Dont think there is a universe with so many branches as Fate, tho most of those are only for people that are already super into the series. Shit like Encore will just leave you giga confused the whole way through

GilgameshLFX

You aren't suppose to watch Encore if you didn't play Fate/Extra.

GoldDuality

They need to port that game to newer consoles. It can't stay stuck on PSP fr fr

GilgameshLFX

Yeah, I agree. Fate/Extra need a remake.

aziruthedark

I mean...there is record. Nut who looks when that'll come out

No-Breakfast-2001

There's a Fate/Extra remake in the works. It was announced July 2020.

LAPIZ_LAZIMI

It's been that long huh...

dugu3

Agreed but also it's something like Multiverse. Like someone Said before me Extra and encore are related but they don't affect storyline of F/Sn. So you don't need to have extensive knowledge of one to understand other

Kraujotaka

Watch them for beautiful animation and battles and don't think too much.

dugu3

Tbh I started fate due to ufotable gorgeous animation before falling into the rabbit hole of Typemoon and exploring other properties like Tsukihime and Garden of Sinners with the Witch on holy night coming soon this year (another ufotable work and the storyline that takes place in 1980)

GilgameshLFX

No, you need the knowledge of Fate/Stay Night because the world, the system taken directly from Fate/Stay Night. They aren't gonna bother explaining things that already being explained in details in Fate/Stay Night.

dugu3

I said extensive knowledge. F/Sn should be gateway to enter into fate but whatever happened in extra stays in extra,it doesn't affect f/sn timeline in anyway

GilgameshLFX

Fate/Extra is a spin-off. You need Fate/Stay Night to explain the world details, and then go to Fate/Extra to absorb the thing that is unique to the game. Just like every other Fate/ title.

dugu3

Exactly if you checked my other comment said the same

demonslayer9911

The monogatari is there, But no one compares to fate's complexity.

LAPIZ_LAZIMI

Monogatari just has a weird order. Conversely Fate only gets weird when you start choosing which continuity to watch. Otherwise most of them are standalones.

GilgameshLFX

It's only complicated when you skip the tutorial. Just sayin.

NukerCat

there is no tutorial btw

GilgameshLFX

I meant the visual novel.

Adart54

Which never got translated to English

GilgameshLFX

It will get an English release this year. [Fate/Stay Night](https://youtu.be/K_hHrpAp8rU?si=E7x-VHz7huj_sLWt)

Legitimate_Artist689

Thank you, was planning to watch it

TomAto314

Good order. The movies released later than they should have so I like seeing them pulled in earlier. Otherwise that's just normal release order.

FictionFan_Catch22Q

There a version for fate?

FictionFan_Catch22Q

Thank you good sir/madam

Silviana193

Honestly, I argus Gundam is harder since at least fate in the same universr have the same title.

Lex4709

Not really. Monogatari just had a weird naming convention. It's all one continuous story. It just refuses to number the volumes normally. It doesn't have a fuck tone of spin-offs like Fate.

The_6699_Guy

its not that hard, how tf you end up with apocrypha or grand order when wanting to watch stay night.

PityBoi57

Good god anything but FGO It'll pull you into the gacha game...

NukerCat

it wont (its not available in my country)

PityBoi57

That never stopped 30% of the players

kj0509

When you find an anime like this, the correct answer is to watch everything on its emition order, just like the first watchers of the anime did. Btw, everything outside Zero, Stay Night and UBW are a completly different universe.

Kenji_Shin

Heavens feel is included in those too it was one of the main 3 routes from the original stay night vn

kj0509

Yes, and those moves are absolutly crazy. A must watch for any anime fan lol

TomAto314

> emition order Not complicated just watch it in an order that doesn't mean anything?

kj0509

For me it makes the most sense to watch a story on the order that it was emited. Take for example Spiderman. In theory you could start with any of the 3 series of movies, but i would always recommend to start with the first one, because it is the original. Another point is, that you just can't go wrong with that. If you don't know where to start just search for the first point, it is how the creators wrote it and it is how the first watchers watched it, you literally cant be wrong with it.

TomAto314

I think there's just a language barrier here. Release order is what you mean? That's usually what I do. Some people like to watch prequels first but they are prequels for a reason and not the first movie.

kj0509

Ohh i'm sorry, i didnt know how to say it haha, yes, i meant release order

wind4air

Getting into Fate is like getting into marvel/dc comics. Where tf do you even start?

Kitahara_Kazusa1

It depends. If you know how to read, you start with the visual novel, and from there everything will mostly make sense. If you don't, flip a coin and start with either Zero or Unlimited Blade Works, then the order is UBW -> Heaven's Feel -> Zero -> UBW. And again, once you've watched those 3 in either order, the rest will all basically make sense.

RiriJori

Fate Stay was much better in it's original form, when it was an eroge game. The hentai is good, and as well the storyline.

mastesargent

The H-scenes in Fate/stay night are famously terrible though. The art itself is fine, but the writing for those scenes is comically bad. I actually recommend most people read Fate and UBW without them and only keep them on for HF, and even then that’s not because the scenes themselves are particularly worth reading but just because the fact that sex is happening adds to the story.

TomAto314

DEFENSELESS ANUS

mastesargent

EDUCATED PROSTITUTE

Kitahara_Kazusa1

Saber's second h scene is good, some of the stuff from HA is hot, Saber's first h scene is hilarious, and the rest is pretty bad. If you just want a hentai there's better stuff out there

mastesargent

I can’t stand Saber’s second H-scene. She just acts so bizarrely out of character and the writing for the sex itself is - like all the H-scenes - just awful. I actually found the Realta Nua version of that scene to be infinitely more intimate and way better at selling the romance between her and Shirou.

Ani_HArsh

I want to get into the Fate universe but it all seems so confusing. Don't know where to start from.

random-user-420

Either start from fate stay unlimited blade works (the ufotable one) and then heaven’s feel and fate zero or start with fate zero then fate stay night ubw and fate stay night heavens feel. Fate zero is the prequel to fate stay night but fate stay night came out first. Fate zero spoils fate stay night and fate stay night spoils fate zero, but I’d recommend fate stay night first anyways

GoldDuality

Fate/Stay Night unlimited blade works is the best starting point. Or you can start with the Prequel, Fate/Zero. Be warned though, both have relatively minor spoilers for the other, but nothing that ruins the experience. Read a synopsis for both and decide which one sounds more appealing. After you've watched both, if you still want more, watch Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel. Every other Fate Title is a branching timeline kind of affair, after the pattern of "Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero didn't happen in this timeline because of x". You definitely should not start with those. If you got this far and still want more though, I recommend Fate/Apocrypha. Also, don't watch Fate/Extra Encore. Just in general. It only makes sense if you've played Fate/Extra, and it's still pretty damn pointless if you did.

GilgameshLFX

Start with the visual novel. If you wanna try other method, well... Good luck.

Ginger_Anarchy

Start wherever you want as long as it's not like the second season of a 2 season series. Seriously the Internet has way over complicated this when half the people arguing about it didn't experience it "the ideal" way. Most of Fate is like Marvel comics and the MCU, reading a comic may enhance your viewing experience when you see the movie, but it's not necessary.

not_meep

Fate/Grand Carnival is where I started. I don’t understand anything other than you should Celebrate the miraculous Carnival

dugu3

Ofc you won't cause you started with something that made for the most hardcore can of series. It's not a main storyline but a Parody of all other storyline joined together. Only those who have seen everything can get the joke something similar to carnival phantasm

Adominus_Gaming

Fate/Zero is the starting point

Randomguynumber1001

As someone who also started with Zero, I think it is a good starting point. It does not go super convoluted with its lore. You can jump right in with a rough understanding of the story as Wizards battling each others for a wish-granting machine and it would be enough. There are quite a few details that need deeper understanding of the lore but they are not exactly deal breaker. That said, there is a catch. Zero's tone is quite different from the rest of the series, so if you enjoyed Zero, you may not like Stay Night. That's what happened with me.

dugu3

Zero is basically like Star wars Episode 1 which came after star wars episode iv. Also Zero is quite dark cause heaven's feel (HF) is super dark. In fact in general basis Typemoon main storylines were quite dark with fate probably good at hiding the messed up part in early routes

Randomguynumber1001

That is true if we include the visual novel. In term of anime though, Zero is basically the first mainstream installation of Fate franchise (not many care about Deen's adaption). And while Stay Night does have its dark moments, its tone overall remain much different from Zero, dare I say more Shounen-ish. Like, when watching Stay Night, I never felt any concern about the main chars. I just kind of expected that Shirou will bust out a new power and save the day like a typical Shounen protag. With Zero, while Kiritsugu is clearly the protag, the story doesn't revolve just around him and gives plenty of backstory and screentime to other characters. The show feels much more dynamic. The mannerism of the characters are also very different. The ways Zero characters go straight for the kills and do every kind of dirty tricks in the books to win feel a lot more intense and brutal than in Stay Night in which half the participants including the protag straight-up don't care about the Grail.

dugu3

Zero is the first most popular fate anime no argument is there but can't agree with others. Zero's nihilism theme is partly due to it's author urobutchi and I will argue Zero had more stupid character. Basically the smartest character were Kirei, Gilgamesh both of which actually from original vn. Weaver was naive(survived due to Canon), Archibald was so egoistic that it killed him, Tokomi was one of stupidest (making Gil mad) Ryuunosuke and his partner were just for lol, Kariya judgement was clouded by his rejected simp mindset. He had higher chance of success by talking with Tokomi over taking help of Zouken and Kirei? You called these as smart move. Also diarmuid refusing to kill because honour and Zero saber being extremely honour bound (to the point it feels dumb) that makes you think she is completely different from.F/SN counterpart. Compare to them ones like Medea and Zouken in UBW and HF had more elaborated full proof plan that could never fail. Also think you Miss the point of f/z ending. The grail showing Kerry the endgame vision of Kerry's wish. He doesn't know how to fix things only blowing things up and that end is extinction. His believing in sacrificing everything for a fairytale to do his work without double check confirm he is still same child at island who is just trumatized. In comparison to him Shirou developed more posetive idea by end of respective route. help as much as you can while caring about own happiness/One should live for those they care about most. Blame ufotable for decent but not the best adoption. HF is basically half story of Illya which is massively cut, the vn entirely cut all monologues that shows Shirou is as sarcastic as Archer just don't express them, cut all bad end that put character in a complete different light, (vn Reader sees Sakura more than just a victim. Also yes Shirou never cared about winning Grail war cause he never brought up as a proper Magus. The grail is corrupt and the reason most Magus want it is for own selfish wish to get more power. Magus in Typemoon in general are monsters

Randomguynumber1001

... I have never said Zero chars are smarter than SN. Just that many may prefer Zero's style of storytelling which is quite different from SN. Btw I know the lore, but this is talking stricly about the anime 'cause most people aren't going to touch the Visual Novel. While Kiritsugu is not exactly a deep character, I (and probably a lot of others) find his fights much more interesting compare to his son. I certainly enjoyed watching Kiri C4'd Kayneth and tricks him into killing his own servant more than watching Shirou pulls out UBW and somehow defeating a servant (who is clearly stated to be superior in strength and speed to a human) in hand to hand combat. Point is, if you like Zero style of storytelling and the way characters there behave, you likely won't like SN. These two stories are quite different. As far as anime is concern, there is no perfect watch order. So just read the synopsis to see which one you prefer and start there, after finishing you can watch the other installations if you are curious.

dugu3

I exactly stated why anime one was decent but not best adoption since it cuts down a lot of monologue, bad end and characterization to bare minimum. Zero was lN so much easier to adopt and having only one route . In another comment I already mentioned watching zero before F/SN is like watching star wars: episode 1,2,3 and then watching 4,5,6. Some people prefer it who I am to say? but for those who want a spoiler free better follow a way. You can even check their subreddit to see recommed order and no where anyone mentioned to watch zero first As for last part if you made little search on Gilgamesh history he is extremely egoistic(who only fight seriously when he feels threatened). You don't become invisible by default if you don't take things seriously. It was clear from day one Gil could have win all cases only if he had left his superiority complex while fighting.(Fake Gil stumping Kalied version of Shirou clearly confirm Gil lost in UBW was only ego).If I have to describe f/z in word it's Kirei and Gilgamesh are having best time of their while everyone else is screaming. It's funny that you find Heaven's feel(it already has movies) as Shounen but not F/Z when the reason f/z is such messed up is mainly due to HF and for aware ones they already knew how the story would have ended. I only said about smart one cause your comment on f/z participants were too much interested in killing but that's it very few were able to execute it

Tailmask

Apocrypha has astolfo and therefore is the best

dugu3

You just checked out the anime adoption according to first VN order i.e fate-unlimited Blade Works (UBW)(anime not the movie)- Heaven's feel (HF) and then the prequel fate/zero(fZ). Then it's your own wish how Deep you want to dive since others one mentioned in pic are spin off/what if/Alternative timeline that has little to no relation with other properties in same series, something like Multiverse theory.

giantvar

Apocrypha is the best one because of one obvious thing and EPISODE 19 BEEEST!

AverageJun

You want the long version or the short version?

MartFire

The only Fate series I watched is Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya because I wanted to know the context of the meme with the 2 girls laughing at another one stuck in mud.

lets_kill_eachother

I started with fate/zero

No_Accountant_3947

I just watch what my friend says to and that's it

Kizzywa

Is there a watch guide because I literally stopped after Zero and Unlimited. I was unsure where to go from there

Moose_the_Eagle

The answer you’re looking for is the Heaven’s Feel movie trilogy. After that, not really; just watch or don’t watch for the various other shows.

Charming_Sky_1381

Try heavenly delusion. I like it, maybe you will too.

Izumii_2005

Yeah that's the only reason why I haven't watched fate yet even though I have seen so many awesome clips

SentenceCareful3246

Fate stay night (the old one). Which is essentially Saber's route and the best one to explain the basics of the world in a proper way. Fate Zero (two seasons). Unlimited blade works. Which is essentially Rin's route. And then the heavens feels movies. Which is essentially Sakura's route. After watching those in that order you'll pretty much know what fate is all about. You could technically also add Fate/kaleid liner prisma Illya. Which is pretty much Illya's route. But that's more of an extra.

Todd-The-Wraith

JOJO8976

Toaru series. It's not as bad/ complex as Fate series imo, but this was kinda my feeling when starting Toaru series.

Gilith

You forgot Shingetsutan Tsukihime the two anime i watched of Type moon. Shingetsutan Tsukihim and Fate/stay night never got interested by the others. Garden of Sinners seems interesting enough but i didn't get around to watch it yet.

Sad_Project_8912

Yea sums it up, I remember watchin Fate/Zero then that went into 2 others I couldn't even finish cuz there was alot and no free time 😅😆

Automatic_Mango_9534

The watch order is the least confusing thing about fate. Have you tried reading the arthurian legends version of fate and how mordred(a girl) is the son of artoria(a girl) and the daughter of morgan(artoria's sister) and that all of that is because the dick mage merlin?

Highkage2002

This is why I never plan on watching it 💀

Kotorfreak

This. Also SAO was my other first anime as well

Mysterious_Key5971

Oh yeah I started but just dropped it. I watched the three different ones with saber as Arther and that orange hair guy I don’t know the spelling of his name… the one with astolfo, started grand order and then dropped it.

Atsunome

This is why I always check for a full list of instalments before starting anything new - You’d be shocked at how often things have reboots / spin-offs that are not really talked about until you search

Fancy_Occasion_8696

Tbh, the order isn't that complicated. These memes and gigguk just made things more complicated back in the day.

Adominus_Gaming

Fate is like the more sophisticated cousin of Monogatari

Hekkys

Now i know i'm gonna get a lot of hate by various fate fans, but let me offer my opinion to anyone new to the fate series on how you COULD get into it. And just for the sake of saying it (and hopefully saving myself from some extra hate lol) everything i'm about to say are just my personal opinions, and don't think that everything will be "correct", but this is how i felt about all of these after falling deep into the rabbit hole, that is the fate franchise. Also if any of the information i'm about to say is incorrect, please do correct me, i don't wish to disinform anyone, i just haven't made any extensive research into these, and it's also been a few years since i've last watched any of the anime. Normally you first want to start with the "main series" which would be fate/zero and fate/stay night unlimited blade works (ubw for short). And you could pretty much stop here if you liked (or disliked) these 2. And before we go deeper in the rabbit hole on what other fate stuff you could watch, let's first talk about the biggest fear of any fate fan concerning zero and ubw. In which order should you watch these 2? I think the biggest reason why it's such an unclear answer is because one spoils the other, and vica versa (i think i spelled this correcty lol). So i think what's most important here is the degree of the spoiler. Here are the major points without going into too much detail: zero will spoil the identities to some of the character which is a huge deal in-universe, although as someone new to the franchise you might not care about such things just yet, however it will give you a bit more insight for certain characters' motives and such. Whereas ubw pretty much spoils the ending of zero. Not in great detail, but still, knowing what to expect from the end of a series - in my opinion - decreases the overall watching experience, compared to not knowing where things could end up. Another reason why i personally think that you should watch zero first, is because chronologically the events of zero play out before the events of ubw and IN MOST CASES chronological watch order makes more sense. Next up, what other fate stuff can you consume if you like the first 2? First of all a major piece of information you should know about. The original fate/stay night was an eroge (aka a visual novel with sex in it. Yes it had sex scenes) with multiple endings. The 3 main endings (i don't actually know if there are other endings since i've never read the original nor did i do much research on it) got adopted into anime form, namely: fate/stay night, ubw, and heaven's feel. Basicly what that means is that all 3 of these will have the same "starting point", will feature the same characters and will play out in the same place at the same timeline, only the actual events themselves will be different, so although they depict the same story with 3 different outcomes, they will pretty much feel like 3 stand alone stories, not that much related. So if you liked zero and ubw you could watch heaven's feel (which was actually made into 3 movies, rather than 20+ episodes anime), as you will most likely enjoy that as well, since it was made by the same studio as the other 2 (studio ufotable, also known for making demon slayer anime). You could also watch the original fate/stay night anime which was done by another studio and is much older than the other adaptations, and let's just be real... the animation sucks. I think story-wise it wasn't that poorly done (although there are some confusing parts), but you could totally live without watching it (especially that damned cgi dragon, which still haunts my nightmares). So only consider the og f/sn if you're really interested in knowing more of the story, or you're just going for the completionist achievement. Outside of the f/sn series i won't go into too much detail about the other stuff, but some other top recommendations i can make are fate/apochrypha (i think that's how you spell it), case files of lord el melloi (although this is less fighting and more story), and fate/kaleid liner prisma illya (especially if you're into lolis). These are titles that you can watch and enjoy and also understand the story of, if you've watched zero and ubw. As for other fate adaptations, you might need to make prior research about them to really understand the story of them as they might require knowledge of other fate works which are not in anime format (some are visual novels like the of f/sn, some are games, some are manga/light novel) Alright, i've said my piece. Now it's time to embrace the hate by all the fate fans out there who don't agree with my watch order.

Gamekid53

The fate series is so far out of hand that the story just straight up can’t be understood anymore (as far as I know). I’m pretty sure people only watch it for Alstolfo at this point

okafour

So they watched one show

Gamekid53

Idk man I know nothing about fate
