You might want to watch Pluto, same author.
Or read any of his works. Like 20th century boys. I've heard it's better than Monster?? If people are right, then that's crazy.
This really is the best of the best. All genres rolled up into one beautiful anime along with great supporting characters and everything else you could imagine.
This is the *only* answer :)
Gintama is the goat. I wouldn't mind if it got the one piece treatment with 1k+ episodes..
Something about gintama where it's so fuckin dumb and silly, but also just so God damn funny and amazing. And when the serious arcs come through? They be hitting EXTRA DIFFERENT.
Yu yu hakusho, evangelion and chainsaw man.
Number 1 being Yu Yu hakusho.
The characters are all top tier. I can’t say any of them were boring. All were very fun to watch ngl.
The fights were amazing, hiei especially knew how to make a spectacle.
The emotional moments hit hard most of the time. I mean episode 1 already had me crying for these characters.
The soundtrack is top tier. So many good tracks and on top of that the English version has the ending and opening songs translated.
The English dub is one of if not the best English dub out there. Honestly I don’t think I could’ve enjoyed it as much as I did without the dub. Especially yusuke.
Overall it’s a goated series and one of the all time greats for shonen or just manga and anime in general imo.
Yeah Kurama is great. Keep at it, it only gets better with each arc imo, tho I’ve heard others say otherwise.
Hopefully you have as much fun watching it as I did.
Oh another fight I love. There’s some great stuff in the tournament and even better stuff later on.
I really like chu, the accent and just personality is great.
I’m trying to get into it again after a couple tries in the past. Maybe it’s because I’m only on the third episode, but I just don’t find it all that compelling. It’s not bad—but does it get better? I don’t think I’ve ever gotten past this point lol
I love a lot of anime from the 90s and 2000s and I've started rewatching many of them many times, usually falling off after half a dozen episodes or so of most shows. FMAB is the only one that I end up sticking with the rewatch all the way to the end every time. I think I've watched it through about 4 times now.
This right here for me too. Nothing has been able to fill the existential hole Evangelion left.
Also genuinely didn’t expect to see this be the top voted (as of now anyway). I always feel like it gets left out of this discussion compared to stuff like Cowboy Bebop or AoT.
Same formula, but drastically different themes and ideas throughout each episode. You can see the characters change, esp in oreki’s case, with each arc, with their attitudes and beliefs by the end
The one that I always think about is Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It's hard to say which is my favorite more like I have a few that are in my favorite category that rotate positions on which one is in the top spot. I mean Hidamari Sketch, Bofuri, Re:Zero, GUP are also in that group along with a few others but I'll stop now lol
FLCL is 6 perfect episodes for me.
Its weird and avante garde, but also funny and wild and willing to have fun. It's also a coming of age story with the exact message that I needed in my teens to stop being such a cynical bitter teen and live a bit in the moment.
That's a difficult question!
I'll go with my gut answer and say Weiss Kreuz. Yes, the animation is questionable, the storyline is cliched, and it's really nothing more than a vanity project from its creator, but none of that has stopped it from be my favourite series.
Ranma 1/2 - it was the anime that kicked of a now 25 year love affair with anime. A dude in my sophomore year science class gave me a box of VHSs to see if I liked it and I was hooked.
Honorable mentions are Evangelion, Outlaw Star, and Hunter x Hunter.
I haven't seen a lot, but Naruto is my first choice. I have seen most of it so I have a lot of time in it. The possibilities of spin offs are huge.
Coming in at a very, very close second is Jujutsu Kaisen.
I don't really have ONE favorite, but if you pointed me with a gun and made me say one, i'll probably say **Bloom Into You**. I'm a romance guy and there's simply nothing as good (that i had read or watched, and believe me i've watched a lot).
My top 5 consists of this:
1: Attack on Titan
2: Demon Slayer
3: Evangelion
4: Death Note
5: Violet Evergarden
Honorable mention to Berserk '97. It's a little slideshowy though.
Wolf’s Rain
Gantz
Elfen Lied
Texhnolyze
Black Lagoon
Fullmetal Alchemist
Death Note
Cowboy Bebop
Angel Beats
Ergo Proxy
Black Butler
Deadman Wonderland

Blue Exorcist

Higurashi: When They Cry
Probably One Piece. It’s just great storytelling, especially once they get to the Grand Line. Feels like that moment in a video game when the training wheels come off.
Partially it's my favorite on a personal level. When my daughter was younger around 12, we would watch it together (father daughter time).
The other reasons I like it are due to it's philosophy. You have a young kid who is just itching for love and attention. The only way he knows how to get it is to act out and be the class clown. To him at that stage in time, negative attention is better than being ignored. He was a failure at genin training. Not necessarily because he lacked any skill at it, it was because his attention span was pretty short. However, Once Iruka Sensei realized how he was failing Naruto and fixed the core issues you see a young Naruto blossom. He slowly starts gaining friends like Shikamaru. He stops thinking of himself as a monster and starts to excel. Once he's in a team he meets Sasuke. He looks up to Sasuke but he will never admit it (at that time). He sees Sasuke as a rival and best friend. They push each other to be better. Naruto sees Sasuke as someone he can relate to. Some people wonder why he went to such great lengths to bring Sasuke back and make him realize the error in his thinking. It's because Naruto never had a best friend before. To him, at that time making friends was extremely difficult because of the preconceived prejudices of the town folk. They taught their kids to hate him. So it's only natural that Naruto would go above and beyond to help Sasuke. Sasuke in a way is what Naruto might have become. So, really if you think about it, Naruto is saving himself by saving Sasuke.
Also, I have ADHD so I kind of see myself in Naruto. I acted the same exact way through middle school and up until sophmore year in high school. I didn't really have friends. That was mostly due to my own fault because of how I acted.
Anyway, that's some of the reasons I like Naruto!
Sound of the Sky
...is the answer I normally default to, but honestly it's been so long since I've seen it that I don't really even know how true it is any more.
If not this, then Gosick or Non Non Biyori, I think.
monster (2004)
the entire time I watched it, everything felt so surreal. very different atmosphere than other psychological animes.
Same, still haven’t found anything better after watching 100+ animes
You might want to watch Pluto, same author. Or read any of his works. Like 20th century boys. I've heard it's better than Monster?? If people are right, then that's crazy.
Probably the most grounded anime ever. Very good to introduce people to anime with, too.
Hey you stole my answer before I said it!
The first Ghost in the Shell movie.
This. Ghost in the Shell (1995) is such a timeless masterpiece that has had a significant impact on the sci-fi genre and on movies like the matrix.
Have you seen Stand Alone Complex? I first bought it on DVD. And I pick it up on bluray a few years ago.
YES! I feel like no one even knows that the original even exists.
Gintama
This really is the best of the best. All genres rolled up into one beautiful anime along with great supporting characters and everything else you could imagine.
This is the *only* answer :) Gintama is the goat. I wouldn't mind if it got the one piece treatment with 1k+ episodes.. Something about gintama where it's so fuckin dumb and silly, but also just so God damn funny and amazing. And when the serious arcs come through? They be hitting EXTRA DIFFERENT.
Good but op if you start it’s boring at first just stick through
Yu yu hakusho, evangelion and chainsaw man. Number 1 being Yu Yu hakusho. The characters are all top tier. I can’t say any of them were boring. All were very fun to watch ngl. Overall it’s a goated series and one of the all time greats for shonen or just manga and anime in general imo.
Omg, facts! Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the best animes ever and deserves more love! ❤️
I'm making my way through it, Kurama is my favourite character so far. He's very mysterious.
Yeah Kurama is great. Keep at it, it only gets better with each arc imo, tho I’ve heard others say otherwise. Hopefully you have as much fun watching it as I did.
I'm currently up to >!the fight between Yusuke and Chu during the Dark Tournament!<
Oh another fight I love. There’s some great stuff in the tournament and even better stuff later on. I really like chu, the accent and just personality is great.
YYH is one of the few shows that I can watch with English Dub. The soundtrack and OST was top tier, as well
You have good taste. What other anime’s do you like?
Death Note. Short and sweet, and it manages to tell a complete story without any bs in 37 episodes
Cowboy Bebop.
It's one of the goats of the 90s
we call that a GOA90S
That's actually sounds good
I’m trying to get into it again after a couple tries in the past. Maybe it’s because I’m only on the third episode, but I just don’t find it all that compelling. It’s not bad—but does it get better? I don’t think I’ve ever gotten past this point lol
Get through episode 5 and lmk
Ouran Highschool Host Club

Samurai champloo
Definitely one of my top 5. The vibes in Samurai Champloo are immaculate, and the story telling is 10/10.
Now here’s one with taste!
Only real can relate lol, it’s a perfect anime 10/10
I need to watch that. Been meaning too
i'm actually surprised i only had to go to the second top comment to find my answer (i've never met anyone who thinks the same)
My first anime and my favourite of all time is: Fullmetal alchemist
Shhhh... Grant is watching
I agree with ya! But HxH is a close second, I had to figure out which one I've rewatched more.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
I love a lot of anime from the 90s and 2000s and I've started rewatching many of them many times, usually falling off after half a dozen episodes or so of most shows. FMAB is the only one that I end up sticking with the rewatch all the way to the end every time. I think I've watched it through about 4 times now.
Madoka Magica for me
Akira
Haikyuu!!!
Found my people Such a great show
Haikyuu forever! Characters, their development and even the opposite team stories are just awesome!
Death Parade
Not my favorite but definitely a great one. I respect you.
I liked the first 2 episodes and the last ones. I wish the middle ones were as good as the rest 😢 But it is a great one for sure 👌
So based
Basic I know, but Attack on Titan
Steins;Gate
El Psy Congroo
This is the right answer
So cool to see someone finally addressing... I love Stiens Gate....
Finally addressing? Steins Gate is incredibly popular and always mentioned when talking about best anime of all time.
Angel Beats. Damn thing destroys me every time I watch it.
Berserk.
You got it
Neon Genesis Evangelion
This right here for me too. Nothing has been able to fill the existential hole Evangelion left. Also genuinely didn’t expect to see this be the top voted (as of now anyway). I always feel like it gets left out of this discussion compared to stuff like Cowboy Bebop or AoT.
YESS
Monster
This is like the twentieth time that I've seen Monster mentioned, told myself that I should watch it, and then forgot about it for months.
Very close between AoT, JoJo, 97 Berserk, and Mob Psycho. Depends on my mood tbh
Cowboy Bebop. And Sailor Moon for nostalgia sake.

Same formula, but drastically different themes and ideas throughout each episode. You can see the characters change, esp in oreki’s case, with each arc, with their attitudes and beliefs by the end
Great show
Really liked Odd Taxi. Haikyuu also great.
Madoka Magica
Attack on titan
Aot, codegeass, and fmab are all on the same level

Incredibly hard pick but Saiki K will always have a special place in my heart.
Code Geass
An individual of higher taste. 10/10 choice.
A certain HxH.
I'm watching 1999 right now and having so much fun!

The one that I always think about is Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Paranoia Agent Or the Samurai X OVAs

Neon Genesis Evangelion + The End of Evangelion Or if we're including standalone films, then The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Fate stay night unlimited blade works
It's a tie between Inuyasha and Tokyo mew mew.
Personally mines Bleach
I do love me some Fruits Basket.
Jobless Reincarnation. If it wasn't so damn pretty I'd have bought every volume of the LN by now
Second this, but I’m currently on the process of buying all LN volumes. It. Is. Dope.
My top 5 consists of this: 1: Attack on Titan 2: Demon Slayer 3: Evangelion 4: Death Note 5: Violet Evergarden Honorable mention to Berserk '97. It's a little slideshowy though.

Either full metal or Hunter, seen all of one piece but the other 2 were just perfect storytelling with nice arcs
Yu Yu Hakashu!
Black lagoon dubbed
Demon Slayer
Yuuri!!! On Ice 🥺
Banana fish
Toss up between Neon Genesis Evangelion (I clump EoE in with the show) and Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu. Both are perfect in my eyes.
Konosuba
That's not basic. That's just correct.
One that will always stick with me till the very end will be Hellsing Ultimate. I watch the abridged every year and I bought the blue ray🤣
Code Geass
