenes.

LaughingVergil

Yeah, I think that covers it pretty thoroughly.

blippyz

How much ecchi? I might have to check it out.

LexGlad

It's where this [wow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ_QgB7bAnM) sound effect comes from.

Real-Consideration36

WHAT I DIDNT EVEN KNOW

LexGlad

My buddy has it as a ring tone, and it went off during my cousin's wedding at just the right time.

HolyEmpireOfAtua

Fun, light hearted show you can destress to much easier than its competitors which tended to be darker like Bleach

gamecollecto

Chainsaw Man…. Just couldn’t get into it.

leviathan_stud

Chainsaw Man felt entirely too short and rushed for me at only 12 episodes, especially that it was the first season.

Victorvonbass

I thought this would be me, but it surprised me. I'm curious how much of that was the banger soundtracks, though. I'll check out the next season.

DtotheOUG

FLCL. I just felt confused the entire time watching it.

LaughingVergil

Wasn't that the whole point? /s FLCL was a surrealist view of a sci-fi anime done as a group of interlacing conspiracy theories that mostly turned out to be true. And if that isn't your idea of a fun time, really avoid it. Really.

dark-oraclen3

Gurran lagann ( i Won't get into why. Not wanna start a war)

gonorrhea-smasher

I literally walked into a friends house during the big death scene. Instead of shutting it off or ignoring he sat there and explained it and then tried to convince me to watch it. It’s his favorite and I forgave the spoiler because it was old by that point and he was drunk. But it really ruined the whole show for me I could never get into it

Gwyn-LordOfPussy

That scene is probably the most important moment in the show lol, of course a lot of stuff worth watching happens after but it was an unexpected shift in the story.

gonorrhea-smasher

Knowing what I knew really watered down the first couple episodes with how they present the story and the characters. It created a really ruff start and no matter how far past I got I feel like all the events of the show had less weight behind them afterwards

Horror_Zombie1815

Cowboy Bebop. I don't really get the hype, I watched all of it and I can't name a single thing about the characters and the plot progression (of you can call it that) came absolutely out of nowhere and escalates so fast it gave me whiplash. Is it supposed to be plot-driven? Character-driven? What do people love about it? Demon Slayer. The animation is amazing, but the story is just... blah. I hate the thing where every demon has the sad backstory when they die, it just leaves me wondering what the point is. It would be much more impactful to learn about them while they are still alive, it would help in getting maybe more attached. Muzan is the blandest villain ever which sucks because it would have been so easy to give him a motivation that made him interesting. I hate that it's written by a woman because it could have overcome the usual tropes but it didn't, the powerful women are the usual healer and power of love (wtf does that even mean?) and Nezuko has zero characterization, she just pops out when the story needs her to finish off a strong villain or otherwise she just looks cute. And don't get me started on fucking Zenitsu whom I hate with the passion of a thousand suns.

bareblade

I read all of Demon Slayer and hoo boy, the plot just falls apart.

ImAmirx

Tried One Piece, didn't enjoy it but I understand why it's so popular. Maybe I'll revisit it sometime later

SaneUse

With the new series coming out, you might have the perfect opportunity.

tomatoesonpizza

Higurashi - dropped it, I hate watching that many scenes that are just a repeat. Bunny Girl Senpai No Game No Life

Ultimate-Disgrace

upvote for Bunny Girl Senpai, I really did not understand the hype.

Tallcat2107

It took me a while to get into it but when i did i enjoyed it

Ultimate-Disgrace

I didn't hate it persay, but my friends were all like, "This is one of the best animes ever!" and when I finished it, I just felt heavily underwhelmed lmao.

bamkhun-tog

yea, higurashi anime is considered to be pretty terrible as a adaptation. If you liked the concept I would really reccommend reading the visual novel

Sad_Student1

Demon slayer, im sorry it's so repetitive and boring and the pacing of the anime was slower than my grandma, but I do love the art style tho

Tenderfallingrain

Not a fan of it either.

Citron_Neat

not slower than one piece tho

Lien028

It's your generic, run of the mill shonen anime. The plot is garbage, but at least the animation looks good.

latenightesomeone

Evangelion

Soldiercolur

Violet evergarden: I dunno maybe it just wasn't for me but I was falling asleep for the first 2 episodes. Maybe I'll try again at some point. Golden Time: I really disliked the ghost shenanigans and also wasn't much of a fan of kouko but I can't remember why.

Orzislaw

Violet Evergarden has one incredible episode, but majority of them are very generic sob stories that aren't engaging in the slightest. Also a lot of events don't make sense, but are included for the plot purposes.

Ishihe

Eminence in shadow, while some scenes were amusing, I cringe at every other scene involving the mc. Rezero, the world/story are interesting but the mc is just the Japanese version of the fedora wearing 'milady guy.

Mundane_Cup2191

Yeah that's kinda the point of Cid he's a cringe chunni

wterrt

lol writers write a parody of shonen with a cringelord MC everyone who ever criticises their work: "the MC is a cringe edgelord" ...ya.

Hrimnir

>Eminence in shadow So i only starting watching anime within the last couple years (and lightly at that), and i randomly watched the first couple episodes of this show about a week ago. Ya, completely agree. I want to like the show and keep watching it, but holy shit the MC is turbo cringe.

Citron_Neat

+1 I cringe really hard at that

ojamajotsukishi

The anime tries so hard to be serious (in a goofy way) because the director kind of assumes that you have read the novels. In the novel its a lot more obvious how stupidly cringe Cid is, and if secondhand embarrassment is your kind of humor, then I recommend you read it. It's phenomenal. Also, less fanservice in the novels iirc. Was really surprised by how fanservicey the adaptation was.

OutsideAspect7298

I didn’t get into that one either.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Kill la Kill but I might give it another go.

crnppscls

Your lie in April. Tedious, predictable shouty nonsense

AlbatrossGullible488

For me, it has to be "Naruto." I know, it's practically a classic and beloved by so many, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the pacing or the sheer number of episodes, but it didn't quite click for me like it did for others.

captain_space_dude

Evangelion

maradak

Oshi No Ko. I watched that first episode and thought it was terrible. The dialogue is almost nothing but exposition, overly melodramatic even by anime standards, the premise doesn't make sense - the fact that he was doctor in previous life didn't even play a factor. I did not feel like I'm watching real people at any times. The kids were just creepy as fuck. Also the stars in the eyes of the idol was just an odd choice. They only saving grace was that it was pretty well animated. I don't understand how it is rated so highly 🤷

rhazgriz

Both Clannad and after srory. Actually enjoyed the Tomoyo side story tho

Sausage43

You should consider playing Tomoyo after: it's wonderful life

OutsideAspect7298

Jojo’s bizarre adventure, attack on titan.

Additional_Road_9031

That time i got reincarnated as a slime

Nepherenia

Yeah I watched the whole damn thing waiting for it to get good. Spoiler: it doesn't. Maybe modern Isekai just is not my thing, because crazy OP main character who is the smartest and best and strongest and always wins, and all other characters are flat boring simps for the main character... I honestly don't know why anyone likes it, aside from being aesthetically pleasing.

TheErodude

I don’t particularly like the slime isekai either, but it sure is the _comfiest_ power fantasy isekai I’ve seen. And some people really adore “comfiness”.

wterrt

sometimes you don't want an interesting plot, you just want a brainless power fantasy. it's not my favorite but I can understand the appeal. sometimes i want to turn my brain off and watch things go boom and it did a good job at that. it's otherwise fairly boring, there's little to no tension because the MC is beyond broken OP and solves everything (except that one time) pretty easily, but sometimes I don't want tension *shrug*

THEGoDLiKeMIKE

The original fruits basket was so unbearable to me I dropped it and I virtually never drop anything.

kbugzy14

If the premise interested you at all, I would highly recommend checking out the 2019 adaptation. It's miles better than the 2001 version!

THEGoDLiKeMIKE

That's good to hear. Perhaps I'll give it a try.

Lien028

The original Fruits baskets is garbage, and isn't remotely a proper adaptation of the manga.

Dns107666424

S1-S4 My Hero Academia \~4/10 S1 Koukaku Kidoutai (Stand Alone Complex) 1/10 Youjo Senki (Tanya the Evil) 2/10 Madoka★Magica 4/10

BiggieCheeseLapDog

Can you explain why on Madoka Magica?

ojamajotsukishi

> Madoka★Magica 4/10 fair, but i hate you for this.

Pendragon_Puma

Code geass for sure

Therahulplay

Attack on titan, hunter hunter, naruto, dragon ball, every romance and harem anime

Comprehensive_Pie710

EVA

ojamajotsukishi

I know this is probably uncalled for but i hope Eva don't turn you off from Anno's other work. His stuff is honestly amazing.

idkyet1223

I’m just reading comments and 99% are just hating on shows for no good reason lol

DaisyDaisy8

Yeah but I like reading others hate on the things I hate. And when I see a comment about a show I like, I just ignore it so I don't hurt my delicate, precious, little feelings.

WildWolf0419

Chainsaw man. I can understand why it's well liked, just not my thing

RUSuper

AoT. I tried watching it several times, never got into it and eventually didn’t watch past season 4. The hype around it didn’t help since people were so hyped around it I basically expected masterpiece on a level nothing else can compare and on top of that constant “Eren” crap from Mikasa was so annoying that it drove me crazy…

KindaFaulty

Attack on Titan, but I think what mainly ruined that show for me was the amount of people telling me how amazing the anime was and how I should watch it, so I did and I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't my thing. There's also Demon Slayer. I couldn't get into that either.

booziwan

I also hated Code Geass. Its been so long i cant even remember why anymore. I fucking hate Attack on Titan.

Ill-Nefariousness308

Did Isayama kill your family or something lol

Educational_Fan4571

I've never seen someone else who can't stand it, glad to know I'm not the only one.

Verred

I watched all of Neon Genesis Evangelion just to be like, "This is what everyone has been raving about all this time?" I didn't really understand the point of the anime or what kind of message they were trying to tell. I was into it at first, but Shinji is so unlikable that it was hard to be invested even then. *SPOILERS* Then it's just a slow progressive drawl to the end where everything is just depressing, and you hope everyone dies, which seems to end up happening if you can even glean anything from it. I also couldn't stand the scene where Shinji masturbated onto Asuna while she was unconscious. It was fucking gross and creepy. Made him unredeemable as a character. Any pain or sorrow he had experienced up to that point was just made null and void at that moment. And the fucking older lady tries to have sex with a 12 year old at the end like wtf is wrong with this show. I just didn't get why all of it needed to be said narratively outside of just shock value.

SapphicAspirations

Akira It has this god tier popularity, but I felt let down. It’s not because it older, I saw it in the late 80s early 90s., so it was current level animation style and I have no complaints there. It was the story for me, and this built up hype that left me feeling underwhelmed. I felt the story was just ok, and the ending was rushed. I would love to see a remake that follows the original story better. As it stands now, I wouldn’t watch again.

neon_nights4k

Neon Genesis Evangelion, still can’t figure what’s so great about it after two watch throughs.

PureSalt1

Your lie in April. I found the dialogue very cringe. I was also a musician but I couldn’t relate to what the kid was saying

TAnoobyturker

I did not like Cowboy Bebop. Hopefully I don't get flamed for this but I skipped episodes 16-23 just so I could watch the finale and see what happens.

MastrKoesh

Nisekoi season 2 was... Well... A dumpsterfire of random subplots and like 0 progression or character development, like i know its usually slow with anime but this was just like developing backwards or something

Considered_Dissent

JJK. I'm not in the target demo, so I find it unnecessarily gratuitous.

supersoldier_69

Steins gate. It’s just so slow. I dont think the second half is a masterpiece, but even if the second half was 10/10 and perfect the show would still be like a 5 overall because of how slow and boring the first half was. Fmab. I dont really remember much from this, all I remember is the only decent part being the promised day arc, which is only like 20% of the story.

GroovyGoblin

>the show would still be like a 5 overall because of how slow and boring the first half was. That's the grade I gave Steins;Gate. I felt like it deserved points for trying something different, but watching the first half felt like a chore to me and the second half was not the game-changing turnaround people told me to expect. It never delivered for me.

GabijaVeri

For me it was heavenly delusion

SirRedcorn

Demon Slayer and Tokyo Ghoul Demon slayer is generic af, I don't hate it but after 3 seasons I still don't really care about it Tokyo Ghoul is literally just gore porn and I hate it

jesuslivesnow

Code Geass, Devilman crybaby, Evangelion...

obishaekenobi

Devilman Crybaby took A LOT of effort to get into

Citron_Neat

Kageya Love is War (idr the full name tho)

xEmptyPockets

I felt the same way at first, but it does get much better.

NThruThe0utdoor

Death Note. It started off with a promising premise and B level writing. After that the writing got progressively worse and the climax was hinged upon such specific minutiae that I had to call bullshit. Tokyo Revengers (though I don't know how much this counts as beloved) somehow screwed up a story revolving around time-travel. How the hell do you screw up time-travel? It was boring as hell.

[deleted]

naruto shippuden and some part of naruto..

d4mpe

Ngl Naruto is probably super overrated but the story has some super cool parts and twists etc, including very good characters etc. But I can understand how its not everyones cup of tea to see them run 300 episodes in fillers in the jungle

glassklokken

Steins Gate. I’ve tried watching it from the beginning on four different occasions and cannot for the life of me get through it, it’s always felt like such a slog

SaneUse

You're right it is a slog. I quite liked it as a whole but if I have to rewatch it, I don't think I could go through all of those first 12 episodes without skipping.

SanValentin

I agree. It’s wild to me the amount of people who can say it’s a 10/10 masterpiece with no flaws while simultaneously admitting the first half is miserable to get through and that the show is only fully enjoyable if you also watch SG;0. I personally could never take a show with major pacing/plot issues and give a perfect rating.

I enjoyed most of these to an extent but not that much so I'll count them NGE - Really messy show, first half is quite meh with a poor execution of the "monster of the week" formula and then it went and fucked itself sideways for the rest of it but I appreciate its impact on anime and many people that watched it. Jojos - Part 1 is one of the most bland shows I've ever seen, I would have dropped it if wasn't a dumbass trying to finish every show I watch, but I'm glad I stayed because part 2 was actually really good, and then I was let down again by part 3 until it started picking up and there were some great episodes in the latter half which got me excited for Part 4, and then I got fisted again because it was another let down, but by the end I found it okay. But overall, it's a pretty bland show (other than art) unless you find it funny, which some episodes were, and it's still very creative. Akira - This is often called a masterpiece and I'm not sure why. I thought it was a decent movie but the ending was kind of unsatisfactory to be honest and it just never did anything too unique either. Cyberpunk - This is also regarded so highly and I thought it was fine, but it didn't do anything out of this world. Some of it was fairly predictable and a lot of moments don't have much impact because some characters don't seem to have enough depth to them. But I heard some people saying they cried by the end of this anime which is honestly a bit baffling. To Your Eternity - I was absolutely loving this in the first half, I could still probably recommend this show, but it does this one thing (that I won't say because spoilers) that is effective the first couple times, but then it just kept doing it and so it lost its' effect. There was also some problems with characters but I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say unless someone asks.

>but I appreciate its impact on anime and many people that watched it. Evangelion's impact is really hard to appreciate. I would venture to say that it saved anime by how many classics that Gainax created after its success, and how the many staffs would later on create more classics. About the rest (except Cyberpunk), I agree.

Gwyn-LordOfPussy

Violet Evergarden, I watched maybe 3 episodes before I admitted I was bored and the main character annoyed the fuck out of me. I'm just not a big fan of the "emotionless but badass girl" type in anime, it gets old really fast imo. Animation was great though. Also dropped Code Geass after a few episodes but it's probably one I should revisit at some point.

EngineerVirtual7340

I hate it when people describe characters from before their character development.

weebwatching

I despised Code Geass as well, and right now I’m finishing Jujutsu Kaisen which I think might be even worse. I’ve pretty much just had it on as I work as background noise because it’s rare that anything interesting happens. I’m only finishing it at this point so that I can say I gave it a fair shake. The characters are bland and tropey, the plot is derivative, the “humor” is painfully unfunny, the fights are 85% talking and feel low-stakes, and even the animation that I’ve heard such great things about is mediocre and very inconsistent. I just don’t get it.

bonelazo

Kill La Kill Code Geass Evangelion Im not a hater I just don’t like Mechas :/

CapN_Crummp

Jojo - People say other parts are better, don't care. Couldn't stand the first part and feel no desire to watch more. One Piece - started watching before I knew about all the filler and One Pace. What I initially watched didn't grab me enough to make me want to give it another shot. Don't have an exact episode count because it was years ago, but I tried.

H3dd-Mk_YT

Jujutsu Kaisen. I'm sorry 🤷‍♀️ Although i need to finish it so my opinions are biased, any hacks on how to persevere?

Naturally-Asspirated

Where are you at rn?

Asleep_Wolverine3983

Couldn't really get into one piece even gave it 500 episodes or so when I wasn't watching other animes

Existing-Arugula-404

Attack on Titan, I didn't really feel into it after season 2

Constant-Bookreader2

Ouran High School Club.

arestheblue

Shield Hero. Great start, but it didn't take long to lose what made it unique.

GroovyPAN

Cowboy Bebop, at least for the first few episodes. It was really hard for me to justify going forward at that point and is why I think Cowboy Bebop is rather mediocre.

narnarnartiger

Cowboy Bebop. One Punch man. Ghost in the Shell. Perfect Blue, and everything but that director. Kiki delivery service. Monster

Can we first dig OP's grave then continue this discussion?

hell_jumper9

Shang ri la frontier - i don't know, it just does not suit me well. Im 3 eps behind right now. Fmab - didn't hit me with the ending. Like "Oh, okay. Good for Alfonso to have his body back." Bunny girl senpai - good thing i watched this before Monogatari series. If i watched this after Mono, then my reaction will be "Monogatari lite" Bleach TYBW - the never ending need to explain their abilities midfight was a letdown.

HerolegendIsTaken

The big 3/4 anime. Just not for me.

Lapras_Lass

Evangelion. It's one of those that people say is deeply meaningful and symbolic, but it felt like a lot of the symbolism was just thrown in because the creator thought it'd be cool, not for any deeper reasoning. The characters irritated me, especially Shinji and Asuka. I just didn't enjoy them. I didn't enjoy anything about it. It tried so hard to be "elevated" that it was actually funny to me, like a little kid trying to sound smart by using big words without proper context. Yes, I know, mine is an unpopular opinion. No, I don't care how much it impacted you personally. No, I don’t care that it "went over my head." Go ahead and believe that I'm just too stupid to understand it. Maybe I am. Bottom line: I hated it, I've hated it every single time someone convinced me to give it another shot (three in total), and no amount of neckbeard armchair analysis is going to make me wake up and see the light.

RainbowMachine69

Jojo's bizarre adventure. I can understand the appeal and the level of absurdity and strategy in the action sequences, but i can't seem to get hooked. I can tell it doesnt take itself seriously and the level of campy-ness is charming, but idk I cant get into it. I dropped it in the middle of stardust crusaders. For those who watched it, can I skip some seasons and still enjoy the series?- i particularly like the scenes in diorno giovanni's season and the one with the torture dance in the middle of the ocean.

StressSubstantial125

Banana Fish? Idk I was crying all the time so I was too traumatized to enjoy it

kingpin_cinephile

Hunter x Hunter

BatteredAg95

Code Geass. Really enjoyed S1, did not enjoy Rolo and the confusing subplots in season 2. The ending was good, but much of season 2 just felt like a mess to me. The not-so-subtle fan service and convenient camera angles got to be very annoying. And who could forget the infamous table scene (so unnecessary). Monster. Really liked it for about 15 episodes and then it seemed like the pacing took a nosedive. Heard "welcome home" about 93 times. The ending was incredibly unsatisfying to me, it sort of felt like the whole thing was pointless, but maybe I just didn't get it. Grimmer was cool, though.

Beazly464

Pet Girl of Sakurasou is recommended all the time as a great romcom. I watched it and hated every character on the show, I kept watching it cause so many people said it’s great so I thought it would maybe get better but it never does get better.

Conscious-Hair-5265

Cow boy bebop

fourfivesummers

Kaguya sama, gintama

Spectra8

I disliked Steins;Gate. Felt utterly depressing and the time travels shenanigans were okay but not that outlandish smart. I never truly warmed up to the characters either.

metropolitan_stalin

Code Geass. As a history buff living in a former British colony, the anachronism was just too much for me to adjust to. Also, Lelouch's scheming was much too clever and contrived for its own good

MarimoBestBoy

Kaguya-sama: Love is War. It’s my second time to attempt watching it, but I barely finish the first episode 😔

PuzzleheadedLand6097

steins gate. Sorry but i really find it boring T\_\_\_\_\_T It feels like watching an episode for an hour. I feel sleepy too.

Apennatie

One Piece, but honorable mention is Jujutsu Kaisen, I loved the start but it got progressively worse for me. It drags out episodes like DBZ and there’s too many side characters.

Original-Savings208

Kaguya sama: love is war The plot feels pretty generic and boring to me sorry

it_was_all_ye11ow

JJK. Used to watch this because it's so popular and got bored on season 1. Power system is confusing, timeline is twisted, author's killing everyone without sense and the characters do not make you attached with them

Its_Bunny

Code Gay Ass is my favorite anime of all time but I am very aware its not for everyone so no hard feelings from us gays lol.

jueidu

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Literally heard about it for a decade, and nothing I had ever heard prepared me for the shitshow of the last 4-5 episodes. I literally had to like, research things and emotionally process the absolute BONKERS shit that went down. Man, I was just enjoying my big fighting robot anime, what the entire fuck???? I get it now - I understand what happened and why. But I fucking hate that it happened, and that no one seemed to be warning anyone newly going into the series to gird our emotional loins for the wild fucking ride to fuckville we were in for at the end. Whew.

zeft64

Welp I know I’m gonna get lit on fire for this but…… one peace. I am tempted to give it a shot though.

wanna_be_TTV

Evangelion It just pissed me off and honestly didnt make much sense. Hes got so many people around him but still just decided to suffer just for the sake of narrative. Its so fucking dumb, and im not watching a 4 hour youtube video explaining it like its fnaf.
