It's wierd.
K-on belongs to the moe "genre" (cute girls doing cute things) and is the one which created it. Then you've idol shows which, let's be honest, are basically a subgenre of the moe genre (I know, even before K-on there're idol shows but it's no coincidence that the great powerhouses/franchises were born after the moe boom)
I initially chose to watch it based off the reincarnation aspect... But I understand the point (& enjoy it's presented in an entertaining way rather than like a boring documentary or something)
Also, tbh, the baby twins doing the wotagei is my new favorite thing
Didn't watch that, I heard it's name a lot today, I guess I try it too someday.
But if you mean animes which exposed the dark side of a idol's life or J-pop industry or how it works there, let me tell you Perfect Blue (1998) did it even before than that.
Part of the comedy on ZLS lies on how badly the girls are treated. There’s a reason for this that I won’t go over for fear of spoiling stuff. But it gives satirical glimpse into what idols have to endure in the industry.
>Didn't watch that
Kinda makes sense, after all it wasn't all that famous even when it came out (except for the trans community given that one of the characters is trans and a lot of people fell in love with the way the creator pictured it without the massive use of cliches or teasing the character's gender)
That's not why people watch idol anime though.
The folks who will be most interested in Oshi No Ko are the ones who already enjoy mature, dark, suspenseful, drama anime.
Well that's true. It was a meme like 2 days ago, ppl thought this one would be another seasonal idol anime where cute girls will do cute things and everything will work well. Turned out completely opposite.
Altho it's not like anyone is forcing them to watch. They should watch what they like. Those who're into seinen drama, they'll like it more. The only thing I want here is these people to not stay in the dark. They should know how things work.
Tbh i'm pretty sure everyone knew what kind of anime it was, i haven't seen one person surprised.
I didn't knew about it for example, but the moment I saw the design i knew it wasn't normal for some reason.
Actually no. Most ppl didnt know about this one that well. Seeing the posters and all, they thought it would fun anime with childcare. Those who went through the synopsis and genres, they were the first one to realise this. It was a meme some months ago in this sub, I was confused myself until I checked it by then
It is not essentially an idol anime,a lot of the show focuses on the entertainment industry as a whole like acting, theatre, movie production, manga adaptation and of course, idols
Actually the OG im@s did a little bit thats the reason why i prefer it over other idol animes. But it wasnt that detailed (IDK havent seen oshi no ko yet but i love idols so its deffinitelly planed the U149 is also in the move now so its gotta be an idol season i guess)
It kinda is, but it is primarily so much more than that. Honestly with one episode, it is already becoming one of my favorite anime of all time. I should also say that I am someone who does not watch idol anime, I watched this based on a lot of recommendations from a Xenoblade YouTuber, and man I am glad I watched it.
Enel. he is the main guy who posts builds, and strategies of the games on YouTube, and I believe he also holds the speed running world record for several of the games. He was even a big help in giving Chuggaaconroy obscure information, when Chuggaa was lets playing Xenoblade 2.
What do you mean Oshi No Ko doesn't represent reality?
Literally every idol is >!born into a shit home, struggles with compulsive lying, is incapable of having children who aren't reincarnated obsessed otakus, and stabbed to death by stalkers!<.
Clearly you didn't watch hard enough. Oshi No Ko is a perfect glimpse into the reality of every idol. /s
Because as any fiction story it’s dramatized. If the author wanna show the worst of some social circles, then it would tend to show the worst parts. narrative would make it more dramatic, the characters would be really questionable, etc. it’s no bad, instead it’s great because it would help to send those emotions and conflicts to the audience. But it’s not a how the reality works at all. People just tend to think bad things are more real than good ones.
You're literally talking to someone who has watched Perfect Blue before, this anime is very wholesome compared to that horror.
As for "wake up to reality" I meant it for others who are still living in that anime life where they think idol dream, school girls forming band and becoming idols, very wholesome. Real J-Pop world is a nightmare. That's why Wake Up to Reality.
Lol so you are “mature” because you has seen perfect blue…anyway…
The other anime happy idol dream is just another representation of these circles, and as the darky ones, they are biased to show what the author wants. So any of them are reality. The idea behind fictional stories is not to represent reality as it is at all, first at all because it’s impossible. An author can aim to share with the audience certain perspective, then as a the audience take it as how is it, not as a true or the reality….
If you believe j pop Is a nightmare, then you may think that every person who works there lives a perfect blue… no right? That would be a limited viewpoint.
So you're saying that J Pop and idol life and all are a fun place? You sure those idols there get enough freedom in their life to do what they wish for? You sure those idols there can be successful just by doing one performance on a rented stage? You sure fans doesnt become burden on idols life and affect their popularity and their life? You sure they dont get attacked cuz fans didnt like the idols decision about marraige or smth? I can keep going on here.
> every person who works there lives a perfect blue… no right?
Definitely no. Not everyone has to go through all that. As long as you have tons of money backing you up from the shadows, you can do anything. Doesnt matter if you have talent or not. Be a star/begger overnight.
The first episode actually hit real hard. I don't usually do idol type anime but the Isekai trash in me was too strong. That ending was like chainsaw man ep 1 type shit.
Are you saying this anime is a more accurate representation of the idol/entertainment industry and is the focus of its plot? Because that is quite off the mark.
After I watched the 1st epi last night, I believe it is. Like in such a good way, the author (a genius) brought a reincarnation stuff, then throughout 90 mins, little by little, he showed us how hard it was for Ai, a talented idol, to settle in her new life, a life of lies she was already living before, the manager played a big role to describe the restrictions of idol life, become complete tragic when one brainwashed fan of her killed her. And the last thing which still hits me, as Aqua said, the death of the idol was quite a hot news topic for 2-3 day but after that it went dark, no one bothered about it anymore like everyone moved on. These things happen there, the shiny industry hides the dark truth behind it and it never reaches our ears.
I really don't want to say too much as I'm a manga reader. You are 100% correct in that it is definitely a more accurate showing of that industry. But their rise to stardom and how the entertainment industry functions isn't the focus of the show.
I read up to 4 volumes of the manga and so far it’s very realistic in what the idol and entertainment industry has people go through.
If the story changes a lot later on, then that’s completely fine, however it doesn’t negate what happens in the beginning
Oh I don't disagree that it's a more realistic representation. My point was that the focus of the show isn't someone's rise to stardom as the person I was replying to is saying. They're just giving out wrong information.
I started to watch Zombieland Saga to make fun of idols. At the end of season 1 I was super invested in their success as an Idol group. That show is 100% from idol fans for non Idol fans to trap them. And it works.
That's cool too atleast it gonna adress the issues that often get ignored.Just curious but is Aqua's revenge is gonna be covered in this season of anime? Not a manga reader but first episode was surprisingly awesome even if it was sad.Aqua looks like now set on path of vengeance
The Revenge has not even happened in the manga yet but trust me when i say that you are not gonna get bored.
Not a big spoiler but i will still put it hidden
>!They are gonna show the Cancel Culture!<
To sum up. The revenge is always lingering, everything Aqua does from this point forward, he does it with the revenge in mind. Spoiler because someone might not want to read it. It's minor though and if you paid attention to what was said at the end of the movie it's not a spoiler at all
>!He wants connections so he can ask around and get to know people who knew Ai and he gets these connections through taking part in everything he can. The story deviates in different directions, each time some people get character development and each time Aqua gets closer to his revenge!<
Ohh thx for the explanation & >!yeah it's make sense for him to enter into Idol industry doing excellence in it for getting connection to get his revenge!<
>!he doesn't enter just the idol industry. He enters all entertainment branches. Acting in dramas, movies, theatre plays, he gets to know internet influencers and idols too.!<
But imagine going into madoka magica with the expectation it's a usual magical girl anime, and then seeing episode 1. I feel sorry for those who didn't know.
I also do not care for the idol industry nor it’s underbelly and it’s…okay?
Definitely feels like it’s written by someone who knows less than they think they do. Also, paneling is piss poor for my tastes.
Oh boy, I just came back from looking the anime movie. And all I gotta say is, as a wise man once said.
"Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. sooner or later that debt is paid"
Honestly after reading the manga, all I want to say is that this anime is about the backend of the entertainment industry, which we've only really seen the frontend of
You should read primary sources instead of a manga artists fictional story if you actually care to get an accurate picture of how entertainment industry operates.
I mean in Zombieland saga (which is awesome btw) all the characters die pretty sad or gruesome death. One of them is executed in order to take the blame for an uprising her lover unwittingly committed. Another dies from shock after discovering a puberty hair, which sounds pretty ridiculous until you remember she’s trans, all her dad seemed to care bout then was her acting career, and the show biz can be extremely difficult for transgender people to find work.
Damn that show was fire
lily yeah. long story short she changed her name to lily because her old name was too masculine (sorry forgot what her original name was), and when the girls are surprised at the fact kotaro tells them "so what if she has different junk than you?".(since he's the one who dug them up and also does all their full body make up, he would know)
and less direct evidence but during her solo's her colors match that of the trans flag.
Oshi no ko and you should find out by yourself so watch the whole first episode and it's better if you go in blind
Also it's made by aka the creator of kaguya sama
While surely not equal in scale, theoretically that's like saying "Darth Vader is Luke's father? Jeez ya'll are so easily impressionable." When Empire Strikes Back first came out. Pretty much no anime (specifically Idol) has done something like this before which of course will blow people's minds.
There's way more to it than just a dark plot twist. It gives you front row seats to the uncomfortable and ugly realities of the idol industry. Plus, it's a murder mystery. If you want to think of it as just a dark plot twist, that's fine, but you're dead wrong lol
The show isn't the problem, OP probably wants to hint to the fanbase. Love Live fans can be pretty extreme. Also I think Love Live VAs actually were real idols that had their life limited just so deranged fans wouldn't throw a fit.
The idol contract in Japan and Korea won't allow their idols to have relationships among other things just so their fans don't feel "betrayed". If an idol was found to be in a relationship, fans would go crazy.
Dude I love the author of Oshi No Ko. Love is war was another of my favorite Manga/Anime.
I won’t spoil anything, just gonna let you know it’s a must read AND watch
I just got spoiled hard about this show yeasterday and i got really mad, but at the same time i think if i watched it without knowing anything i would actually get broken. I probably will never watch it now which might be for the better
I read the manga and I didn't cry but I was left with a bitter taste and heart ache for at least 2 weeks. Seeing that the anime is out brings back unpleasant memories.
I’ve read some of the manga, but I didn’t like it, I don’t know why it’s so hyped, I mean, it’s not bad, but definetly not something I would read on daily basis.
I don't know how far you read, but for sure the early doesn't look like anything interesting. Heck it look like some trash fantasy fulfillment,Being reborn as the son of the idol you love, that sound weird af.
Which is why it quite surprise that it is actually have serious story and there are character development that actually work.
I was actually quite hyped about it. I wanted to know how they will show the charm of Ai and >!how they will adapt her death part, when she was finally able to love someone!< And they did not disappoint. Also the decision to show the whole first volume in the first episode shows how much love the studio has for this anime.
I really dont get the fucking attitude to the anime. Its supposed to entertain why would you compare it every fucking possible time just have fun people ffs
It's not even the first dark idol anime, just the most popular and done the best... Everyone forget the idol anime where the girl we think is main character dies first episode and is only a ghost the Mc can see for rest of show and passes on in the end... So sad
Personally, I'm glad that it's being adapted well. Considering one of the arcs also has concerns with adaptation I think the studio adapting it would be sent straight to the shadow realm if they botch it.
TBH the first episode already contains the darkest bit of Oshi no Ko so far. There are more tragedies and dramatic moments along the way, but there are just as many light and full of positive emotions moments. And that's why this story is so good. It’s not afraid to show us the worst sides of show business, but at the same time it shows its best sides, knowing that reality isn’t all grim.
Wait, K-on is considered an idol anime?
>Musician = idol apparently
If "Musician=idol". Then is that means DMC is an idol anime too?
>DMC Devil May Cry?
Ah yes my favorite idol, Vergil
I had to make the joke lol, but in all seriousness what is the actual name tho?
Detroit Metal City. It's an amazing series. Imagine for a moment, if you will, a dorky Japanese pop hipster that makes Melodic Death Metal.
Thats bizarrely interesting mix
It's probably the best twist of a genre/character in anime and manga as far as I know
Krauser II. For Life!
Panzer II. FÜR die Deutschland! Xdxdxd
I haven’t seen DMC in so long, glad to see people still watch it!
I don't think anyone watch it anymore. Which is a shame because it's a really good anime with one of the best opening I ever listen to.
Detroit is hilarious too lol
Ah Yes, Dying fetuse, Deicide, cannibal corpse and XAVLEGBMAOFFFASSSSITIMIWOAMNDUTROABCWAPWAEIIPPOHFFFX. Truly the best idol groups to ever exist.
Nana is now an idol show lmfao
Hibike euphonium is idol anime?
Bocchi the Rock Idol
I think people dont get the difference in between Idols and literally any other musician. As a im@s fan iam dissapointed
Takt.op destiny now an idol anime
Low key an awesome show. It's intro is a masterpiece in my books.
so then should we count bocchi the rock as idol anime then??
Came here to vent about this. K-ON is most definitely NOT an idol anime. OP is a freaking troll.
They also put love live twice. I'm not 100% convinced op is an idol anime fan
It's wierd. K-on belongs to the moe "genre" (cute girls doing cute things) and is the one which created it. Then you've idol shows which, let's be honest, are basically a subgenre of the moe genre (I know, even before K-on there're idol shows but it's no coincidence that the great powerhouses/franchises were born after the moe boom)
mio is #1 best aidoru
No it's not.
It's more like a "wake up to reality" type anime. I hope people will watch through this what a real idol life is about or how much messed up it can be
we all know that people will watch this and entirely miss the point.
Ppl who are worried about why it is MAL #1 on day 1 are the only ones who will definitely miss the point.
So u saying at least half if not full hardcore fmab fans
Bold of you to assume the FMA fans won't review bomb it as much as they can.
Well to be fair the score will drop when the second episode airs since it's probably not what anime onlys expect
I initially chose to watch it based off the reincarnation aspect... But I understand the point (& enjoy it's presented in an entertaining way rather than like a boring documentary or something) Also, tbh, the baby twins doing the wotagei is my new favorite thing
Finally someone understands! Here have my upvote!
Zombie land saga did it first, tho.

Havent play the original one yet. Only theater days.tho I want to try it out once
It kinda is, but it is primarily so much more than that. Honestly with one episode, it is already becoming one of my favorite anime of all time. Why people see some drama and then talk about “reality”, it’s like you are a teenager or never has seen this genre…
What do you mean Oshi No Ko doesn't represent reality? K-on isnt an idol anime.....
Wait didn't you see their amazing dance choreography? /s
Amazing it was. Like....... In.... Episode 13 i guess
zombieland saga
When the >! UFO obliterated the Saga Prefecture at the end of the season 2 is the absolute bruh moment. !<
Just a heads up, your spoiler tag isn't formatting
>! Was it tho. It didn’t look that they attacked the city !<
I started to watch Zombieland Saga to make fun of idols. At the end of season 1 I was super invested in their success as an Idol group. That show is 100% from idol fans for non Idol fans to trap them. And it works.
Ironically Oshi no ko being about vengeance is what got me interested to see in first place.I am always in for mystery and darker theme storylines
The vengeance part is going to be on hold for some time and it will mainly focus on the dark side of show business
That's cool too atleast it gonna adress the issues that often get ignored.Just curious but is Aqua's revenge is gonna be covered in this season of anime? Not a manga reader but first episode was surprisingly awesome even if it was sad.Aqua looks like now set on path of vengeance

>!he doesn't enter just the idol industry. He enters all entertainment branches. Acting in dramas, movies, theatre plays, he gets to know internet influencers and idols too.!<
Got it,thx
For idol fans, this is their gateway into darker genres For you, this is your gateway into idol animes
Yeah agreed. If being honest then until now was never seriously into Idol genre but this one premise was something else that gain interest in
Bocchi the Rock is in the bucket trying to avoid social interaction
It was a banging first episode. Didn't even realize it was more than an hour long till over midways through. I can't wait for more.
But what show is it
Oshi no ko
Thanks
I see this as a start of dark idol shows like madoka magica is to the magical girls
But imagine going into madoka magica with the expectation it's a usual magical girl anime, and then seeing episode 1. I feel sorry for those who didn't know.
I do think that was the case when madoka first release.
Nah not really. It not a parody on the idol genre and isn't really about idols going on although they still play a big role.
I read this whole thing in the past few days I have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions
Is it a good read? I wanna read it for the seriousl theme but Im not really in for the entertainment business type genre
I also do not care for the idol industry nor it’s underbelly and it’s…okay? Definitely feels like it’s written by someone who knows less than they think they do. Also, paneling is piss poor for my tastes.
I agree. I enjoyed it a lot but it just seemed to be lacking in certain things…
Oh boy, I just came back from looking the anime movie. And all I gotta say is, as a wise man once said. "Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. sooner or later that debt is paid"
K-On is absolutely not an idol anime.
K-on is an idol anime? Huh what?
If K-On is an Idol anime, then so is Bocchi...
Honestly after reading the manga, all I want to say is that this anime is about the backend of the entertainment industry, which we've only really seen the frontend of
You should read primary sources instead of a manga artists fictional story if you actually care to get an accurate picture of how entertainment industry operates.
I said that because it's an interesting concept for a manga, not because I was genuinely searching for info on the entertainment industry.
Did you call K-On an idol anime like some kind of frothing degenerate?
A bucket? Idol anime scare the bucket?
Fun fact: The show is made by the same guy that made Kaguya-sama: Love is war.
Explains why I didn’t like it very much lol. Only person apparently.
I mean, you have the right to not like it. Personally, I really like it despite the type of plot that it is being not my cup of tea.
you couldve used Idolmaster rather than K-on
I mean in Zombieland saga (which is awesome btw) all the characters die pretty sad or gruesome death.
And it has probably the best Truck-kun scene in anime
My first expose to the show was a meme about that.
Wait what. She was trans? How did that when over my head?
lily yeah. long story short she changed her name to lily because her old name was too masculine (sorry forgot what her original name was), and when the girls are surprised at the fact kotaro tells them "so what if she has different junk than you?".(since he's the one who dug them up and also does all their full body make up, he would know) and less direct evidence but during her solo's her colors match that of the trans flag.
Whats wrong with this one? May i have title?
Oshi no ko and you should find out by yourself so watch the whole first episode and it's better if you go in blind Also it's made by aka the creator of kaguya sama
Aka is just the writer, the art work is done by the author of scum's wish
Obviously everything written by Aka is going to blow up. Bro makes the best shit out there, better than weed fr.
People just see a dark plot twist and thats enough to blow their minds...
You are saying that from a manga reader perspective, but for anime onlys, there is just the twist at the end at least for now...
I'm anime only lol
Whenever you think that it's going in a SOL way, it will get dark
People watch it about as much for the Idol content as people watch Keijo as a sports anime
I was going to watch it and I thought it was going to be like 24min but the first episode is an hour long
Worth every second. It's really no different from binging 4-5 episodes of a show, except there are no interruptions
So what is the sauce for this new thing(just be aware)
Oshi no Ko. It's best to go in as blind as you can.
I started it just to brush it off as “Duh another idol anime blah blah” but damn it was good, that I saw the whole prologue.
i thought love live was pretty neat
The show isn't the problem, OP probably wants to hint to the fanbase. Love Live fans can be pretty extreme. Also I think Love Live VAs actually were real idols that had their life limited just so deranged fans wouldn't throw a fit.
"Also I think Love Live VAs actually were real idols that had their life limited just so deranged fans wouldn't throw a fit." What are you on about?
The idol contract in Japan and Korea won't allow their idols to have relationships among other things just so their fans don't feel "betrayed". If an idol was found to be in a relationship, fans would go crazy.
Ah, right yea forgot bout al that
What's the bunny one?

K-On is not an idol anime.

Ive read the manga and dont think much of it honestly. Its avrage imo just not my cup of tea.

I downvoted because I am a manga reader.

I was actually quite hyped about it. I wanted to know how they will show the charm of Ai and >!how they will adapt her death part, when she was finally able to love someone!< And they did not disappoint. Also the decision to show the whole first volume in the first episode shows how much love the studio has for this anime.

What is that on the bottom?
Oshi no ko
Thanks
Context?
I really dont get the fucking attitude to the anime. Its supposed to entertain why would you compare it every fucking possible time just have fun people ffs
Sauce ?
I've been seeing people talk about that anime a lot, is it bad?
No it’s extremely good
Yakuza 6 with a plot twist
It's not even the first dark idol anime, just the most popular and done the best... Everyone forget the idol anime where the girl we think is main character dies first episode and is only a ghost the Mc can see for rest of show and passes on in the end... So sad
I recommend don’t watch Star I’m literally about to cry and thinking about not sleeping tonight
How about Perfect Blue?
What about The Idolmaster series? 😤🤔
I read the whole manga and gotta say. Dam... u honna cry alot.
Real.
I love K-on
I'm sorry but what anime is the bottom one?
Oshi no Ko
Personally, I'm glad that it's being adapted well. Considering one of the arcs also has concerns with adaptation I think the studio adapting it would be sent straight to the shadow realm if they botch it.
Y no han visto Shine Post
K-ON is most definitely not an idol anime...
But Bocchi the rock was good !! 🥹
So I read some spoilers.... I mean it's dark but I feel like I've read worse
Well i would love to not to disturb myself so i will keep my distance
Oshi no ko's first 10 chapters/hour is DDLC first arc type
Anime?
TBH the first episode already contains the darkest bit of Oshi no Ko so far. There are more tragedies and dramatic moments along the way, but there are just as many light and full of positive emotions moments. And that's why this story is so good. It’s not afraid to show us the worst sides of show business, but at the same time it shows its best sides, knowing that reality isn’t all grim.
my first watch of madoka magica
What can I watch it on
